Err=7?
Icephoenyx
Hi. I can get into the game fine, but a few minutes after I start, I get taken back to the login screen and it says GW could not complete the operation and to try again in a few minutes, but I've been trying for a day now! And it also says (Err=7). My friend does not have this problem. Whats wrong? Thanks.

Same here... I posted with a small text around it though... But in the end, I also have Err=7
walder
I have this problem as well. No idea what it means though. During missions I will freeze then I will be back at the login screen with Err=7.

Yay! I'm not the only one! Boo, we cannot play. What are your specs? We have 2 computers on a network (to play with girlfriend ). But the game doesnt seem to crash on mine, only on hers... She has a K7S41GX and we are using a WRT54G router.
Icephoenyx
Hopefully it is the technical difficulties of ArenaNet.
newborn
okay, here's the story:
I bought 2x GuildWars: one for me and one for my girlfriend. With the 2nd, box, I also bought a computer so she can play the game. Specs of that computer are: Asus 9550, Sampron 2400 and K7S41GX.
The problem is this: whenever she plays, we both get disconnected randomly after 30 seconds to 2 minutes of gameplay. But this only happens when she play... we simply lose internet for a minute or two, not even being able to ping google.com. We can download stuff, browse internet, play Counter Strike:Source, but when GuildWars it up, internet goes down.
So, all in all, I've gone through ALOT of testing today:
- Plugged computer straight in the modem to bypass the router,
- Changed the Cat.5 cables,
- Reinstalled network drivers,
- reinstalled windows,
- Flashed the mobo,
- Tried 3 different network cards,
- Changed the video card,
- Disabled sound,
- Reinstalled with another set of CDs,
- Used another account (mine which works on my computer)
and, in the end, I still have the same problem... Err=7
I sent a support ticket to GW tech. support, hopefully, they'll answer before next XMass...

ok guys not sure if this will help, But my brother who helped work on the game found this to be a problem. It seems like Guildwars and Netgear are eh...Ultra-non-compatible.heh. OK go to the port forwarding/triggering menu and switch to the port triggering menu. You should see starcraft, wich is the factory setting. DELETE it. Starcraft uses some of the same ports as GW so it kinda screwes it up. not sure all the tech. stuff but that should help if you havn't done it yet.

I use a Linksys router, I have no problems whatsoever with any other game. I got a COMPLETELY NEW computer. This means: motherboard, video card, memory, processor, etc. and we still have the same problem with her account. This is getting really frustrating.
Icephoenyx
My internet is really slow, I might have a virus or something, but I was thinking that maybe this has something to do with it. Does anyone have internet problems as well?

OMG! Okay, we found what was the problem... It takes a girlfriend who knows nothing about computers to have you start thinking outside of the box. Believe it or not, moving the computer in the room (away from the window) fixed the problem. Seems that there was a magnetic field or something in that corner of the room! Like: ooooooooooh my god! Anyways, its working flawlessly now, but I have one of those unstoppable headache, lmao!
LunchBach
...the window and megnetic fields seem not to be my problem, also i have a d-link router and every other game works fine. tech support still hasnt got with me on this either. any other solutions besides magnetic fields in my house relating to windows causing jesus to hate just guildwars?
Shadow_Wolf
theres many people with this problem, i also have the problem, you said you had a router? my dsl modem doubles as a router that i use could it be possible that it doesn't like routers very much?
Quest_techie
only happens to me in frontier gate, never anywhere else how would this be router based?
βlitzkrieg
I believe this is a connection problem. Is your connection dropping? Do you have a firewall that isn't allowing GW the proper access?

sometimes I can play for 3 hours with nothing, other times I'll play 5 minutes then get that err=7 . I've already talked to my isp and had them turn me down abit to avoid any "slapping" in the lines, but I still get that damn error.
this has been going on since the first beta weekend also. I had hoped by the time I actually paid money for the game it would've been fixxed.
there has to be a logical answer. magnetic fields and windows with goblins isn't it.
LunchBach
has anyone actually recieved tech support for this problem yet or is this somthing we will just have to figure out. if anyone gets tech support on it please paste or pass it on here, i cant seem to get much from them. only 2 months left in civilization i would like to be able to play a bit in that time, nahmean? :P

Doing a bit of research for you guys (figured I'd look at this thread since its so long), I've seen a couple of people suggest starting a new character:
Link Ctrl-F = err
Apparently it fixed other peoples so I suggest giving it a try.

For those with firewalls/routers/etc you need to open/port forward TCP port 6112 to your internal host/computer IP. At random times from 5 seconds to 4 hours I would get disconnected with err=7 until I made this change. If it still happens after you do the port forward then Guild Wars has a bug in the network code. I have seen these same symptoms happen in many many MMOs and online games and it has always been a firewall misconfiguration or game bug.
Wookai
How do you do that Despoiler?
Wookai
*bump* Anyone?

You'd have to read how to in your router's manual. Look it up online. Each one is different.
Also on a Netgear Router, as mentioned, under the port forwarding, you need to delete the settings under "Starcraft" that goes to the same ports that GW uses.

Hey guys. I did a system scan and I found some infections that really slowed my internet down. Now that I deleted them, I find my internet is working a lot better. I'll get back to you guys on how my GW is. If it still isn't working, then I give up. It has to be a technical bug of ArenaNet.

well i fixed it and it sounds retarded but i did what that dude said a few replies earlier and just made a new character, played all day without getting kicked once, hey whatever works.

Just probley a character creation error.
I have a feeling when you are making the character, and your connection is a little sluggish, it might curropt the data that is being sent to Areanet which is causing the problems.

There are several err=7 responses.
Overclocking is one of them.
Athlon 64 1.8 GHz at 2.7 GHz does it. They gotta fix that...

I only do computers, I tried an old ATI 9200 128 card and had some problems getting a burned smell out of my room for a couple of weeks... Its more of a "I'm bored, lets play with this." type of hobby. I have a couple of motherboards I'm playing around with (for the last couple of years) on and off.
Zaklex
Overclocking will not be supported by Guild Wars, so if you want to play it, use the normal settings. Also, as has been mentioned previously GW uses the following ports TCP 6112 is the primary, backup is 80. If your router or ISP blocks these ports they must be opened for GW to work.

ya i toatally agree it sounds about as wierd as the PC being near a magnetic field but i played again today after class and its fine, didnt have to create a new account just a new character.

I know you don't "support" it, but it ran fine all the way until my PC itself became unstable.
That's the mark of a good game.

Yay! It works now that I don't have any infections screwing up my connection. But now it is really laggy. Should changing to a less crowded district help? Thanks again!

I think the Err=7 message is just a generic "you lost connection to the server" message. I have problems with my DSL losing connection, which irks me to no end, and it's caused this same error to come up in GW.
Icephoenyx
Try scanning your computer for any kinds of infections.

I did a Pathping & Dxdiag report at the request of GW tech and one thing for sure as far as I'm concerned is the problem is not on my end.
I've tried playing with and without my router's connected, I've also got two routers one of which is a new D-Link wireless and I get the same err no matter which router is connected or none at all.
It's not a huge problem, although I admit being ousted from the game in the middle or near completion of a mission is a pain, I just let it slide and get back into the game.
I've noticed one thing though and that is it seems to occure when ever it feels like, I can be playing the game intensively and or doing nothing at all but eating and watching my character on the screen then all of the sudden I'm at the logon screen with that err=7.
I don't believe it's anything to do with my side of the game, it's something going on at GW's end.
Also to me it's not unusual to get disconnected from a MMO online, over the many years it's happened playing every online game I've played, sometimes worse than others.
If GW can figure it out then great, if not well I'm not going to let it spoil the fun, GW is the greatest since sliced bread as far as I'm concerned.

I just fixed the problem with my other computer disconnecting back to the login screen with the err=7 message.
I have a linksys 4 port Linksys router and wireless internet connection.
I was just trying things and opened the port forwarding under advanced options in the router setup and went to port triggering.
I deleted starcraft and port 6112 and added ports 1024 to 5000 for both incoming and outgoing and now all my computers are connecting and staying connected to GW.
I know it's a lot of ports to open but at least i'm able to play without getting disconnected now.
Hope this helps people.
