What absolutely burns me after some depth testing is what i have to assume is the intented penalty and discrimination of players who prefer or happen to need to use henchmen over real players. Prime example being that of Sorrows Furnace. In no way can they claim this being luck of the draw. Having done over 30 farming runs on various days and times with regular people and then over 30 runs solely with henchmen ranging in a group of 8 or 6, the henchmen group has significantly less drops and lower quality drops.
A group of regular players will find in grenth's footprint 2-4 shiverpeak chests within reasonably close distance. Within Sorrow's Furnace The chest count increases to about 3-6 I've even had 8. And very likely 1-3 green items to random people.
Do this same run only with henchies and shiverpeak chests... 1 maybe 2 if you travel a distance. Miner's chests 0-1 again if you travel into the bowels of SF to find it generally. Commonly getting blue items or purple that aren't particularly of any great use. And green items... don't even bother. In 30 runs and not nabbing a single one I have to say the chances of getting one with henchmen is 0. So unless ANet tweaks this area to become what it was intended to really offer I'd not suggest farming with any henchmen if you can help it. You'd be better off spending your time with even the worst of groups and still get better quality things.
Also taking into account keys cost 600-750. The average item within the chest has a base merchant value of maybe 60 gold and could probably stretch on average to maybe 600 selling to players. Yes on a rare occasion a drop offers something like a sup absorp or vigor like i have a once. But it still does not justify the cost of a key over all, not that I'm about to stop buying keys mind you. I think this concept is good but needs tweaking.
When this area was released it was announced that it would offer a wealth of items/gold. Except for the first week I've seen nothing of the sort to prove this being true now. There is no real luck of the draw, it's more than apparent things are scripted against those who would rather prefer doing their own thing from time to time.
I don't care if i don't get a green item every run or wicked items. But i would like to see Anet creating a better balance than what is currently in place for these drops in this specific area as well as others. I honestly don't plan on setting the game aside though I've seen a significant drop in my own extremely active guild members who are simply tired of the seeming constant nerfing of things. Anet has a great concept going for them, but they need to be careful not to change too much so dramatically now and again.

The OP is correct in his observations IMO.
I have also recently commented on the poor drops as opposed to when SF was released.
I am now 90% bored of the new areas, purely for that reason. It used to be great...gold drops guaranteed. Now it's all rubbish white drops and maybe a purple if you're lucky.
Last night in a 6 player PUG, we cleared the whole area of Grenths and all we had was purples. The only golds that my teammates got was from chests.
We got so annoyed, we went into SF instead. It was equally pitiful!
We got one green item from a boss deep within the furnace.
"One green between us for two and a half hours!!"
Most bosses only dropped ONE WHITE ARMOUR or a crummy enslavement stone, now wth is that?!

Yes, green drops have been reduced.
No, you don't need to start another thread.
