I don't know about the rest of you, but the dual profession system of Guild Wars is not completely appealing to me. I found that building characters with one class to be far more enjoyable than building dual class characters. This made playing Guild Wars during the beta events a lot of fun. However, now that the game has gone live, this is no longer an option.
When I appealed to GW's support, I got this reply:
"Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Support. In order to enter the Academy, a character needs to have accepted a second profession. If you have further gameplay questions, an extensive online manual that will provide answers to questions about how to play the game and about how the various facets of the game function (http://www.guildwars.com/manual/default.html) This document will be changing periodically and growing to better serve your needs. We would like to suggest that you ask questions of a gameplay nature on one of our many excellent fansite forums, listed on this link: http://www.guildwars.com/community/default.html. The fans playing Guild Wars are usually more than happy to answer questions and provide other players with gameplay suggestions and advice, and many of them are active in one or more of the forums listed. And of course during gameplay, you may find that the fastest means to an answer is to ask the question in the game itself.
We look forward to providing a great future resource for Guild Wars in our online manual, and we thank you for your interest in the game.
Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team"
In my honest opinion, this is the worst change that has been made since Beta. The ability to customize characters has been given a restriction: single profession characters cannot exist beyond Pre-Searing Ascalon.
Single Class Characters no longer allowed.

Why dont u pick a second profession and then just stick with the main profession. I dont see how that could do any harm? Picking a second profession didnt do anything special besides open up more skills I could use. Just stick with leveling up your main.
Hydrith
I prefer, honestly, to have just one class. Having all those extra skills just clutter up my hero display.
Zyeox
Ok lets say u picked war/monk why dont u just use all the warrior skills that u want to use and dont use any of the monk ones? Then when u level up and u have to put your skill points in a area just put them in the war skill area? Or am I missing something.
Hydrith
I can't argue with you, it's just something that doesn't appeal to me. Sorry

I registered just to say your an idiot
Pick a second class and just dont level the skills. You do not need to keep them in your hotbar or anything. Your making a drama out of a non existant problem. Get over it.

I agree. It really isn't an issue. The only differences between having purely one profession and having a secondary that you don't use are entirely cosmetic. Get over it.

who cares if he's making a big deal about this. it may not be a big deal in reality, but he SHOULD have the option of not picking the other class if he wants. It makes it easier for the people playing against him. They'll see he's strictly a warrior class, or whatever he chooses, and they'll think, "Hmm, something tells me he's gonna be using warrior abilities, mainly", and they'll make a counter for it. Don't dis him, let him get owned

Playing a single class without a second sounds incredibly boring to me. It requires no thought. You just play the class as it's intended. On the other hand, mixing classes allows you to tailor the class' individual skill trees to match a desired combination. In conclusion, you sound like an incredibly boring and uncreative person. I hope you enjoy getting your butt owned by those who are more creative with their skills.

Ever played a straight Monk? Smiting + Healing + Divine Favor? It's funner that it looks. I just subbed Smiting spells for my Elementalist ones, and voila, I got a fun char that I still play. Other fun ones were solo Axe/Sword Warriors [when we had more then one weapon set] and Elementalists using Elemental Attunement.
You don't seem to be one who listens closely to anyone, so I'll do it your way:

I love Guild Wars for its surprisingly mature audience, and I hope that people like you won't ruin it for me.

I'm aware that people like you and I actually research and read up on games before we play them. However, a majority do not. Just yesterday, I saw a Warrior primary with a bow at the Academy, and it wasn't even the Ithas. Most people are still gawking over the /dance emote, a couple are intimidated by Tidus's "LEAVE EVERYTHING BEHIND," and a couple even assume that Pretty Ascalon is all there is to Guild Wars.
I understand where you're coming from. If I was making a single-profession character, I would hate the extra attributes in the Hero window. However, keep in mind that the average IQ is 100, and the rest of us have to compensate.
