My Thoughts on Guild Wars

Well, after playing GW for a couple days now, and having played UO, EQ, DaoC, etc., and etc., I can say that GW is overall a good game.

First off. Stability. This has got to be the smoothest first week of an MMO I've ever played.

Graphics are comparable to games released these days, good job there as well.

The sound isn't annoying! I can leave the music on and not have my head explode.

Ok, on to the meat of it.

I like the fact that someone could jump in from day one and benefit from the player run economy. It's set up so you are better off price wise if you buy from other people. Of course, you could try to get lucky at the Material Trader, but that won't happen too often. One thing I have to worry about is the fact that items don't seem to have level requirements. I would hate to see twinking rule supreme and weapons dropped by lower level monsters be nothing but salvage material.

Speaking of salvaging, I like how the player doesn't have to sit for hours raising a crafting skill. With the right components and a nominal (imho) gold fee, you can get something crafted. it get's rid of a common annoyance and serves as a decent money sink. (Not too much, not next to nothing.)

The PvP system is well thought out, although it is lacking in some areas. I wish you were able to get a team together of people you work together with well and fight in the arena with them. I also think more variety in the match style would be good... (more than just 4 vs 4 matches). I havn't gotten very far in terms of PvP, so I'm sure I'm unaware of some things. perhaps I'm saying there should be more variety to us lower levels?

the number one thing that has me worried is the storyline. What happens when you do all the quests, do all the missions, know where everything is, etc. I will admit that I've been doing alot of quests and I already feel the sense of boredom coming on.

All in all, Guild Wars is a good RPG game that, with constant updating of new storyline content, shoudl stay alive for a good long while.

I would like to thank you for your great post. Very useful information for a person who is looking forward to getting this game

I hope to see more non-biased reviews.

It can be both. I have noticed that in explorable areas (the areas where monsters are), you can only zoom in so far. I don't know if this is a bug or if it's intentional.

Make a PvP Character and go visit the Tomb of Primeval Kings with your friends, you can form an 8 man party there and compete in a worldwide tournament where you play through several different maps (Deathmatch, Capture the Relic, King of the Hill) before reaching the Hall of Heroes where 8 teams battle it out for supreme dominancy.
As for the lower levels, yeah some other kinds of arena's there might be nice.
