New Scam and Scammer
Arcanis the Omnipotent
Name removed. Against forum policy.

He claimed it was the first time he was trying to scam anyone, but who knows. I didnt believe him.
He's trying to scam people into believing that Enslavement Stones can be used to get Greens from Collectors. I knew it was crap.
So be on the lookout for him, and make sure he doesnt scam anyone else.

I disagree wholeheartedly. All those scammers deserved to be scammed in a massive bout of poetic justice, leaving them broke and naked in Ascalon city post searing for everyone to laugh at.
Along with the idiots who wear starter armour in the desert, the smiter monks who pretend to be healers to get into Tombs parties, the asshats who run off and aggro 60 things assuming themselves immortal because they're an uber leet W/Mo with a protector monk in the team...
Basically anybody who hasn't a lick of sense.
This will promote the skilled people to get OUT of Ascalon as quickly as possible and out into the rest of the game where they can trade fairly in Lion's Arch and be useful party members for Ascension missions and the like.

unless of course he is selling enslavement stones for 500 gold each after telling people that, kinda like the people saying you can salvage ecto from dark remains, while their friend is in the same district selling dark remains for 200 gold each

Do Not Abuse The English Language This is a message board, not an AOL chatroom. As such, you have all the time necessary to articulate your posts in a coherent matter. "You" is only two more letters than "u", it won't kill you to type them. Completely illegible posts are subject to moderation - and I can't guarantee their accuracy of 'translating' the authors original message, if you get my drift. When one punctuation works (like a ?) instead of 10 (like ?!?!), use one. |

I am always against scammers and I always say that fault is only on the side of scammers but in this case I wouldn´t consider it as scam.
In my opinion, scam is when someone tries to trick innocent person for his profit. I don´t see any profit for him here. It is the same case as for example : "You have to buy these musli bars, they will make you stronger". Is this statement true ? Of course not. Can uninformed person be tricked by it ? Yes. Do I have any profit from claiming that ? No. Did I scam you by claiming that ? In my opinion I didn´t.

depends on what you mean by profit. Humiliation could be profitable.

or like i said, if they or a friend are then trying to sell the stones for a high price, then they are profiting off of their lies

It's not a scam, it just sounds like a bit of misinformation to play on the gullible.
I've not exactly been an angel when it comes to giving out accurate info. Once in ToA, I told someone who was spamming the public chat with "Where is UW", that it's south of ToA, then left at the first portal. Also, restarting the game after a patch (the one after the economy reset), I replied to everyone's question of "What's New?" by saying that the underwear of female characters has been changed.
Even I fell for the dark remains/ecto salvage rumour, but I had so many dark remains anyway, it was better to sell them off and buy and ecto rather than to waste it on expert salvage kits just for the chance of salvaging one.
Moral to any kind of rumour is just to think about the plausibility of the whole thing.

taking advantage of the gullibility of a new player occurs all the time, though normally it is when the new player is the seller not the pot. buyer. There's really not a lot we can do about it =(

do a couple of days worth of good deeds then go and kill some stuff in SF. you will get good drops. Karma.
Scammers will be run over by a bus when they step outside. (the size and speed of bus is directly linked to the amount and severity of the scamming)
scamming is really rather pathetic IMO.

I've seen idiot scammers like this and there's no need to name names, although you can find at least one in Lion's Arch almost daily.
Some trollers and scammers may make themselves out as the Village Idiot, subtly encouraging disruption of the game, and get their entertainment by reporting people who return fire on their antics. To the victims I say, learn the rules about reporting or simply Ignore trollers and scammers. And perhaps tell your friends.
Some may be known also as disrupters, getting admitted to guilds in order to become officers, and kick all the members. I have heard of this activity at least twice of the same culprit, but not directly experienced it. I can reasonably say there's a few folks out there who get their sole gaming entertainment from making players miserable any way they can, even if it means their reputation is at stake.
The only way to stop behavior like this is to ignore the foolish, fraudulent or mean talk, don't provoke further dialogue, and to encourage others to ignore it as well. You cannot stop someone who is ignorant and proud of it.
It's 2014 and this particular thread caught my eye because it is so strangely familiar, and makes me wonder if it can possibly be the same person for so many years. If that's the truth, it's a pity he hasn't discovered a better way to behave.

You are prolly right that this are the same ppl + alot 2k13/14 new age kids that fail at trading and rl. so they try to troll, scam, lowball and begging....
on gw2 the "sheriffs" work fast and merciless and this kind of behave is risky there. meanwhile they have on Gw a "carte blanche".

I am new as well, but being cheap protects me. I don't buy anything. To me it is more fun earning most things in the game. Earning them on your own. The knowledge of good and evil doesn't equal I.Q. I.Q. is mental age divided by chronological age times 100. Innocence should be considered a good thing but not in this world we live in. Just like the Vigil, people should protect the weak and innocent, not disparage them. Then again..some Char would like to kill the weak and innocent. The knowledge of good and evil...being a hustler doesn't always usher in wisdom or any kind of morality. Good grammar also important. Being understood and being able to communicate also can be important. But. being a bad grammarian has no indication on future potential.
This is a good forum and like some said the last beacon of hope. A shining light in a darkened world.

The scammer referred to in this thread (but not named) has at long last been permabanned from GW1.
What precipitated his demise was a desire to get his enemies ejected from GW1, some who just objected to his tireless attempts to wreak mayhem for his own amusement. His brand of entertainment in GW was to spread rumors inside guilds as an attempt to break them up.
This is what I think happened, I was only witness to a small portion of it:
He arranged to have a honeypot scheme that would tempt his target to use an illegal bot, and also expose the target's account creds at the same time. Unfortunately for this scammer, he didn't count on the target being able to retaliate and send screenshots to ANET as proof against him. The scammer is now gone permanently from GW, and that should set everyone at ease.
Lesson: Keep your nose clean, you trollers and scammers, and beware of those you wrong. Karma wins every time.

I keep seeing this being announced and it seems the win number has gone from 100 down to 25. Anyone else seen this?
