I've kind of been running two builds on my PvE prot monk (I'll come to the PvP build afterwards), one which I feel is superior to the other, but the inferior one gets preferred by PUGs because of the propensity for having a PUG where people don't follow target calls, etc. and tend to get themselves killed by running away from the healer.
Here's the basics:
DF 11+1+3
Prot 10+1
Inspiration 10
Basic skills for all 3 builds:
Sig of Dev
RoF
Prot Spirit
Mend Ail
Inspired Hex
Energy Drain
Here's the PUG-preferred other skills:
Rebirth
Divine Boon
Here's what I feel is superior:
Archane Echo
Aegis
Obviously PUGs like monks to bring res... I hate wasting a skill slot with res. Hate it. With Archane Echo and Aegis I can do a couple of things. Of course the first ~20 seconds of combat have Aegis up... very nice. Sometimes I can immediately recast due to fast recharge items. Alternatively, I can Archane Echo Energy Drain, which is an awesome 32 energy back. Works real well on bosses.
So that's the two PvE builds... in PvP I essentially run the same skills, and the last two are:
Hex Breaker
Divine Boon
I really feel this is a powerful PvP build, and has served me well in Arena. I haven't taken it into Tombs yet, but I'm planning on doing so, and welcome some pointers...
Some side notes: I don't like using enchants for energy management and while I've tried a couple Life Bond builds, don't seem to have had much success with them--things go a little crazy when you come up against enchant removal... open to advice here!
Fire away!!
