Ok, now I believe it now, loot distribution is not always random

That it would make no sense doesn't mean it's not in there, does it?

I did a 2-monk smite run once. My partner and me would aggro and attack different groups of critters and kill them independently (yes, we did that mainly so that we were in the same area to chat). We were quite a bit apart on the map and definitely not in each other's aggro circle. I NEVER got any drops in her group and she NEVER got any drops in mine despite we cleared out the whole map. I know some things about statistics and this is very UNLIKELY to happen if the drops were random.

Sometimes I think it has to do with who does more damage/gets the kill shot... I have traveled with hench... got maybe 5 drops out of 50 kills. Using witman's folly as an example with all the grawl in there. Yet I can do the same area again with a friend+hench and he'll get a ton of drops while I get? You got it... maybe 5 drops out of 50 kills while he might get 10-15.

I'm working on a solo build w/mo which right now is lv 14. I ran myself from piken all the way to Gates of Kryta last night. I want to do some small time running to so I'm working on that as well. I was able to run till I got to those mergoyals outside Gates of Kryta so I killed all I cam across. In the span of 30 mins I had made 2k + got 1 gold drop, tons of blue and purple. So I zoned into Gates of Kryta, sold off what I had, went back out... and got nothing but money and white drops lol

The drop rate is random, what gets dropped is random. But sometimes... I think there is more to it then that.

More and more theories on random loot drop.

what are the theories on winning a lottery? other than make sure to actually pay $1 to buy a ticket?

If I bought 5 tickets and all 5 were winners, I'd go right back in buy 5 more until it didn't happen any more, it doesn't matter whether it's luck or a mistake.

I can't believe 40 items to 0 is statistically going to happen.

But for the record I've noticed no difference between my monk/ranger/warrior getting drops when in parties.

He got all the drops. I'm serious -- ALL of them. And he wasn't back for nearly and hour, so there were A LOT of opportunities for that to change. Never did. It got so that when I was opening chests, I was half expecting that loot to be assigned to him as well!
I can explain that, its a bug. My first point is nearly always true except in the cases of game bugs. Did you report this to support.guildwars.com because tons of items dropping to one person is a statistical impossiblity due to my second point being true.

Getting EXP from a monster.
These following rules are true:
1) If your character is not in aggro range of the monster when an ally hits it, you do not get exp unless:
2) You do damage to the monster
and
3) Your party must do 50% of the damage to the monster to be awarded exp.

I noticed this when I was farming UW with friends on my monk. I had to at least get my aggro bubble over the monsters to get exp from them. Even if i just put my aggro circle over the monsters for a very brief period of time I would get exp. However if i stayed out of aggro and didnt attack the monsters or get my aggro circle over them in any way I wouldnt get any exp.

(evil laugh)
I really like that idea. So evil! So devious! So I'm gonna try it

I think the proximity thing has been implemented fairly enough. I was doing Abbadons with a PUG, and one guy went AFK right at the beginning of the mission for a VERY long time (we suspected a bot of some sort), but as we progressed, very few (apart from the odd 1 or 2) items actually dropped for the guy we left behind for the entire mission. It seemed that drops were otherwise divided up between the rest of us. How would people have reacted if he got a gold drop on the way without him doing anything, I wonder.....

As for the rest of this thread regarding the question of whether drops are random or not, I guess there is an algorithm written to try to keep shares as even as possible, but without knowing the coding in GW, and without knowing what portion/quality of drops get issued to the henchies, you might as well muse on the philosophical question of "Fate vs. Luck" with more success.

Yesterday in Grenth's i was partying with henchies and i had a really weird period. It was strange anyway but at one point i had literally gone from one corner of the map to the other, killing everything in my path and two bosses aswell.
I wasn't getting any items at all...just gold coins.

I counted them. 19 piles of gold in succession and then a stone summit badge. After clearing every enemy in Grenth's except for the ridge on the West with the trolls on, i had just 4 white items in my inventory. I was speechless!!

Total gold including the value of the 4 plain items on that trip was just 663.

What are the chances of that? Every enemy bar the trolls, and just 4 whites?

I think they should make loot drops less random.

The game tracks what youve unlocked, to insure that you dont pickup the same unlock more than so many times.
And maybe drop modifiers.
Like an item (accessory item) that increase dye, rune, collectors or whatever else drops.

Random seems the right way to call it, cause noone can truly pinpoint the way drops, drop, i used to get nothing with my war, now i just hit 1 mil xp a week ago, now i get drops like crazy, granted their not great drops, and not too much rare stuff, but i def see an increase in acctually getting them, the people in the guild that were always telling me to stop complaining about getting no drops.....now are the ones complaining about no drops or crappy drops, whiule i get to smile and have a private moment of revenge!!!!

Who's driving the WAAAAAAAAHMBULANCE today? lol

Trying to prove when, how, why, or whatever, about drops is like trying to prove that aliens exzist, it has it's ups and downs and who's to say what really affects the drops, other than a buncha numbers that move up and down.

No, you don't have to fight to get XP..you just have to have the circle almost touching the enemies when they die. Same for drops I guess. Makes sense, it is just to nerf power-levelling as well as inactive players being assigned good stuff.

You don't have to be fighting or even in the aggro circle to get loot alloted to you.

See, I lag out coming into zones alot (I need some new hardware on this computer :\) - the party sometimes leaves me and kills 1-2 enermy groups before I can get out of lag mode .

Even though I've been sitting there doing nothing - I regularly get stuff alloted to me from those kills..and I haven't even moved in the mission yet and certainly no where near the fight.

Your orignal statement about XP is true though - I dont get that.
