I am so confused about how the loot system works. I play with my husband and sometimes I will get all the loot and he gets nothing. Sometimes he gets it all. And sometimes it seems to split it up.
Is there any rhyme or reason to how the drops are distributed and are there options to chose how you prefer it to work for your party?

it is (supposedly) random for each drop.
great thing about randomness is that it is possible for one player to get 2 gold items from everything the team kills... theoretically.

drops are usually 1 for each person and cycles through from person to person evenly.
but ye sometimes, I do get 2 items in a row(w/ my name) and sometimes I get one at a time.(normal cycle)
I think when you get 2 or more items in a row of the cycle, it could mean that the drop system is "catching up" to your turn. it's funny. (I think it happens when the cycle accidently skips your turn from a previous drop cycle)
(/just a theory about when you get 2 or more in a row w/ a party)
-cheers.

Last night in a team of 8, we killed a boss and out of the 5 drops I got 4 of them. And I didn't feel shortchanged on loot up till that point so I dunno what happened.

Thanks so much for the replies. It is very perplexing. I've never played a game where the distribution is so random before.

technically computers can't be random so it's built off a dice roll system. Essentially Ann is correct...it's as random as a computer is ever going to be.

Whenever I do missions or quests with other players, I notice that sometime the drops won't come to me but on the next trip back, i would get 3 or 4 drops in a row. And i do agree with everyone here that its random.
But i have seen weird things too.. was doing a quest in Sorrow Furnace and when my group of (all level 20) kill off one boss, he drop two green items and it all go to one players? is that normal?
