Whats your REAL rank?

There needs to be a way that you can actually tell a persons real rank. 9 people out of 10, will actually lie about their rank to make them seem better than they really are, and so far theres no real way to see if they are right or not. Sure, theres the emotes that you get every 3 ranks, but once ppl get to rank 3 theyw ill say they are rank 4 or rank 5, if they havent attained rank 3 yet they will say they are rank 2. It gets really annoying, when you want to find decent players with a good ranking or whatever rank you are looking for, to join your group. What i suggest is that more emotes could be added, one per rank, or the rank is displayed above peoples heads like their class, in the tombs or team arena.

I have zero fame; ill get to that in a little bit should only be 1 more month of farming for skill points till I unlock all skills with my UBER LEET HAX0R UN-NOOB MONK...

too bad rank 0 isnt like a... BUNNY!!?!?!?!??!!?

but rank has nothing to do with skill; sorry to say it.
however maybe you need a guild that can work togather maybe over team speak or other various communacation devices.

I agree with Deviance;

Rank doesn`t have anything to do with skill.

A person who is only doing PvP since 28th of April will have a good rank. But does that make him better then some1 who has done lots of PvE and just wants to do PvP now and then??

Ofcourse; a player with high rank, will be more likely to have done the several PvP disciplines like relic-run.

I'm not saying that you only have skill if you have a good rank. Im saying it would be nice to be able to see what rank is if you are looking for someone of a certain rank, for whatever purpose(most likely to see if they are competent, not saying r0 people arent skilled). Because of all the people that lie about their rank, this makes it hard to do. I know, there are plenty of people with 0 rank that probably, and in some cases do, have more skill than ppl with r6. All i am suggesting is a way to see what rank a person really is.

As little as rank indicates skill, it is a better indicator than randomly selecting people, if you see someone is rank 6, they at least have experience, perhaps not skill.

It is like saying education immediately gives you a better career and salary, not true, but, it is a good indicator.

All you wannabe elitists achieve with your "Rank 90+ only!!!!" is to drive away newcomers. All this rank nonsense just excludes those that are either new or worked on unlocking stuff first.
And what is really funny is, that a team of rank 0 will easily own most rank 6 pvpers without much of a problem. Want to know why? They're not infected with the FOTM. Don't tell me Spiritspam, Warriorspam, Smitingspam, Airspam or anyother form of FOTM required much skill, it basically was just copying someone elses build all over again. How exactly is button smashing skill? It is not, however a lot of button smashers quickly rocketed to rank 3 or even rank 6 by simply copying.

But sure thing elitists, treat your newcomers like they are infected with pestilence. I'd more like to see the fame command getting removed alltogether or made non public so that only you can see the graphic. All it does is create a society of wannabe pros.

i don't think it would be a smart idea to let the game show everybody's rank, cause beginning players will never be chosen into a group because their rank isn't high enough.

So you can think about yourself by saying "let's show everybody's rank" but for once also think about other people who aren't going to be chosen in a group then!!

I only ask what build they are and see if it will affect the rest of the party when i do PvP rarely.

Sand, some people with Rank 0 will probably go out on a limb to make their own team, and I sure as hell don't want to see someone Rank 0 telling me I need higher...which I am doubtful they will, so it wouldn't really go that way, I have never been asked either for it, strictly my build.

Then again, Irealize how much I do not care to see rank.

If GW indeed uses a system to regulate its skill system, as well as its drops and other things, it's measuring your damage output and effectiveness in combat. Surely tracking the amount of damage you do to someone's health or energy, or the amount of healing you do, or damage you prevent, movement you impede would be more prudent. Of course, using that route, some people would try to make builds that have no goal other than to totally impede movement, or just spread damage around so much that it raises their fame.

There's no real perfect system. I just started PvP the other day, and just from my experience can tell you that I'm better than a good quarter of people already at rank 3. May not be saying much, but point being, rank is utterly meaningless aside from giving you an idea of how much of your life you've wasted online. Just another reason to grind in a game that's not supposed to have any.

Well then, this just proves rank doesn't matter.

i couldn't count on 2 hands the amount of times i've beaten AeC.

I don't need a hand to show you how many times we've lost to you

Build is about 25% of the game, the other 75% is when you smash the buttons. Its called timing and timing is most of the skill required in pretty much every sport I can think of.

If this game was all build and no skill you'd see completely random teams winning the HoH not the same team each day because by day 2 somebody would have copied their build and been doing the same thing right? Wrong, I'd like to see somebody else try and run Patient People's Ranger build...sure some other very well coordinated and experienced people can but if they win so much why don't you see random teams recruiting to do what they do?

Rank doesn't guarentee skill but lack of rank guarentees a lack of experience especially with how easy fame is to get now with all of the 1v1 maps. My suggestion is if you don't want to be judged by your rank that you find an active guild and go in with guild groups. They'll judge you on their experience with you and not by the only way a random person has to measure the abilities of somebody they just met.

Keep living in that dream... Keep believing that everyone plays FoTM builds...

Here in the real world when my guild wants to tomb and we need to pick up an outsider for a build (which is our last resort anyway, would prefer people on our friends lists, even friends of people on our friends lists etc =p), we would like some form of a metric to measure the person's experience by.

While rank is imperfect, it at least lets us know whether or not that person knows what a "relic run" or why is it important to prevent people from interrupting your capping ghost at a minute left, etc.

What is OP is asking for is outside the Rank=skill debate. There is currently a rank system in place for the purpose of giving a rough estimate of how much experience a player has. Since the indicators only come every three ranks a large amount of players lie about rank. This forces people to assume rank 2 and below is actually rank 0 and than rank 5 and below is actually rank 3. The solution to this would be give some way to tell what people's rank is. Currently the rank system doesn't function quite right.

Having your rank always displayed over your head would be very annoying to higher ranked players (they would get spammed with invites.) Personally I prefer not to bring rank into consideration until at least some discussion of build has occured. You can simply make it so /rank works for all ranks (rank 0 has no symbol) and a Rank X appears over the players head when they do rank. This way you can stay somewhat unnoticed if desired, but can still prove your exact rank.

Just color code the inbetween ranks.

Rank doesn't mean skill, but when you're picking up someone random, it's all we have.

Right now you can set up a rank 3, 6, or 9 (that would take quite a while) group, and anything inbetween there is just setting people up to lie.
