Just wondering, is it possible to get out of pre-searing without getting a second proffesion? I would just like to stay as a pure ranger.. Is this possible?
Also if it is, would it be a bad choice to only have 1 prof?
Question About 2nd profession

I have no interest in taking on a second profession, is the game going to MAKE me, so I will have to sort through useless things when doing certain things, or do I have the option to decline totally a second profession?
Pre-Searing...am guessing that is when you leave the n00bie area right? Have read this term a few times now but not sure what it means.

There really is no tactical disadvantage to taking a second class, or a tactical advantage not to. You can just take a random second class and not use any attributes or skill points on their skills if you really want, but usually you can manage to find at least a skill or 2 from a different class that would compliment your current build well. Also, you can change your secondary profession later if you want to, so if you're not really sure what secondary you want right now, you can just pick one and then change it later.

you can have a 2nd profession without taking up a single
attribute point
skill point
or anything else
you cut off half of your possibilities for no benefit whatsoever
edit
for those who make the mistake of not getting it in presear where the skills are free you can get a second profession in post sear but the skills that were free are now costing a precious skill point

Pre-searing is the newbie area, ie, before The Academy.
Post-searing is the rest of the game, ie, after The Academy.
You don't need a secondary, though many of the veteran players will likely say it is a wise decision. Even if you don't use the skills from your secondary at firt, the option to have them is there, and to unlock them for PvP characters, and to use other items that you may find that require attributes from your secondary.
I strongly suggest getting one. Look for the one that appeals mostly with what you like. If you can't decide, getting monk secondary for potential healing and rezzing never hurts.

Okk thanks for replies.. Looks like I will be taking a secondary after all :P
Think I will go Necro.. Killing things then raising them to fight for you appeals to me in a distant way >=-D

If your looking to not pick up a secondary due to roleplay (the only reason why i guess you wouldnt), then roleplay would suggest the warrior would be a wise choice to have as a secondary for a Ranger as most rangers often have good sword blade skills when needed.
