PvP? Could someone post a thread plz

I did my first PvP playing yesterday in the 4 X 4 random arenas, and getting my ass owned. I'ts obviously a new ballgame for me and there's a lot of stuff I don't understand. Is there a link somewhere to find out how to call targets, good builds to use etc, as I can't seem to find anything on the main web site specifically for this.

I also have to say, sometimes I wish there was a fee for playing this game, as the people I've incountered in the random arenas are even worse than people in the PvE part of the game. Maybe if there was, it would cut down on some of the incredibly rude and obnoxious people playing this game.

Anyway now that I've vented a bit on that, I appreciate any replies.

fezz, there are really really really rude people out there. I know, they seem to gravitate to me.

Are you playing a PvP-only character? Or are you using your PvE character? Which arena are you playing? Which class?

To cycle through your opponents, use the [ and ]. For closest enemy, I click C. To call a target, ctrl + spacebar(or skill) while focusing on a target. To attack the called target, click T or the little box next to the person who called it.

In random arena - and this is the beauty of it - you never know who you are going to face. So it is really hard to make a build that will counter everything.

You need to bring skills that will manage your energy well, hurt people who are "moving," interrupt people who are casting, slow down people who are attacking with melee/arrows. Probably a good thing to bring at least one self-heal of some kind, because you are of course never guaranteed a monk to heal you.

If you go into the "build discussion" section of the forum, you'll see lots of threads on different classes for PvP.

ctrl double click to call - either on their character or their name. faster to do it on their name of course rather than having to look for them on the screen.

tab to sort through targets
t to attack called target
c to switch to closest target

if you are new to the game and would like a character build post your classes.

if you want a group build I cant help you there as the random arenas are random

as for the jerks in the random arenas - you'll have that - sorry, some people have pathetic lives and fine joy in acting in such ways

T - targets called target. you now have hit spacebar after T to actually attack.

Try team arenas. You can actually make a 4v4 build. As for the morons who have nothing better to da than to be a pain in the ass? Ignore 'em.

I've been playing PvE for a while now, but haven't done PvP. I think there is an arena newar Ascalon, but I'm not sure how to get to it. Do you have to talk to someone or something?

Bulldog, the Ascalon arena has a level cap of 10, but you can get to it by talking to the arena guard, found near Ellie Rigby inside the city itself. Hold down alt key to find the arena guard.

When you reach level 11 (unless you are on a killer winning streak) you will “level out” of Ascalon and the next place you can play is at Yak’s Bend, level cap 15. Then it’s on to Lion’s Arch, but I would definitely wait until you are level 20 to play there, or you’ll get smoked really quick.

I use the bracket and back slash keys for my targeting. Basically, my right hand is my movement/targetting/camera hand, and my left is for hitting skills, space bar, and calling/target hitting.

It's a good set-up because unless your a midget with really small hands, your not really stretching them out too much. And my set-up spreads the keyload out evenly between both hands instead of the left doing most of the work. You will find yourself being a little faster this way too.

To the OP and anyone else new to pvp. DO NOT go into the novice arenas with the goal of winning. Got there and spend a few hours just fighting. Don't worry about wins or losses. Try and observe as much as possible. When you die, click one of your teammates and watch what they do.

Just keep on fighting and you will start to see the big picture, and the action will begin to slow down as well. And don't get discouraged by the tards and aholes. There are less and less of them as you move up to the harder arenas and the high end pvp places.

Another good thing for tips on pvp is get to know who the really good pvp'ers and guilds are and listen to what they say on the boards. They will give out a lot of good info and you can trust the reliability of their information.

DO NOT ever listen to a person who does not pvp or say they have some uber build they came up with on paper but haven't tested it in actual gameplay.

Oh, I almost forgot, always always always give a gg when the match ends no matter the result. Just because someone else is a jerk doesn't mean you should stop being a good sport
