What are the good classes in GW?
Balrog1978
Hi,
I'm a noob and had posted this as a question reg Palladin Class earlier. Basically, I wanted 2 play as a Palladin equivalent however I got a 50:50 response in and against favour or Warrior/monk. Someone had suggested the Warrior/elementalist as a powerful alternative, which had piqued my interest.
My point is, are there other suggestive/powerful classes that ppl want for Guilds AND are powerful for tanking mobs? How good IS warrior/elementalist combo?
thanx

A Hammer wielding Warrior/Earth Elementalist combo is a VERY powerful tanker if you focus on Tactics and defensive earth spells. (Note that this character can be quite vulnerable to mesmers and necromancers specialising in Curses, however). With a bit of tweaking, you can change your character to a heavy damage dealer by putting more points in hammer mastery and making use of spells like Aftershock to complement a lot of your Knockdown special attacks.

Nice. I'll keep that in mind. However, Am more of a sword lover by nature. Any good choices vis-a-vis guilds/mob-tanking, in the piecing weapon arena????

Warrior/monk wield an axe and a shield and you can take on mobs quite nicely *platemail armor* or warrior/ele. however i find as a warrior/ele you have very little energy and poor energy regen.

Hmm, Good point dude.
But then, I keep hearing Warrior/Monk are more likened 2 Noobs event at higher levels. I'd like to get the best (or at least try to get) of being accepted in Guilds(for PvP) and still be wanted in the Mob-Tanking(for PvE).
Since I'm STILL for piercing weapons, how would u guys rate (based on above factz) :
Warrior/Monk:
Monk/Warrior:
Warrior/Elemt:
(Any other POPLAR combo) :
All Hail!!!

Mandy Memory
you can change your secondary later in the game(closer to the point where it begins to matter)...and w/mo is by far the easiest way to make it throught the boring low level part
Savio
Good guilds would NOT accept or deny you based on your profession choice. Especially since most people have more than one character, it would be more how you did in battle.
Algren Cole
every class is balanced...there is no "best class". Pick whatever class you get the most enjoyment out of.
Thanato
there may not be a "best" class, but there are popular choices. and those that arent popular are shunned and its hard to get in a group at times (mesmers and necromancers i'd say)
giroml
If you really want to join a guild that would exclude an entire class combination be my guest but don't plan on them being any good, lol.

One thing to be aware of, though -- warriors are equipment-dependant. At 18th level, I have crappy armor. (I'll upgrade soon.) If you have the best equipment, you'll do fine. If you don't, you'll be a second-rate elementalist.
Sir Skullcrasher
I have level 20 W/E equiped with fire magic (10) and axe mastery (11). I find that i can do quick damage with my axe attacks than clean off the rest of enemies with meteor showers or firestorms. But before i switch to axe, i used hammers. I do like the knockdown effects but when a warrior is using hammers, they attack slow but for heavy damages. I'll keep this axe with fire magic combo for a while before i change anything.

They are trial and tested classes. But since everyone uses them, they are very unoriginal, if you'r emaking a Paladin like character than I really think that the W/Mo is the class that you should be looking at. But as other's said there are powerful alternatives
I think a N/W or W/N(Black guard instead of a paladin) Would be interesting to play
Check on this site skill listing for the Curses: Mark of pain, Insidious parasite and parasitic bond, shadow of fear as well as price of failure can really add to you warrior's damage dealing.
If you play N/W you'll never be at a lost of Energy with Soul reaping (which give you energy whenever a creature dies) and will be able to have an army of undead which you can just transfer all your damage to with Dark bond. The dead giveaway though it you have low armor class and will be dealt damage much more than if you took W/N.
W/N however has less energy to cast these necro spells.
These are just thoughts ( I don't play warriors much)
Valefic
i was originally a w/mo but i switched to w/r and now im in love with tigers fury. and i have an all warrior build where i farm griffins. i suppose its really ur choose and wat u have fun w/.

Hmm,
My choices Increaseth geometrically
Well, i DO dig the Palladin Route(W/M), But I'm kinda intrigued by the W/E or W/N combo. I'm Loath to move away from W/M because of my disposition, but I'll go ahead with W/E (either earth or fire) for now.
Thx for all the feedback guys.
If there are any such helpful threads in the forums, plz post it here. Will be helpful to all noobs planning to take the plunge

W/Mo & W/E
Nobody pays attention to W/Me, W/N, or heaven forbid, W/R...
I'm partial [ok, out right biased] in that I love the W/N in terms of versatility...
His skills unlike elementalist, aren't all 25 energy. In fact, some of his best skills are only 5 energy. [Virulence anyone?]
He can deal with any and all threats and conflicts. By increasing damage [for his team as well as himself through barbs/Mark of Pain], by countering magic [rend enchant for the win], by decreasing enemy dmg output [Shadow of Fear anyone?] He does conditions like a madman [sever artery, Virulence, Plague Touch... OH THE HUMANITY ] AND he can drain hp to keep himself going...
W/N, the perfect class for versatility. [at least for me...]

Necro own those new elmo smiters plus Ive had a few in my team they can hold their own nastily.
Mesmers are the bane of any caster, specially healers. Mesmers are a must have to shutdown that friggin healing monk good.
The last used class would be ranger since they nerfed spirits. However back in the day they where all too popular. Still I fought against a new group of Rangers in arena that make use of a lot of interrupt skills: Choking Gass, Diversion Shot... Plus rangers are good at delivering conditions with a necro or mesmer they get even better.
I can't find a class that isn't good at all. What does happen is balance of power is shifted. What was hot yesterday isn't today.

i used to play W/Ele (earth magic)
heck i even played it in tombs
my darling warrior took an 8 man beating for 1 minute before he died from poison
skills i used: obsidian flesh, armour of earth, healing signet
obsidian flesh (elite) +20 armour, can not be target of spells (no hexes, or attack spells), armour of earth = +48 armour
movement speed reduced by 76% so you are really really really slow >>
advantages: you can live long, attack and deal decent dmge (unless they start running)
other warriors do 0-1 dmge to you ^^

Loquest, I'm sorry to burst your bubble but taking an 8 man beating for a minute or more really shouldn't prove a problem if you use water magic instead of earth, i.e Mist Form.
If it's all about tanking just use Mist Form and let the poor fellows pound away. The drawback is that you can't attack either. But hey, it's great for tanking!
I use warrior/elementalist with Conjure Frost and Frozen Burst and possibly Armor of Mist (not the same as Mist Form) or Blurred Vision.
Conjure Frost will help increase my DPS and Frozen Burst can deal some quick ice damage and snare the enemy if I need it, even though it has a steep 15 energy cost.
Armor of Mist is useful if I suddenly need to retreat or run, while Blurred Vision is good against melee opponents.
I don't use all of those skills though. I switch around from time to time.

Personally, I find warrior the most boring class to play, and it's certainly doing less damage than most other classes (less than ele or monk, or a good mesmer, haven't played ranger or necro enough to judge those). The best part about warrior is the good armor + speed skills that allow you to run to places instead of fighting through them ... which was a good thing for my 3rd PvE character.
If you do play a W/Mo just be aware that many people avoid them since people's experience seems to teach them that 95% of wamos are, erm, intellectually challenged . So you may get some initial discrimination even if you're a cool person and a good player ... but on the bright side, all the other wamos will like you (scary thought ...).

Holy Crikey,
All good points dudes. Most of u are right, think adventerous, try different combos, and try to be as original and let the game play you and not the other way around .
All Hail!!

grats balrog, thats definately what you should do.
I was sick of playing my air el/dom mes as there are way too many of them so I wanted to be something different. I switched to earth el/death necro and I am loving every minute of it and feeling pretty original in my playstyle in the process.
Only bad thing about it is I am finding that there are not too many teams in tombs that want earth els..... kinda curious about what is up with that.

I have to take issue with the "people ignore W/Me" comment. Shatter Enchant = massive AoE damage and the obvious effect shattering. Its a very good class to play. Shatter Hex FTW!

Please forgive it being so .... everywhere I'll clean the build on that site when I get a chance. Basically it's a Warding Eart elementalist that uses Curses to penalize opponenets *tryin* to hammer away at it.
