I have been experimenting with pet builds a for a few days, using al kinds of profesion combinations with ranger (for the pet) in it. I've found a combination that went pretty well in the competition arena, but would probably get even better with an orginized 8v8 PvP team.
The basic build skills I had where:
Charm Animal
Comfort Animal
Call of Haste
Energizing Wind
Balthazar's Aura
That way I could use BA on my pet every time it recharges (18 secs because of EW), and because my pet was faster than whatever he chased, most of the time, all 10 strikes of BA hit.
Of course, my skill bar is a bit full now and to get good defence (they go right at you when they notice when your spamming BA) I have to use some more defencive skills.
The best side of the defence is that the nasty conditions or hexes are directed on you(backfire, empathy, weakness, blind), you can just ignore and avoid the bad effects and let your pet do the attacking.
This build will get more usefull in a pet, 8 player, PvP team. I think the team will do best with:
5 R/Mo
1 N/??(not decided, as long as its necro primary)
2 Mo
Every Ranger can spam BA on their own pet while only 1 person has to use Energizing wind (or 2 in case the player gets killed.
You can leave some of the defence to the monks so you wont have to put more than 1 skill slot for defence (a stance or Shield of judgement).
From what I heared Otyugh's Cry lets all the pets attack the same target (not tested, will need feedback for this), meaning that other rangers can attack a second character (I bet pretty much every one knows what a pain a few decent rangers with distraction skills can do by now). The second target will get hexes cast on him/her/it by the necro, think of Barbs, Mark of pain, Rigor Mortis and Weaken Armor for a lot of extra damage (including mark of pain AoE dmg). The necro would of course also summon minions/fiends from every corpse for both extra fire power and to prevent well of profane (can also be another corpse exploiting spell, but minion raising will match the theme )(I can only imagine the dmg al those bone minions called from pets with death nova on them could do when they all get eaten with taste of death). The necro will also be the targetter for the non-pets, as he knows on what person he has cast what hex, you dont really have to target the target for the pets if Otyugh's Cry works like I think it does.
skills I didn't mention but think that also could be usefull in this build:
Signet of Judgement(E)
Scourge Healing
Strength of honor
Call of Protection(when it really is plural like in the description)
Ferocious Strike(E)
Fertile Season
Revive Animal
Primal Echoes
Predatory Season
Oath Shot(E)
Concussion Shot
Greater Conflagration(E)
Choking Gas
Thats pretty much the basics. I'm posting this build here for feedback, I dont have a guild that I could try this out with (would like to, haven't met one yet) so I can't tell for myself. Perhaps some guilds who read this could improve it, see what skills are best at complimenting the intentions of this build (massive AoE dmg and interuption on 2 or more different targets that cannot run away!!!), and tell me how it worked.(if this build is already being used or tried, I apoligize. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything) This build would need a lot of teamwork like invitations on a certain order ("so was my pet the second or third from above?") and who brings what skills.
Ranger's smiting pet
Shadow Devil
Yukito Kunisaki
I made a build similar to this with two modes of play. PvE tanker pet and PvP remote controlled warrior...
I also noticed recently that pets are changing targets faster, they just land one 'last ditch' attack on their current target before they switch to your new target [the one you shot at]. Still slower then henchies, but faster than before.
The Beast master build: ala Remote Controlled Warrior. I like it.
