After talking with my guild about the hoh and its format, lately we have increasingly seen the hoh really requires no skill to win anymore... its all about luck.

After a night of tombing... and after 7 flawless battles to get to the hall.. we find an eoe bomb waiting for us, something which i've seen so much lately..

Its not that we cannot be bothered to counter it.. hell we've beaten it so many times, it just really annoys me when IWAY builds stick up a spirit, one person stands still and the rest run in with a sole objective >> to die

Ok it is easily beaten.. just thinking.. the hall really should be a one on one or maybe even, the two teams fighting to gain favor fight first, with no time limit.
They then face the final team. At least that would require skill, or more skill if you see it that way. I know some will object to this, and i'd like to hear why..

Heh, im NOT calling for a nerf, not at all, just for the final battle to be focused on skill and rewarding those who can beat a team one on one.

I say this after 2 tomb runs this evening with nothing but flawless wins and an eoe bomb in the hall... what you guys think about the idea then..?

IMO its not that the IWAY is overpowered, its easily countered. Its just that 1 spirit can desecrate the map. I mean, I just think thats kind of cheap. Anyone agree?

I've always thought it'd be kind of neat to switch around the HoH play type around a little bit. An occasional straightforward DM for the HoH would be cool, and maybe even (god forbid) a relic run. At the very least it would own some of the teams that run a lame build designed exclusively for KotH battles, luck their way to the HoH and hold it 10 times in a row.

A third (known) team with [MB] as their tag, hooray! Now we have Moa Birds, Muppet Babies, and Mental Block. I swear, everyone wants to be like us.

Damn... spirits still screwing up the HoH? I'm just doing team arenas to get faction to unlock everything, waiting for the time that HoH is fixed.

eh, not so much spirits, just the fact it doesn't require skill to win..

The Edge of Extinction bomb is nasty and hilarious, but kind of frustrating.

Fortunately, it's also easy to counter: kill the spirit. A handful of casters should be able to wand it to death pretty fast.

You can counter an Edge Bomb with Mark of Protection, Divine Intervention, or just having one person on your team stand with Ghostly back out of the range of it. You'll get used to seeing an Edge Bomb coming after a few losses to it on an altar map and then you'll either start packing a counter for it or just positioning a way around it.

No we didn't just skip straight to Courtyard, we won Underworld, Burial Mounds, Broken Tower and then skipped to Courtyard which we also won. We then lost on the relic map after Courtyard before HoH.

anyone with [MB] in their name deserves a free sigil, apart from some members of muppet babies who seem to think we are trying to copy them....

yea it happens, and yea we do beat them on any map....

but the point is good, it requires no skill to die, i mean, why bother with ranks if you require no skill to get them ranks ehhh

You all seem to be missing my point here.

I don't care about iway, bombs or whatever, just the format in which tha hall is atm. its not about skill like it is.. when people run in with a sole purpose of dying, how is that skill... how does that deserve to win the hall? A one on one battle is what i'm talking about, instead of 3 way so bombs cant be used so much.

Hang on, I will post. I'm waiting for 2:15 to rush in and post.

oops sorry HoH syndrome.

It SHOULD be a 1 vs 1. The way it is there is no way to hold it when you consider 16 vs 1 ghostly hero, how the hell you gonna keep him alive with out playing with 8 monk, which BTW would rarly make it to HOH anyway.

I agree, hoh is messed up. But IWAY builds are soooo easy to counter. That should be the first thing you think of before entering tombs, if you loose to an IWAY and feel bitter , ah well . But hoh doesnt take skill to win once, but it does take skill to hold and get to hoh (assuming you dont skip).

If the team made it to hoh, they beat other teams, or perhaps skipped there. That's there to weed out unskilled teams.

EoE's pretty common in the hall. It's pretty easy to indentify too.

Spirit spamming is gone, and I haven't seen any builds out there yet that make's you copy it to be competitive (like use NR or be beat by it).

I think they've done a good job 'fixing' things, and while I'm sure there are imbalanced skills out there, there's nothing that dictates the game the way spirits did.

gah, not talking about skill balancing, its all good atm maybe, just the format of the hoh, its crap.

Nobody really holds the halls anymore apart from well co-ordinated spike teams. i mean, for gods sake surely a one on one for the halls would at least be the most skilled teams in there and people could really see who are the best in a one on one battle.

The relic running and multiple team formats are there to make you build for multiple things, and not just winning 1 on 1s.

If it's all unskilled, and all random luck.. why are people holding the hall for multiple rounds?

Until I see a different name every 10 minutes popping up, I don't believe it's based on luck and lack of skill.

I don't think that's at all true.. and spike teams..? I don't think so, sorry.

Play gvg if you only like 1 on 1s.

i agree with rey, i mean i did alot of tombing with him and from my experience in the halls it is to a large extent about skill... ive lately been seeing lots of new hall taking strategies, like i was ganked by both teams once as the defendor which was kinda mean... then the other time this mesmer just sat out of range and degened everyone wasting energy for like 8 mins... it was pretty awful. so its not pure luck, a crappy team can only win if the other two teams kill each other gving the third a free win, which has happened.

about the eoe bomb, you need to watch for that in holders. you dont want eoe to go off if you dont hold the hall, your ghostly will just run around doing 0 damage to everyone. its actually a really good idea to grab eoe just for the halls as a defendor, put it down at like 1:30 if you're still holding and then forget about healing the team, focus on the ghost. it works, and a good team needs to be prepared to take out the spirit asap.

i think its the 3 way-ness of the hall that makes people think its 'luck', since 3 way games are generally about more than just 'my team is better than yours'

lol.. ok. guild vs guild is a completely different format to hoh and the tombs, people split into groups for it and run around a larger map with a different general plan, there arent npc's on your side in the tombs.

To say play gvg if you want one on one situation is a completely stupid thing to say however true it may seem, its not about the overall fighting skill and battle as there rarely are battles with everyone invovled once you get higher up the ladder, its more about tactics.

and.. if there is skill in the hall still, then why does the favor change so much?
Why can one team not hold for a prolonged period of time?
so..everyone has the skill because they can win? or just because they can survive an eoe bomb better than others, i do not see this as skill im sorry.
Or maybe you think nobody has skill due to the state of the hall atm?

A one on one battle in the hall would be better than it now is. If you call skill running in to die and capping an altar which nobody is defending, then your vision of the game is kinda limited.
