If you do the quest to find the farmer's prize Moa Bird you will discover the purpose of that room :-)

I just had a look at the full-screen pick and noticed "Quest updated - The Prize Moa Bird" in the corner so you obviously found that cavern by the same means I did :-)
I'm glad the game now contains some underground environments, gives it more variety.
