Not getting anything
Luther Ajax
It really makes me made that now that this Sorrows Furnace update has taken place I dont get drops. I go farming outside of sorrows furnace in the outter mine part and get maybe 1 or 2 things......but from the chests. And then we venture inside to Sorrows Furnace and yet again I dont get any drops......I get usually around 5 drops whenever I go there and they aren't any good. I dont understand why this is happening. I dont have any henchies iwht me and im traveling in a group of 5 and im a w/mo. It just really makes this game suck since im fighting for nothing at all.
Fire Lord
It's all luck man. The first time i ventured into SF when it first launched, i got a purple crystalline sword. and for some reason, every chest in the kilroy quest was for me. everyone was mad. but when we did some bosses and other quests. i didn't get any drops. so it goes around man. no need to get mad over it.
p.s. you had a typo in your post. "makes me made" Mad*
peace.

Haha yeah thanks for pointing that one out man. Yeah I'm getting over it but it just makes it less fun because you really dont have much to go and do that for.
tankak47
yea, i haven't been getting many good drops since the patch, might just be me though...
Luther Ajax
I dont know, the only way I was able to get a green hammer was by buying it, the drops i get are gold and the drops other than that if I happen to get them are just little badges things and whatever I get out of the chests. I prefered the not knowing what your gonna get rare or common. But hey thats just me. I seemed to get better drops back then too.
Zuggy
The best drops are the chests. My best run I got 2 gold items 1 purple item and 1 green item from a boss. The keys are a definite money sink but it's an easy way to get good items.
Luther Ajax
True but it seems that people are so interested in the green items now that they don't want to buy the gold ones any more. And I mean that is understandable because those green weapons are almost perfect it seems.
Tactical-Dillusions
My advice if you aren't having good luck is to switch to a different character. I found that my monk was getting no greens at all.
I don't buy any more keys either and my gold has started to accumulate once more.
I just sell the keys i find to the merchant too.
Be lucky!

i'm still counting... this is my 23rd run into sorrows furnace with my monk. all my runs comprise of either farming runs (3 man, 4 man groups) or full out missions to completion.
not a single green yet.
not a single green yet.
unienaule
lol rough, well, kill all the bosses, and go visit other places inbetween. thats about all you can do. also, dont do it with henchies. sure, some people say they get drops, but the chances are LOWER.

Yesterday I found a vampric 5:-1 longbow but it was 14-27.
This morning, I found something that hit me like a ton of bricks
Vampric Half-Moon of Fortitude
Piercing Damage 15-28
Damage: 14% while health is above 50%
Life steal: 5
Life regen: -1
Health +30
Maybe I should salvage it for the bow grip?

Half moon is one of the best bows, 5/1 vamp is max and highly sought after near perfect dmg, and perfect +30 health, keep it or sell it like it is but to waste that bow salvaging it is nuts!
Back on topic:
They just patched it Friday to fix drops but I did not see any change, I did final assault, only one green dropped, then with another team killed every boss outside and inside no green drops (we had 2 hench healers is probably why) then I did final assault again with another group, this time 3 greens dropped 2 for the same person.
I think;
A, No matter what anyone else says on the subject my personal experience is my own proof that bringing henchs no matter how few kills rare/green drops.
B, I theorize that rare/green drops are not so random that the game only allows X amount to drop per hour and there are so many people farming for them they are just farmed out 90% of the time.
Ooma
For the past couple of weeks have I've been playing a mix of grouping with friends or just with henchies. The green drops seem truly erratic. In two weeks an average of 1 or 2 greens every 2/3 boss runs outside SF. Yesterday a group of us did outside and in SF with 3/4 greens but nothing dropped for me (except blues...oh and a black dye! first I've seen since pre!), yet today with 7 henchies 3 green drops on the one run only outside SF!
It really seems to be just luck.
I got a monk green that I didn't have a char for so I gave it away to someone, in the next few days I was receiving bows not only from this new friend but friends of hers also! I have now 4 green bows!
Now all I need is to get that damn Mr. Willcrusher to drop something...

That's funny. I've had two gold drops and a handful of purple since the day this game came out. Oh ok, shit happens. great RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing logic.

Got 2 greens tonight a Shadestone and some other focus item I can't recall. This running the circuit in Grenth's and up to Razorstone in Sorrow's. Had the usual mix of purples, blues and junk, don't do chests since I'm saving for 15k. This was with 7 henchies

Note to the OP - Stick with it.
If there's one thing human nature shows, it's that everyone thinks the grass is always greener.
Let's take a hypothetical party of eight people out on an SF farm run, clear GF and SF, and typically, 5 people will complain that the drops sucked, & 1 person will complain that the green/gold weapon that fell for them is not suitable for their class. (Pretty much the same with UW ecto runs, FoW runs, and almost any group farm activity. )
Now, the chances are that this hypothetical party had some pretty good drops across the board. Lots of gold, a few blues & purples, even a few keys, rares and greens. Chances are that most of the group will still be unsatisfied because they haven't noticed what they've got, but they're looking at what seems to drop for other people.
Also, it depends on what they're going for. If the group went to farm for green items, the might still be unsatisfied even if the drops were really good. It's because they're actually LOOKING for greens that the other items are not of interest.
Finally, with this hypothetical team, even if a few greens do drop, the one who will feel most satisfied is the first player to get a green drop. Even if a green drops for all the other players at one stage of the farm run, it will only be the first green to drop that actively gets noticed by the team. It also means that the player who got it has achieved their goal, and the rest haven't, and the chance of the same player getting another item during the run is unaffected, so they may end up with another one or two during the run.
I'm not directing this at anyone. It's just human nature.
Personally, if I'm farming in SF, I go with the attitude of "Hope for the best, expect the worst". I find that if I've got a "Must have a green drop or else" attitude, that I'll be disappointed. And everyone knows also that overfarming in one area reduces the drop rate for players, so if you think the drops are getting a bit shitty, go somewhere else. Perditions, UW, FoW, Desert are all good high level places to farm. Granted, you won't get Green items there, but you will boost your storage account, and chances are after a few days, when you go back to SF, you'll see a better quality of drops again.

No one has a right or any guarantee to green/gold drops, sometimes you'll get multiple ones in one drop then you'll playing for 5 days without a single one, get over it, thats random drops for you.
If you cannot handle that then play a game where you can predict exactly which boss will drop which item when...exciting stuff...

No BS, my first time in Grenth's, the first boss I killed dropped a green. Hmmph, this is going to be easy pickins'. Yeah right.
Shmash Witdaclub
I have received a total of 6 green items - 3 of them on one run through Grenths and Furnace.
The time I received three green items I was with a player group - for some reason I received 3 out of the 4 green items dropped.
I got the yakslapper, and wroths rod from killing the yakslapper guy - yup 2 green items in one kill. And then I got the green sword in SF - I was feeling pretty generous since I was already having a good run and I gave the sword to our other war (I am a hammer war and already have the good green hammer) who was a sword weilding warrior - Needless to say he greatly appreciative.
Yes I gave it to him - sorry for all of you that are grinding away trying to get it and would pay a billion trillion plat - I just felt like being one of the few nice guys out there.
I kinda think everyone should be somewhat generous with these itmes as it seems before long everyone will be weilding them... Then again I could be wrong.

Yeah.. its all about being lucky. Also i guess A-net can detect if you been farming at Sorrow Furnace for a long time so that it will restrict your drops. Like me, i got two green items from bosses drop and couple blue, purple, and gold stuffs from different enemies and chests but lately when i go back to SF, i get nothing but white regular items or just plain golds.

Hi everyone *waves*
I've been working on my own theory as to how drops of varying rarities work, whether white, blue, purple, or gold. For about a month, I've been taking all 4 of my characters out to the same locations, with an equal amount of henchman only, to see if there were any differences in the drops for each character.
Facts:
All 4 characters are level 20, ascended
All 4 characters are of different primary classes
All 4 characters have completed the final Hell's Precipice mission
All 4 characters do not have an equal amount of XP points
Elementalist/Mesmer 1,200,000 XP
Necromancer/Monk 400,000 XP
Ranger/Monk 350,000 XP
Warrior/Necromancer 220,000 XP
Thanks for being patient, here's my 'theory' and possible evidence:
My elementalist, under the same conditions and environment as the other 3 characters, hasn't received a gold (or even purple) drop for ages. All boss drops are either white, or blue (if lucky), and 75% of normal kills are simply money drops. Shiverpeak chests open with 90% purple armors of which 90% are minor runes, and 10% gold armors of which have all been major runes.
Now, with my necromancer or ranger, I get roughly 1-2 gold drops through an entire 'outting' (IOW not mapping back to town, but rezoning occasionally) and about 1-2 purple ones. Shiverpeak chests usually drop weapons rather than armors (runes).
And finally, my warrior warrants the best everytime now. Always 1-3 gold drops, 2-3 purple drops, and chests drop gold weapons about 90% of the time, and gold armors which I've ID'd having 4 superior runes now (in about 20 trips through Grenth's).
Again, thanks for your patience, but in a month's time, the experience for all my characters have stayed in that order of highest to lowest, and the rate of drops have also stayed the same for them.
I'm not claiming anything, just pointing out a possibility that the XP of the character has a decisive role in item drops and their values. I firmly believe that henchman vs. PCs has no factor, only the less in your group, the better your odds of actually getting a drop (but the value of the drops still remain the same regardless).
Thanks everyone

That would suck.. 'cause my monk(only char I really love.. or mebbe its his Fissure armor..) has 2 million XP now..

*agrees with Rahl*
As evidenced by the XP, my favorite is my elementalist. And she never receives quality drops, whether in a full henchman group, partial henchman group, all player group, or even alone.
My warriorette has managed to find 3/4 of my equipment I use for all 4 characters to this day (I started roughly the 2nd week GuildWars was released), and that's when I have 7 henchman going through Grenth's, and eventually Sorrow's Furnace.

I had maybe 1.5 mil XP when Razorstone dropped for me. Maybe 1.3 mil for the Cleaver. Various other pretty good items, gold and green, dropped inbetween. Before the update, I never found a quality rare weapon by myself. So the XP thing really isn't true, at least for me.
AnnaCloud9
Hi Savio
Could you post your PvE character's XP(s)? And also wondering if you have a chance, go to the same area, for the same amount of time, with each character and see if you have a difference? I wasn't including the Sorrow Green items as legitimate drops, as they've been deemed 'Sorrow/Grenth' specific area only.
Maybe there's a connection between all PvE character XP on a single account, and averaged as a 'mean' to distribute a single character's drop % and value? Perhaps the difference between your largest and smallest XP among PvE characters? I don't know really, but maybe if others tried this just once and gave feedback? Try using only henchman (not even 1 other PC) and use the same amount of henchman each time (the ones you choose to bring I haven't found as being a noticeable factor) for each of your characters. Use at least 3 shiverpeak keys on your way too.
I'm going to try again here shortly. So far, my warriorette is getting the best drops of all 4 of my characters since Sorrow opened, and all have been used regularly for the ongoing quests inside. And that's as of yesterday evening. Good luck and thanks

It's definitely luck, i have found three gold items: Worth's Holy Rod, Rago's Fire staff and Thorgalls Shield. Granted these aren't the best items, but it's definitely random.
I have also found plenty of Runes etc.

The notion of XP crossed my mind but i never really gave it much thought. It would explain why my monk (4.18 million) gets practically nothing and my ranger and warrior (roughly 500,000 i think) get average drops.
I also noticed that on the night of the SF update, the drops were amazing, even from chests but soon afterwards, it turned really bad.
I think Anet must be able to tweak the drops at their discretion, to avoid the economy being flooded with greens, golds and runes.
I may try a similar experiment using the xp theory myself. Nice job!
EDITED for incorrect XP on monk.

Maybe Anet could consider putting in more intelligent algorithms, so that drops are distributed more evenly - possibly rewarding players based on time played, and not just leave it to the old 'random luck generator'.
tankak47
this makes my 18th run into sorrow's furnace... i killed every boss, cleared almost the whole thing... NOT ONE SINGLE GREEN

I went into Grenth's with a PuG last night. The first boss we came to was Wroth, and he immediately dropped the Yakslapper (painful ). So ok, who's telling me that travelling with henchies isn't nerf'd.
Then I took five henchies, and guess what - first boss, Gargash, dropped the Stinger! So it is completely random, but I think it's just a little too random at the mo. They just need to improve the drop ratio a bit.

Is there really a basis for this observation?
I mean it could be psychological you know :P
Another possibility is you have been killing the same creature type too often (as opposed to your character having too much XP), that is something that is not addressed in the little experiment too.
