I have been playing as a W/Mo, and when using henchmen, I notice that Alesia just loves to charge into combat. The problem is, Alesia doesn't know she isn't a Warrior. She gets into the fray and dies quickly. I haven't noticed this so much with the Protection henchman, just the Healer henchman.
Also on the topic of healers, they tend to charge toward another henchman when that henchman falls in combat. The problem is that the healers don't "look both ways" before running into traffic, and often times die themselves.
When monsters get bottled in a choke point, that would be a great time for Orion to use a nuke spell. I have noticed, however, that Orion usually defaults to attack during the bottleneck and doens't nuke until only 1 or 2 enemies are remaining.
Suggestions for Henchmen AI Tweaking

I have to agree with you here, the henchmen AI is terrible. Don't get me wrong, they can be helpful, but mostly they don't follow their roles.
I have noticed that after Stephan and Thom run in, Alesha is usually right behind them. Not at a safe distance either, she's usually RIGHT behind them, and the mosters react accordingly. She's ends up spending alot of time healing herself, Thom and Stephan get into real trouble, and if you're not quick enough, they all end up dying.
Making the areas harder is one thing, but they should not be harder because the henchmen are stupid.
The devs shold improve thier AI, then adjust all the areas accordingly to make them true challenges.

I'd be satisfied if, in the Ring of Fire quest, the henchies had enough sense to get out of a flaming lava pool.

Change it so that healer henches only use healing touch on themselves and ta-da. Exponentially fewer instances of tanking mages.

I'd like to target a distant enemy and then send Devona or Adian to go aggro it.
Or to be able to direct henchies to targets - even if I'm dead
