Superior Runes: cost to unlock in PvE
LifeInfusion
How easy is it to get Superiors in PvE nowadays? I have only gotten a few in hundreds of hours of playing casually. I got more by PvPing and slowly gaining up faction.
As it stands now, only Superiors are worth getting from PVP...

have any identified or if I only have one identified. If I have two or more
superiors identified for a given class, I give the superior to another guild
member who doesn't have any identified for that give class. For my 3rd superior rune and up in a class, I use faction points almost exclusively.

I've never unlocked a superior rune from pve, as I pvp much more than pve.
Sup Absorbtion
Sup Vigor
Sup Healing Prayers
Sup Protection Prayers
Not a whole lot of superiors unlocked, as you can see, but it covers the two classes I play the most. Been tinkering with a mez lately, so perhaps I'll unlock one of those runes next. I'd say roughly 1/3 my skills are unlocked from pvp as well, and about 90% of my equipment options.

I've unlocked two superiors through PvE. Basically I use faction for superior runes and max item upgrades and PvE for skills and less then superior runes.

Right now I've unlocked almost all my runes, I have about 8 left. Through PvE I've unlocked all the minor ones, 3/4 of the major ones and about 1/2 of the superior ones.
If you want to unlock them through PvE you either need to have some cash to by unided runes from players (I usally payed 200-500 for minors, 800-1000 for majors, and up to 2000 for superiors) or cash for keys to unlock chests (there are a few easy ones to get too if you look around). If you go the chest route just make sure you salvage the armors before you ID them. That will let you see what type they are, and if you need them, ID them, otherwise save them later to trade with a guildmate or over the trade channel. You can also get weapon unlocks from the chests which will save you some faction.
Whatever you don't buy unided armors, they are a total rip off since you have a 100% salvage rate for runes in armors and the rune will tell you exactly what class they are for (if they have no class then their vigor runes).

I unlocked about 75% of the my superiors and 100% of my majors and below from PvE. I was farming Riverside, then Twin Serpent Lakes for them. Thanks to the BOTs these areas have been made extremely difficult to farm. Riverside is very much still doeable, but not by anymeans easy.
If you are expecting to unlock Superiors I would invest some serious time into farming areas that drop them. I have only found 1 superior rune while playing the game. That was a Superior Vigor that I found (in Riverside) with hench. BTW I have over 850 hours playing, and that is why I say don't bother trying to unlock runes just playing the game. You need to specialize. Farming, chest runs, trading, whatever.
If you are able to unlock all your Major Runes that can be as good as unlocking a Superior, since you have to unlock them all in order. If you have to unlock a Vigor, for example, 1000 faction for a minor + 1500 for a Major + 2000 for a Superior. 2000 faction is easy to come up with during casual PvP play, while 4500 is considerably harder to come up with.

I unlocked 100% of my superior runes farming Tengu...I would imagine with the new chest system it would be quite simple to unlock every rune in the game in very little time. Just requires a good amount of investment capital and then find a chest that is an easy run from a portal.
mrmojo
I unlocked my superior vigor, swords, axe mastery and hammer just playing the game. I guess I've been very lucky. It's definitely easier to unlock them by playing pvp (especially gvg)
glockjs
99.5% pve .5% pvp on the account thats 100%...just have to find a good spot :/
Armstrong084
sorry what does pve stand for?
LiQuId StEeL
Played through the storyline 5 times, and only unlocked 2 Sups (Vigor and Absorbtion, if you can believe it). Farmed Tengus for a while, and have 5 Sups left... none of which do i need.

Faction is better than PvE for runes and upgrades.
PvE is better for skills, less so than it was before, but still better.
