I searched, and nothing like this came up.

I would like to know if it is possible and if anyone is interested in adding a "Serious Discussion" Forum in addition to the OT and Absurd forum. As some may have noticed, certain topics get closed in the OT forums because of religious or political content, and I personally would like a forum where we could discuss serious matters (Hey, TGH has one

).

If nobody else likes it or thinks it's a good idea, I'll shut up I suppose

I would agree if discussions on those topics were kept civil. However, based on what I've seen here in the past... topics like that degenerate into flame wars VERY quickly. Then the mods have to step in and close them anyway because all that happens is people insult each other. I think if you wish to discuss matters of a political nature, there are chat rooms and forums dedicated to that elsewhere. It's a good idea in theory Manadar... but I don't think it would work in practice.

I would love it but we would need soem really good modding on it were stuff that was entirly uncalled for or inmature is deleted VERY quickly before it gets out of hand. Maybe make it a section/foum that you have to register to post in and if you act inmature you are booted and not allowed back into that particular forum.

While I'd enjoy a board for that sort of thing, it won't happen because it will always lead to flamewars. Would it be a good thing to have? Yes. Can the community handle it online? Nope.

If you want to see how it would work... go check out any of Zehly's old threads. Or check out some of the threads after Hurricane Katrina. Some of the responses in those thread were downright sickening. Some people just can't help being insensitive a$$holes. They don't have the maturity to comment on serious subjects. Sad but true.

I have to agree with Aracos.....People treated Zehly like crap....Some people lack the maturity to handle a serious topic with respect. I am not sure if it is the fact that they maybe under the age of 12 or if they truly are self righteous a$$es....I would love to see a serious topic handled with the maturity most of us long time posters posess....

Why?

Because there are too many people on the planet that have different views on things. All it takes is one person to start a big debate then possibley a flame war. And who really likes those except for Mr. Troll Trolly?

And, adding to what EnDinG said, this is a forum group dedicated to a game. The internet is a vast and wondrous place and there are literally millions of other places to go and discuss politics and religion to your heart's content. As others have said, there is just too much potential to have topics of a serious nature turned into junk and pointless ranting.

Ah, I see...

I know it would probably degenerate into a flamewar, but looking over the Serious section of TGH forums, it seemed rather civil. Eh, different forums attract different people

I'm not saying it's impossible. Frankly, I wouldn't mind but I think that it would have to be a subscription only and HIGHLY moderated forum with the mod(s) having removal authority over anyone who engaged in name calling, flaming or trolling. It wouldn't result in a forum-wide ban, but just removal from -that- one forum.

I actually like the idea...sort of. But then again, I participate in a couple of VERY lively political forums, one great education (or should I say ANTI-education) forum (I'm a teacher so I make 'em mad LOL) and a "cult" forum so I get it all out of my system in those places.
