OK, I know. It's been nerfed, it's just soooo last month, it's not as good as it was....

I'm still building one, just for the sake of seeing what all the fuss is about.

So, I've read the threads, assembled the skills, obtained the runes, and found a nice place with a few mountain trolls to practice on.

I got pwned.

It seems that I'm not doing something right at the beginning. At the moment, my Mo/W has Zealots Fire, Balths Aura, Balths Spirit, Essence bond, Healing Breeze, Prot. Shield, mending, Bonetti's Defence. - I got 16 prot, 15 healing, all the rest in smite. (with the full 200). In other words, the complete cookie cutter build.

It seems that you're supposed to start a pattern of attack & defense off by casting mending+Essence Spirit+Balths spirit, wait for your en to top up again, then aggro.

Here's where I come unstuck. Shield first (obviously), then what? How do I get the momentum going, and how do I keep it?

Prot shield ? You mean Protective spirit I guess ?

That's the one....(Looks like a squashed blue buddha's face on a white background), basically the Prot bond substitute (Damage=10% of health, and needs to be spammed every 24 seconds, or something like that...)

Too much protection, first of all. You don't need max. Just have enough where Protective Spirit stays up around 20 seconds. That's the only protection skill you will be using. Have enough heal for +9 on breeze, and have smite around 12. The rest you want in divine favor...this gives you some hp boost when you breeze/etc. You need it sometimes when being mobbed heavily. If you have a few points left over, stick 'em in Tactics and give Bonetti's a little more run time.

Ditch the mending. It's cutting into your energy regen. The key is to have breeze on at all times...mending is useless and doesn't do anything when you have breeze activated anyways (which you should always have on, like I said). I stuck in Mark of Protection in case my Breeze get's disabled (damn rockshots...and occasional troll, etc.).

Ditch zealots fire. It doesn't do crap now (pretty much). Drop in Symbol of Wrath instead for a 5 second smite that's more powerful than Balth. Aura.

Here's where I come unstuck. Shield first (obviously), then what? How do I get the momentum going, and how do I keep it? Since you are no longer using mending, start by casting EB and BS when you zone in. When you approach a mob, cast Protective Spirit right before agro. When they get close, breeze. After they surround, I like to drop the Symbol of Wrath first and then hit 'em quick with the Balth Aura. Double smite power.

Whenever you see breeze and/or Protective Spirit flash, recast or say saiyonara (sp? lol). If you lose PS, you're dead. If you lose breeze, you'll be dead quick...but not instantly if you still have PS up.

Bonetti's Defense is your best friend, and your main source for energy renewal/blocking. Cast it as soon as it's ready. Remember if you use ANY skill under Bonetti's D, it ends. Sometimes you may want to breeze at the end of Bonetti's, or cast Symbol of Wrath towards the end, if there are alot of disablers/interrupters around.

Following this outline, just keep breezing, spiriting, and smiting. You should be good.

Oh another thing - the more enemies on your ass, the better. You need alot of monsters hitting you to keep your energy up. It's alot easier to die when fighting one or two if fighting 10 or 20 (due to lack of energy).

If you end up dying, and have 1 health, start taking off armor/tats. This should boost you back up. Start with the rune you have two of (because you should have 5). Then, pick from there. The healing is the most important...you need that regen.

This is my 55 monk build, and it still works great.

A few things that could help:

-Place a few points in tactics to bing Bonetti's to 6 seconds.
-In place of Mark of Pront, consider Healing Hands. Same duration, same net effect, 20 second faster recharge.
-Alternativly, consider Shield of Judgment as an elite. The knockdown will greatly slow down incomming attacks, while dealing considerable damage.
-Guardian is a neat skill for a self-heal. 5s 44% block, something to consider.
-Bonetti's ends at the END of a spell's cast time. This is big, it means that casting of SoW can be started while Bonetti's is up, and the 75% block will pretect from interupts. If interupts are a threat, cast Healing Breeze with Bonetti's Up.
-Blessed Aura might be a worthwhile skill to consider in place of Essense Bond. With Bonetti's and Balth's Spirit your energy is quite healthy. More time added to the duration of Breeze Balth's Aura, Healing Hands, Mark of Pront, Pront Spirit, etc can be a lifesaver. Or just boost your damage.

Try my "lazy man" 55 build:

Prot Spirit
Healing Breeze
Bonetti's Defense
Bath's Aura
Zealots
Mending
Blessed Aura
Bath's Spirit

Points:
12 Healing
16 Smite (+1 Smite Hat)
11 Prot
8 Divine
3 Tactics

Ok I use three hats here (Cheap stuff from Lions Arch). Switch to +1 Healing Hat gives you 13 Healing so +4 Mending. Then Switch to +1 Divine hat and it gives you 25% Blessed Aura. Then Switch to +1 Smite Hat and cast Bath's Spirit for Max Adrenaline gain when hit. Leave this hat on obviously for max smite damage.

Use a 20% enchantment pommel on your sword of choice (+5 Energy Henge sword is optimal) and a 10% Furious mod is nice too but optional. This makes your enchantments last 45% longer (Breeze, Prot Spirit, Bath's Aura, Zealots Fire, etc.) which is very nice. You pretty much will have Bath's Aura on all the time with this setup. It will run out right before the cooldown is completed (almost 15 secs!).

If something is there to interrupt you (Rockshot Devourers) hide behind Bonettis before you cast. Get close to distrating monsters so they die first. Spam Healing Breeze and Prot Spirit constantly just to be safe. If Breeze or Prot Spirit ever gets interrupted and shutdown for 20 seconds just run like crazy!

If you need a demo of this build I'll be glad to show you. I/G name is Levi Garett. Happy farming!

Triple X (XXX)

try this:
zealots fire, mending, bathazarsa spirit, essence bond, protective spirit, healing breeze, reversal of fortune, Bonetti's Defense

attributes healing at 9? whatever gets breeze to 7 and mending to 3
smiting max
protection 9? enough to keep prot spirit up 3 times longer than recharge time

rest of attributes dont matter at all

load up all your maintained enchantments prot bond before battle,
then just spam the rest away using bonetti's when low on energy.

this exact build works flawlessly in augury vs hydra's and the more you aggro the faster they die cuz energy is allways full with 10 or more attacking you.

after you get comfortable with this and 20 hydras swatting away at ya swap bonnettti's with shield of judjment and drop those 20 hydras in just seconds.

I'm running that same build, but with an E/Mo (didn't wanna make a monk but rather emulate it). Farming griffons and Hydras is pretty easy (just those damn rockshots mess me up sometimes) - but in UW I can't seem to kill the aatxes effectively. They Either knock me down, or I start bleeding and things get ugly.

I do however use mending, and also healing breeze (not as potent as a monk's since I only have 8 Healing Prayers- 8Healing, 11 Smite and 10 Prot in fact).

Anybody knows an effective way to mess up those damn aatxes ? - With my crappy build I mean =)

Uh also a question - with Balth Spirit, does the amount of energy received increase like adrenaline with more ranks into Smiting ?The lack of Bonetti's is sorta annoying x.x

Where the HELL do crystallines drop ? ... uh ... sorry, nvm o.O
