PvP only characters

-I have a lvl 6 on the PvE side and I just finished trying out my new PvP. Is that all there is to PvP? Hit "enter mission" and get thrown in with 3 other random players with no option of picking your own team?

-My lvl 20 pvp charcter has same spells as my lvl 6 pve. Please tell me there are more skills to learn as the game progresses.

-I fought and won several team battles on pvp but my lvl meter never moved. I am supposed to earn more points that I can distribute to raise my skills even tho lvl cap is 20 right?

-Also, I readsomething about pvp only characters don't have as many options as those who lvl'd pve characters. What's the difference?

As always everyone's help is appreciated.

To unlock skills for pvp, you have to learn them on a pve character.

First, pvp in this game is *very* deep. If all you've done is a random arena fight, you havent even scratched the surface. If you make a pvp character and go to 'tomb of the primevil kings' you will get a glimpse of what pvp is like in this game, but i'd advise you hold off on going there until you're more experienced with the game. (getting flattened repeatedly will simply frustrate you). But yeah, pvp in this game consists of 4v4 random teams, 6v6 arranged teams, 8 man team persistent tournament (tombs) and 8v8 guild vs guild.

Pvp characters are only permitted to go to pvp areas.

(might be a double post, PC acting silly)

You have to create diffterent Characters for PvP and PvE? I thought you could make one, and have that person go out and PvE and go to specific places and PvP? Also, Skills and attributes adjusted at specific locations?

Example-Warrior/mnk I lvl up to 20. I go out and PvE with freiends while putting a bunch of attribute points in sword, strength, tactics. Then with the same group of friends and same char. go and PvP against another group with a bunch of points attributed to axe and healing prayers. -Is this possable and my little mind getting confused for nothing or does the game work differently.

RP characters can do everything. PvP characters can only do PvP and cannot gain experience, level, get new skills etc.
To get more skills to choose from when creating a PvP only character you have to find them in PvE, thus causing them to be unlocked for your whole account.

Okay thanks guy (Spiritofcat and Xaanix) for your insight into the dynamics of GW. I have a better understanding of the game now thanks to you two.

Doesn't that kinda make the whole "Guild Wars will reward player skill, not hours played" deal? I mean, it seems to me that to be competitive in PvP, a person would need to spend as much time in PvE to get the skills...not only that, but spend the time in PvE with the same type of character (Warrior/Monk for both PvE AND PvP) to get those skills?

This is really not sounding what I thought it was going to be....I granted, I have not played really any PvP yet, but, when I do go into that, I am going to have to play the game (PvE) how many times before I can use a particular type of character in PvP.....

Unless I am just missing something, but I understand that a character (warrior/ranger for example) will only have basic "builds"....so, for me to use better skills, I need to take a Warrior/Ranger through the PvE game for my PvP character to be able to use them? Just doesn't line up with what the game was offering as far as "skills vs. time spent grinding".

Not sure I like this particular concept here....but, I could be misunderstanding (and it wouldn't surprise me if i am).
