The State of the "Sell" Forum

Is anyone else overwhelmed by the amount of garbage that is posted in the "Sell" Forum? I am not talking about people that list 20 Gold/Green items, some of which may not be that desireable, rather, the people that post 1 purple item and say something like "I wont sel if the price is not high enogh."

I am begging all those who read this to take a second and think before you post... that purple, req. 13, 10% in stance Short Sword is probably not worth its own thread.

hahaha - you have to realize that you have experienced buyers and sellers on the forum, as well as guys who haven't been able to sell their stuff in LA or Ascalon City.

The sell forum is either a refuge of last resort for these people or is a PC forum to figure out whats a fair price in those meat markets.

Yeah, seen people posting some crap ass weapons w/ a high ass starting bid (that he/she wont even get half off of) and dare have the audacity to say. "Reserve the right to not sell if I don't like the price"

I think there is an easy solution: Create a fourth subforum within Ventari's Sell that is called "elite trades" or premium trades, or some such, and have an introduction that says:

The Premium section is for both WTS and WTB requests that are generally accepted to be trades valued in excess of 100K. These trades should primarily consist of perfect 15>50 or 15 always weapons, truly priceless shields, and caster artifacts and weapons with perfect mods. Some less than perfect stat items may be listed in this section if they are a particularly rare or valuable model, including Storm Bows, Eternal Bows, Crystalline Swords, Fellblades, and similarly rare items. Under no circumstances will green items or blue items (including mods) be permitted to be listed in this section. Although some green items and blue mods have been known to sell for over 100K, it is generally accepted that they will not remain that valuable for very long. The only blue items that may ever be sold in this section are items that are impossible to create in the game any longer, such as the Henge of Denravi +5 energy sword ("HoD Sword"). Auctions inappropriately placed in this forum will be moved to the regular sell forum by a moderator, but not until after you have been sufficiently mocked by the elite traders for posting in the wrong subforum. Thanks!

Most of us mods have been talking recently about implementing some major changes to the way business is done here on the forums. Without revealing to much I'd like to give you guys a sort of heads up as to what's to come. One of our biggest issues right now is fake bidders and non payers. Fake bidders drive me nuts. Most times they see one of the richer players here bid on an item and knowing we will go higher try and outbid us. Lately I've been calling peoples bluff but of course that does not solve the problem. Another issue we have are multiple thread posters, fake names, and fake in game bids. We have been talking about implementing an auction style sub forum kind of like rpg traders but with more ooomph and less crap. Anyway stay tuned for updates and please feel free to post suggestions/ideas in this thread untill I can make a sticky. We definately value our members opinions!

heres my idea, for what its worth.
collect the 5 richest people, or most affluent about trade values, or 5 mods who know about trading, or 3 people or whatever; just some sourt of "trade council" if you will of people who know what they are talking about, and make a seperate high-quality, high-price item ONLY section, that is only open to buyers/sellers with a certain trader rank; and the "council" has to approve anything sold in there.
obviously, if you dont want the hassle of this kind of beurocratic forum, you can just post your item in the regular section; but if you sell your item here, you know it will only be open to quality, trustworthy reputable buyers, and it's not going to get lowballed to death.

thats my advice.

bumping up, more discussion needed. I personally support a new forum for uber rare, perfect stats items(not necessary perfect req). Anyone else want to share your ideas?

like i said, i think we need a group of people to screen items before entered in such a forum, a place where people like myself can enter to buy items, without having to search through 400m pages of "WTS 11<50% purple trunchion of +21 fortitude!" only to have them ask for 50k.

just my 2ยข but I think it would be great if we could have sub forums based on either weapon color, class, or price. Not sure exactly but a way to narrow down the posts when you are looking to find something. See right now I'd say, myself included, 75%+ sells are image posts which you can't search for like gold flame artifact so you have to go to each post and look at the image and see if they have that item.

do ppl with lesser items have less right to trade?

more subforums would be smart, but dont make an "elite" and "not-elite-enough" section imo

like i said, with my idea only certain items and certain people would be allowed, it wouldnt estrict lower-grade items, as the regular sell forums would still exist; but it would allow people like myself, who dont intend on buying anything short of perfect to not have to search through volumes of useless crap to find that one special item that makes us a complete person.
and the purpose for the "pannel" of people who decide to allow certain items is simply to ensure such visitors that they will not ever see something that could be misconstrued as useless; and the purpose for only allowing people of a certain rank in, is that you ensure the buyer they will not end up with people who lowball the crap out of thier item.

as i see it the only issue is figuring out how the pannel of "judges," if you will, will work out. are items submitted and decided upon once a week, are they to simply be PMed and voted on? i dont know...its just a suggestion and the mods probably wont go for it anyway because of the work&coordination involved.
but hey...i could be wrong, in which case, GO MODS!

in my opinion. everyone has the right to post their items for sale. (crap or non crap. it's really the player's own opinion on it and it shouldnt be forced to what is considered "good" only for sale in here.)

*others can simply suggest that their price is too high and leave it at that. if no one is going to buy it anyways, trader will think twice if they want it sold or not.

*the main probelm is the control of fakers and ingame bidders because you just cant tell.

other than that, the guru subforums and its trade rules work well enough atm.

/cheers.

/I like the idea. but it would definitely need a Sticky and highly enforced rules to post in. you should see how many people get worked up about reqs. and debates on people posting what is considered, "Perfect" mods when their not or is,etc... and thread turns into a flamebait instead of a WTS one. hehe.

I think an ebay-style auction system would be best.

Sorted by categories, stats and mods.

I'm assuming you find these fake bidders via IP-logs and similar.

Could you limit their fake-bidding by requiring a minimum feedback count for users to submit 100k+ bids? It takes a good chunk of time to create feedback trails if:

1) The feedback thread URL's are unique - no duplication or blanks allowed, and only 1 feedback per other player counts

2) Bidder's account has been active for more than 1 month

3) Those submitting feedback from a new account should be flagged as suspicious until after 1 month probation.

Just some food for thought...

1. Reserving rights is a standard notion
2. Even after reading the sticky (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=44867) ppl still compain about prices. Don't yell about us asking "high ass" bids.

i think 2 seperate sell forums would be cool, one for 100k+ one for less than 100k. i think to stop fake bidding have have a rule that if someone wins a bid and dont pay, they have to pay that to someone poor, or mabye a mod or somethin (not nef lol) or they get banned, then they would think twice about puttin up fake bids.

I think that if someones going to sell In-game, and they get an offer over the current high in the fourms, they should post a pciture for it to be relavent. I would also like to see that sellers should contact highest bidder before selling ingame.
If they dont follow the rules, a probation could be nice.
