Ventari's Sell Area
Greygon
I gotta say... I used to really enjoy Ventari's sell. It's how I kept up with prices and what was hot and what was the next "Uber" stick of whacking and all that stuff.
But now, it's almost useless... I put up an auction 3 days ago and it drops so fast no one hardly even sees it. In 24 hrs <the bump requirement> it ended up on page 20.
I know that the reason that the sell (and buy and ETC) section is sucking right now is because it is TOO popular.
All I ask is please rethink how it is handled and see if there might be another way.
Thanks You!

I totally agree, it's impossible to try and sell stuff now... This was once the alternative to selling items from Lions Arch and other busy selling areas, but now this place is just as bad... :[

Aye.. things can get buried soo quickly.. perhaps they could split the forums some how..
Like into item categories... or "white" "blue" "purple" "green" "gold"... im sure that would chop it up some

Yep - but that's because EVERYONE is selling and no one is buying. The conundrum of the green items and increased drop rates/chests.
You see the same thing happen in the game in LA and Ascalon.
Sorry, but even with a sorting function or an auction house, you can almost guarantee that your item will still get lost in the fray.

Oh I agree with all the causes of the problems, and honestly it was even happening before the SF update. I guess that is to be expected since over time there are more and more items that people find that they feel are worthy of selling. I just wonder if it might be better to maybe section it up more or something so that stuff doesn't drop like a rock to the bottom pages before anyone really gets a chance to look at it.
Maybe subsections for different items i.e. axes, swords, shields, elem. staves & wands.. etc.. Maybe even a section just for multi item auctions or come up with some new way to handle multi items. Maybe even sections for less than perfect items that can be afforded by the general populace too.
I just know that as it is now it is worthless. But, in my opinion so is RPGtraders and trying to spam in game. Am I the only one that feels like at this time there is really NO way to sell items that is working the way it should?
Could a mod maybe start a thread in Ventaris to get opinions on this? I would, but I started this one and I hate to start another in another section about the same thing.

I totally agree, you put up an auction, then five minutes later it's burried three pages back, never to be seen again.
Jade
I agree as well. It seems that you put something up for sale and within the 24 hour bump limit it's 15 - 20 pages back. Now I'm not sure about some people but I know I've only got patience to look thru maybe the first 10 pages. After that......

no i use the forums to sell quite a bit, one thing that helps, is have MANY items on your auction, that way it is more likely to get a bid, an therefore gets moved back to the top
the real thing i think is causing the problems though, is jackasses that keep bumping their own things, ignoring the 24 hour requirement, and people who just post nonsence in peoples threads(probably some of their friends)and it just gets it moved back to the top

I think for selling and auctionning items, you should send private messages to the one who posted it.
OH! and I'd really like to see the forum sorted through by types: Weapon types , focus and shield as well as runes instead of it being all over the place, that would really help people find what they are looking for.

I agree, but now even multi page auctions with great stuff are dropping like stones. I saw an auction with perfect mods and several of them on page 8 with like 10 views. No one has the patience to sort through all the crap to find the jewels with as many posts as there are now. My most recent auction had 2 pages of max gold and purple bows and max mursaat hammers and really good stuff, and I got like 4 bids that were not even serious (i.e. 5k for a 80k hammer) I just hope they do something soon. I also hope that A-Net comes up with an in game consignment shop or something like that soon. (Not holding my breath though. Been begging for that since BWE's)

another gripe i have with the system on here, is people bidding that dont actually have any intention of buying, i had someone bid on an item, way over the other bids, and then when i contacted them to tell them they had won, they didnt respond, or retract their bid, they waited until i had finally found them in game, and then said "oh sorry i didnt tell you i dont want that anymore, so sorry" so i gave them a bad rating, which i feel is justified, because i wouldnt have done that if they had bother to contact me sooner, and so they gave me one back, and said its because i hold grudges, and they wont trade with people like me, well, its not like they had any intention of trading anyway, which was the problem
if people are going to use the trade forums on here, they need to take it a little more seriously, its not like in a real life auction, or even on ebay, they will let you just make random bids that you have no intention of paying, and they shouldnt be allowed to on here either

Good Idea... will work ok on small auctions or single items, but hard to do for multi page. Any ideas on how to handle multi page?

There are other solutions that the Guru Staff are looking into for the Trade Forum to make it more user friendly.
Until then, I like the idea of adding a keyword(s) in your auction so people can search easier for a particular item.
==============================================
My 2-cent observation of the Guild Wars Economy.
1. There is an over abundance of players selling vs. players buying.
2. Buyers will not waste their gold for mediocre item. Buyers desire to use their gold toward Perfect Items.
3. Players are seeking to buy Green items or try to get one themselves by doing the missions.
4. Players are more inclined to Chest farm since they will get a Purple or Rare Item.
If you look in any district, people are spamming Trades, but very little are buying probably because of the comments above. Accumulating wealth is part of the game, but don't let it ruin your fun. There are other things to do within the game to make your time more enjoyable.

like ive said before; i think there needs to be a seperate high-quality forum; perhaps even a mid-quality forum. the problem with this is is that MOST items sold tend to be upgrades or mid-quality golds and or greens. so really the only way to make a substancial difference is to seperate it into three categorical sub-sections:
top-of-the-line golds, where only perfect/near perfect equipment is allowed to be sold and would have to be presided over for quality control, but this isnt as hard as it sounds since these items are far less common than the stuff that wastes 20 pages in venatris sell.
green items, pretty self explanatory; there are very, very few things more annying than for someone to say "PERFECT 9 req +30 fort 3:1 vampiric sword!" only to have it end up a green (this is more of a problem in-game, but you get the point). and at the same time middle-class players will have thier own area where they can buy/sell perfect items for a fraction of the cost of perfect golds.
the sell forum (as is), leave this as is, minus the aforementioned items. this means upgs, medium-quality golds, etc are all paired in together. i do NOT think upgs warrant thier own forum simply because if you need help finding upgrades you need to review your aptitude in trading ability; upgrades are at this moment more common than ever before (especially 1-off-max upgs).
thats my 2 cents.

My original proposal, which I still feel is the most pragmatic and easily implemented, is simply adding a 4th subforum called "premium and elite trades" or some such, and is for items that are generally expected to be worth in excess of 100K. That might include some greens like razorstones for a while longer, and there will certainly be a few people who post stuff that doesn't belong, or stuff that is questionable, like a 14>50 fellblade, but at the end of the day, I think it will greatly simplify the forum. I would love to have one forum to visit with all 15>50 items or flawless 15% always, reasonable requirements, or exceptionally rare items. I think it could happen and work just fine, and mods could move stuff that doesn't belong. It will be be the same 50 or 60 people doing all the shopping in the premium forum, but at least the threads of truly priceless stuff won't be pushed to the next page in less than an hour.
I suggest trying it out for a week right now. It would take less than a minute to implement, and would be a great interim solution until more elaborate ideas can be considered and accepted or rejected.

well thats no solution (maybe it is for u), why cater for the 50-60 "elite" people, theres still everyone else to consider who want to sell/buy decent weapons/upgrades.

It is offered as an interim solution that will seperate the offerings some without making dramatic changes. Everyone will still look through both the regular sell and the premium sell to see what is out there, but at least people can categorize a little and make a judgment about where to post. If I need a mod, I will go and look in the regular sell, which will be easier to navigate without so much stuff in it. If you need a 15>50 fellblade for a whim, you can look in the premium section.
Ideally, I think multiple subcategories would be nice:
1. Swords, Axes, Hammers, and Shields
2. Caster items and offhands and staves
3. Upgrades and mods
4. Miscellaneous (materials, dyes, whatever)
5. Buy forum
6. Etc forum for services and price checks
7. Premium forum for really amazing stuff
That would be a long term solution, though. Start small and work your way up.

because there are few things more depressing than selling great items, and having the thread pushed to page 15 in an hour and a half by items that arent worth over 60k.

Just had an auction thread closed due to the 24 hour thing. I would'nt mind except the post that got it closed was responding to an attempt to hijack the auction.
If I was really mean and nasty I could create a user, have that user post
"dont buy it it that, I just bought one for half the price" on every thread and the poor seller's auction would have been damaged for 24 hours before being able to respond.
I can understand the reasoning behind the 24 hour rule but can I request in future that the mods take the context of the offending post into consideration before weilding the lock feature and not just leeroy with no thought behind it.

There is a report bad post button that works far better than getting into an argument with someone for insulting your item.
Shanaeri Rynale
To be fair It was'nt so much an assault as an attempt to try and get the items for a lower price than market value. In such a case PM's would not work.
How much investigation does a mod do before locking a thread? IMHO they should at least take a cursory look at similar threads by the users in question to determine if there is an alterior motive.
I tend not to want to bother the mods with reporting a bad post in one single instance. If it happened again after a polite response from myself then I would consider using it. It's all about common sense.
This was my first ever attempt to try and auction something and tbh it was me who felt like the wrong do-er not the would be interferer. That can't be right.
So please, next time you want to lock a post. Look at the context, apply common sense then the rule book.

not necissairly argument, but some people do say things that have a public impact on the ability to sell your item, and may not be posts worthy of moderation; these deserve a civil response. its when people start using derogatory terms for no apparent reason does moderation and or persnal messaging come into play...
at least in my opinion.
