Hi all!

With the new skill costs it has become a little more difficult to get all the skills for each class. I am getting ready to start building a new character and I am having difficult deciding what mix I can build on a budget. I only play PvE and I am not what you would call a farming lover. I simply love playing the game with PUGs! I know I am an oddity in the world of GW but....

What are the expert (insert your character name) opinions on how and what to build on a budget...what skills are a must have when purchasing them? I have only played a Mo/N and would be interested in playing another class.

Thanks for the advise...

There is just way to much open space here. So I will chime in with anything...

I have 7 level 20s, all ascended, 4 finished game, 2 were monks. 6 of 6 primaries. The professions I enjoyed least in PUGS:

Monk - LOL it's a damn job
Mesmer - because so few understand them and so few will group them
Ranger - see mesmer, though more understand them

Now, for me Melee just isn't where it is at in PvE. I have an ascended W/X (W/Mo to ascend), but she is just for solo farming and running. So, IMO you can skip on Mesmer and Warrior, since you played a Mo/N, I will assume melee may not be your cup O tea either.

This leaves:

Elementalist
Necromancer

Even narrowed down to these 2 you have a myriad of builds and options, and styles. You could go E/N and be a storage Minion Master with some in Blood for Offering of Blood. Odd stuff. You could be a Nec/E with Wards and Wells and some Minion capacity, however..

Pre-desert Necro Minions are FUN. They work, you can solo with them, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed my Necro from the first mission to the last, I redesigned her build as required. For some missions she was blood for support. For soloing or doing things with henchies she was death for minions. With a Necro you can be ALL NECRO, i.e. not concerned about your secondary spells. This can save you quite a bit. The same can be said of Elementalists, Mesmers, and Rangers.

Looking For Guild

I would buy skills that would work in many builds. For example, the skills Distracting Shot and/or Dual Shot are found in 90% of Ranger builds. Since many builds use these skills, it's cheaper than buying skills that your only going to use in one specific build.

Thats what I am talking about...I would love to dump all of my resourses into building a one class wonder with minor exceptions for the secondary class.

Now that I have narrowed it to a N/x ...what are the skills that I have to have..or those that are never used if that is eaiser...I like the Blood/Minion builds so those are the two that I will focus skill collection on.

Thanks for giving this some direction Vexed

Personally, if you're sticking to a PvE build, I find it's fun to build an old fashioned Nuker. They can be fairly cheap and they get decent skills early and are easy to team with (and fits decently well into a solo w/bots questing run). A E/Me fits this well, if you focus on three areas for attribute points: Energy Storage, Fire Magic and Domination Magic. Get AoE's like Chaos Storm, Fire Storm and Lava Font and single target attacks like Pheonix (with the bonus of impact damage) and you've got a decent build that can handle itself early in the game. Once you hit the Wilds or even Crystal Desert, you've got a build that can take out enemies quickly and reap the monetary rewards--not to mention one that can be rebuild easily to fit into different requirements.
