I hear people doing runs from lions arch, hell even ascalon city, to droknars. For me, this took nearly two weeks to get there playing several hours a day. How are these people attempting(possibly doing) runs like this? I have been considering doing one with my necro, but would like to know if I'm going to have to leave my game on for an entire day.

This is what you do.. have someone run you from ascalon to yaks.. Takes 15 minutes, probably less. Then have someone run you to beacons perch from there (I've done this run a few times with my ranger.. ranger running is fun, 15 minutes or so). Then from beacons have someone run you to drok's.. this usually costs money and sometimes its hard to get a decent runner.

I do runs for tips to beacons from yaks when im bored.. I've never ran to yaks from ascalon though. I'd imagine its not too difficult, but there are alot of gargoyles with all sorts of hexes up near there. If you wanna PM me in game i might be able to get you to yaks, and i'd definitely be able to get you to beacons.
John Waffletord is my IGN btw

ok, next question, what about all those missions? Does the runner have to run those also?

No you'll have to come back to those later when you're higher level. For the moment though they aren't important and are out of the way for most runners.

The main reason people get ran to drok's is for the armor. You get that armor and you will have no problem taking a lot of damage until you're past kryta probably. This makes all the boring Ascalon and Northern Shiverpeaks missions easier. Think about it like this. Say you have an ele that just got out of pre-searing and you get someone to run you to drok's. You go from armor with level 5 to armor with level 60. The ascalon armor is level 15 for eles i think. Thats a huge difference.

Well I still hope ANET won't nerf these paths people run on. Or i doubt even they could, but it is just a way of cheating, and i agree with john, they just wanna do it for droks armor. But from toa or LA u can run from there to sanctum cay, which is the last mission before desert. So they can get ascended at like level 14... Because people can run through the desert missions now.. or they just have guildies help them with everything. So basically alot of them ascend at low levels. And actually i have done it once. My monk ascended at level 15 hehe

I see no problem with it. It creates a good income for some people, and its a way to cut out the boring parts while trying to level up a new char.

Anet said they dont plan to nerf it either.

...

And finally, we are considering adjustments to the design of future installments of the game that will also reduce or eliminate the perceived need for running.

There is nothing wrong with running or being ran. After all there is only so many times a person can play through the game before it becomes boring. I personally played through with my first 2 characters, but when it came to my 3rd I got ran everywhere.

I do some small time running for people, ascalon to piken... have tried but have not completed a run from piken to grendich. The path is pretty easy from grendich to yaks I find. Now Yaks to Ice Caves is tough... those ice goloms cast skills that make you crawl in your tracks... Ice caves to beacon is like running with the bulls, lots of fun. I ran myself from beacon perch to lion's arch. Then running with a guild mate, ran all the way to sanctum cay which we then beat and moved on to the desert. I have all the mission locations for ascending at the desert but I know I'm missing a lot of skills. So I'm back at lion's arch and doing those missions in order. Also I got Drok armor and Grotto chest piece (15k gladiator set) Which really helps out there.

I have done some small runs for guild members, and have nothing against the Drok run for those that want better armor in the middle game. What I do not like is people who get Drok's armor to use in Ascalon arena.

..... just my opinion

There are runners that do mission for you by running you to the objective for each of those mission. And it does cost some golds to hire one runner.

I still laugh at people trying to hire a runner to complete the Thirsty River mission... lol But I have a lot of respect for those who can successfully complete the Drok run... if it was easy, we'd all be doing it. Of course I only use that armor in PvE as I don't like PvP much... sure its fun... but all the same, not my cup of tea.

I dont think i've found these 'shortcuts' I should probably go back and gather a group of henchies to do some exploring. All i've found right now is the direct paths, and some of them aren't even directly to and from the missions.

The biggest shortcut is when you go south from beacons perch to droknor's forge.

Try that with henchies from beacons. You wont make it past the first mob.

They're all level 22+

Then if you somehow make it with the henchies past a few mobs, you'll run into a few frost wurms. Then mobs bunched together.

I don't think many normal level 20 6 man groups could even make it.

You can get from Temple of Ages to Fisherman's Haven and on to Santum Cay by simply traveling towards the bottom of your map. That and the "proper mission way" is the only way there. Regardless of where you go, the only path to the desert is through santum cay. Droknar can be reached by completing the desert or running from beacon perch. There are two routes to the new War Camp... Rankor or Citadel (citadel is closer)

Get some good hench and just start clearing areas and going through portals. There are a few areas you'll pass through with no real reason to be there other then they are indirect routes to somewhere.

From beacons to drok's? I didn't have beacons with my first character since I played through the game without runs, and my 2 friends and I went from drok's to beacons NO problem. And then went north from there to get to Grenth's Footprint from snake dance.

So you didn't play the missions through on your 1st character? How sad...

I say this .. because unless they have changed the game... doing the Frost Gate mission ends with you being placed in Beacon's Pearch. So the only way you could have gone through with your first character without getting Beacon's Pearch on your map.. is either by being "run" to Kryta.. or making your own way there, bypassing Frost Gate and//or borliss Pass mission's..

but hey, maybe they changed that and it didn't used to drop you into Beacon's Pearch.. *shrugs* True? Or did you just avoid the mission's and run yourself to Kryta? And why?

My husband and I do runs alot from ascalon to the desert then to all the desert towns for guildies. The only mission we complete is Sanctum Cay and we run it also. We do drok runs to sometimes but they are flippin hard! LoL

I used to be really anti-run. Then I realised the missions are super boring and ultimately a waste of time.

Frost Gate still drops you off a Beacon's Perch... so yeah he must have either ran or walked from Yak's Bend right past Beacon Perch to Gates of Kryta... a real shame... Bolis Pass was a very fun mission.

And yes you can skip all of ascalon by getting a run to lion's arch and starting there. But I advise against it for 1 simple reason... instead of earning the skills and saving skill points for later... You'll be forced to buy the skills you missed and waste a lot of skill points and coin in the process.
