the key idea is absolutely retarted

using the shiverpeak keys, its stupidly easy for a warrior to just buy like 20 keys use running skills to get to a chest open it and get rares worth like 50x original cost of the key, it makes money so easy to get if you have a good runner. The method is boring as well, so it basically crappified the entire game

I often marvel at people with the so-called good intentions to help out the community around here, by ranting and carrying on like a crack-addled madman or madwoman about an exploit
BY EXPLAINING IN EXPLICIT DETAIL HOW TO DO IT!
This thread is trash.

I have yet to get an item from a chest that was worth the cost of the key I used. I think Anet hopes you will do your little chest running farms - as soon enough you will see it for the gold sink it is.

lol retarted
Overall I see it kind in the same light as I did Gambling in Diablo 2. You pay a lot of money and get an item, it could be really bad (I got a Minor Soul Reaping rune once) or really good (got a gold max dmg. shortbow with great mods).
If you're rich, I say go for it. Why not, so you might lose a couple K at the worst. If you're poor though, I'd spend your money on other things.

This thread is trash. Would you prefer if the OP would've told you about the 'exploit' in a PM, so only you would have the benefit of knowing about it?

not exactly rocket science is it - run around shiverpeaks with keys and open chests. Is that an 'exploit'?
If it's boring why do it?

I'll grant you a response because most of your posts have substance rather than meaningless semantical bullshit:
No, I was merely saying that I am amused at people who post this crap, knowing full well (I am not certain that they don't think of this, but I wonder often) that people will SEE it, then do it. It could not possibly have any other purpose. People do come here to learn new ways to get around the game world, so the post itself IS an exploit ,Which will, in 3 days or less, result in more whining, bitching threads about 'runners suck' and 'farming is nerfed' and 'my parents owe me $2'. It goes on, ad infinitum.
Knowing about something so obviously being used more and more to have more uberness is not a benefit. So that makes no sense.
Point is, they could have just contacted anet with their concerns, or made the general statement that runners were frogging the areas. Not "a-b-c-d how to go about making this become a blight. Now it will.
As for the post immediately following yours, it has no basis in reality, so I have no reason to repeat myself.

I think the best time to use a key is if it has dropped for you - I wouldn't recommend buying them.
John Bloodstone
I have so far only got one item that beat the actual price I paid for the key, and that is out of 15 or so chests... the ratio seems to be roughly the same for my guild mates. Often in a party, we all have a key, and usually we get one good or semi-good weapon between the lot of us.
So feel free to blow a chunk of money on 20 keys; it's quite possible that you WILL get a nice weapon if you go to such lengths, but its equally likely that you'll end up with 20 pieces of crap.
If you buy 20 shiverpeak keys (I think they're priced at 650g) then you've paid 13K with no guarantee of getting anything worthwhile, and even if you do, it's going to have to have some near perfect mods on it to make your money back. Tbh I think the mechanic is balanced perfectly.
Possibly the only change ANet should consider (assuming the game doesn't do this already) is to nerf the chest drops if someone has opened more than X chests in one area in X amount of time.

I think the key idea is pretty nifty. Either you pay for or find it and it saves from having to farm and it gives another element of surprise and chance. But i agree w/ the person above it'll be more profitable to use the ones you find rather than buying them unless you have the money to do so.
Charcoal Ann
but chest runs were commonplace before the update. remember all those people in Port Sledge?
now you have to pay money to get into the chests. i have had 3 modless (yet still purple) items drop from these chests (req. about 12 and dmg is normal, does that suck balls?)

Hm, for various reasons (some might've read about this), contacting aNet, for me, has prooven itself to be utterly useless.
As far as I recall, aNet encourages people on their home-page or somewhere else on their support-page, to also post concerns and suggestions about game-play on forums.
That's what the OP has been doing.
The key-concept probably got introduced to make farming harder. Farming for keys is probably very time-consuming, because they don't drop easily (that's what I read).
I haven't bought a key yet, and I don't think I'll ever do, because as of now I have all the weapons my heart desires.
But those who like farming (as the OP) still make profit. Maybe not as much as before, but still, farming goes on.

Most of the time the price of keys vastly outweighs the value of the items you get.
sandstorm87
i never buy keys because i never get more than 250 gold for a item in the chest
i only use the keys that enemies drop,
and sometimes i even sell those because they give me 300 at the merchant or more from other players

I haven't found anything in a chest that was worth more than the key. Mostly I've found minor or major runes, and I've found a few weapons, most notably a gold max damage halfmoon bow of tenguslaying 17%. Sure it's max and gold, but who wants it? It's useless crap.

I think the title of this thread is retarted! lol... but really I like the key idea, but it does make farming now a lot more annoying.
Luckily my ranger has all the monk skills she needs to farm away when need be.
