How many guilds exist in Guild Wars? It's gotta be well over a thousand. My idea is to have a NPC that lists all the guilds by region. This list would just include the guild's title, tag, and the current leader's name.

There are at least 4000 guilds. I'm betting probably more.

I'd like to see an ingame listing that shows all the guilds, sortable/filterable by timezone, rank, number of members etc.

Also, it would be good to be able to message a guild (if they allow you to). Your message will appear as a whisper to an officer/leader that happen to be online.

It would also be good if each guild can save a paragraph of description that shows up in the listing - their website, their goals, if they are open to new members, etc.

I'd rather there were less "me & my friends" sorts of guilds, and more emphasis on established, organised guilds. And easier ways to find them.

That's what I was aiming for. This way if you're one of those looking for the "Top guild" it's much easier to find it.

If you are looking for a "top guild", you also have to have something to offer them. I doubt there are any top 50 guilds that accept people who bought GW yesterday and don't have anything except the PvP templates to bring to the table.

I'm against this. It only increases traffic of "newbs" who wish to experience the higher end, more experienced guilds. Of course, this only brings tedious spam to the members of these guilds, which I would find personally annoying. If you are looking for the top guilds, ask around, and you may find someone nice enough and with the knowledge to assist you. Also, playing with others gives you a better idea of how their guild works; rather than making assumptions by looking at names categorized by rank and member count.
