So,

When i first got Guildwars, i had a Ati Radeon 9700 g.card. Back then i got problems with GW crashing (occasionally), thought it was the graphic card, tried many things, reinstalling windows, new drivers, different drivers, reinstalling GW etc etc. But i got tired of it and accepted the crashed. Now I have bought a new Graphic card, a MSI 6800GT, reinstalled windows etc etc. Did the crashed stop, hell no, they still keep on coming, pisses me off.

my comp:

amd64 3500+
1 gb corsair XL
MSI Neo 2 Platinum (nforce 3 ultra)
MSI 6800GT
Windows XP (HOME)
M-audio Revo 5.1 (also new, didnt have it with radeon 9700)
--------------

what to do, have no frekkin idea. Could it be the motherboard drivers ?!?

I had a radeon 9700 before and never got any crashes but the graphix were lame.
My friend has an amd64 and older radeon and it works fine for him.

So it must be something else with your config. Is GW the only game that is crashing for you?

since you didn't mention DirectX version, make sure you have the latest version 9.0c.
Then if that still doesn't work, i'd try disabling the sound, trying to running into 16bit color...

you didn't mention your power supply. How many watts is your PSU...that 6800 is a power hog

same spec as you except ultra, i get crashes like hell so do alot of people i know on high end machines, it happens in really really unfortunate times, like the battle between me and lich, a gold fellblade dropped for me, at the fow forgery after weeks of trying to find a good group to get armor etc it pisses me off

helo.

forgot to mention my psu, its a OCZ Modstream 460W (should be enough). motherboard is, as i wrote, a Msi Neo 2 Platinum (nforce 3ultra chipset). Yea and its only GW which crashes. and yea I do have directx 9.0c (doesnt sp2 install it automatically). I usually play at 1920x1200, but that shouldnt affect the game right?

run a memtest and a Prime95 Stress test on your memory

Get the nVidia drivers, dont use the WinXP PnP drivers, or the CD drivers; iv had bad drivers from a Motherbaord company and a video card company... i say get new drivers for both.

try running the game at a lower resolution. I know that I can only play at 1600x1200 with 3x AA on my BFG 6800GT OC...Apparently this game doesn't like handling max settings.

maybe a log from the admin tools > event veiwer.

oh yeah the resolustion issure cant be as high as the mem card go's

id like the 2048 x 1536 res.... but i know it wont streach it.

some games cant handle that far of a point of view.

Could be a heat issue. I have a 9800 pro that I never had any problems with playing other games. When I played GW I would get Blank screens, reboots, and lock ups. I checked the temperature while playing guild wars and noticed the CPU and Power Supply were about 10 deg Celsius higher than with other games (pushing 65 C on the cpu and 67-69 on the power supply). I took the side off of the case and with the overhead room fan on the temperatures dropped to 55 C on the CPU and 57 on the Power Supply, more importantly I was able to play for 4 hours straight with no problems, even at highest settings.
I have since added an aftermarket cooler to my card (arctic cooling VGA silencer) and an additional case fan and have had no problems since.

When you did your P95 test did you end it yourself after 20 hours of error free stressing or did it crash a the 20 hour mark?

When I run memtest i like to run it for 24 hours At least to be sure there's nothing wrong

and for prime95.. i like to run it for a week... or if u can't wait that long throw in 3Dmark with Prime 95 and also throw in Winamp or whatever u use to listen to music and let it run for 24 hours..

ive had errors occur with prime 95 at 19hours before so to be sure your system is fine.. 24 hours at least is what you should aim for..

I get issues with my video card when I play Guild Wars that seem to be related to running it at max settings. All of the textures go white(so it looks like you're playing in the snow)....I've always assumed it couldn't be a heat issue because I have 14 fans in my case....just always chalked it up to shotty code.

I hear you Algren,

I think that what was happening with my setup is that the excessive heat generated from the video card during game play was toasting the CPU and Power Supply, that is why I like the VGA silencer so much. It is designed to not only cool the card itself (via a fan/heatsink much larger- but quieter! - than stock) but it also exhausts the heat from the card out of an extra PCI slot.
The extra case fan I added didn't hurt either but I only have 4 total now. I did have a PCI slot cooler right below the video card before I added the silencer but it honestly did not cool the card that much if at all.

Hey wOlla, just curious, try playing game with the side off the case and a fan nearby. 65 to me is high and when I dropped to 55 it really did solve my problem. I didn't have problems playing other games either, just GW.

It is normal for 6800GT to max at 65, so thats not the problem, they usually max at 70 something. And I have two fans blowing air right to it. But thanks anyway, any tip/help is appriciatet

When crash occurs, if you enter "event viewer" got some info in there? Some hardware / application error at crash time? or no errors recorded at all in log?
