A Petition for Public Disclosure
Slade xTekno
Those who suffered from the awful GW crash around 1.00p today [05.01.05] are probably wondering, what went wrong? What were they trying to fix? I have even heard the rediculous but viable claim that ANet intentionally released a buggy patch to test their report system [which, BTW didn't work for me. My mouse cursor doesn't show in the window].
Because of this, I would like to start a petition for ANet to set up a page that lists exactly what the patches / updates / new builds are adding or modifying in the game.
It's not the polite red spammage of the "A new build of Guild Wars has been released" or the fact that I'm in a quest [I can just finish it, then exit]. It's the fact that I'm letting ANet load stuff onto my computer that I don't even know the details of.
Please sign if you feel the same way I do.

I'd just like people to /sign if they want a list of what exactly the patches do.

they are making constant running changes as they go from mini patches we will never notice to adding new content.
to list everything would require more time reading it than playing the game
wow and swg can list patches because they wait weeks or months to fix something while this is fixed on the spot
Slade xTekno
I said a page that we can see what the patches do. You don't have to go read it if you don't want to.

i dont wanna know what a 15kb stream adds, but if they're gonna stream 1mb or more then yeah i'd be kinda intrigued. even if its just "added new area: not telling you where
"

WolfpackEE
i don't mind them not telling of new areas. But changes to UIs, or new features should be reported so that we'll know abou it.

I could see this. Not as a consipiracy thing, their not going to download something to destroy their clienteles computers. And if they did, they'd never tell us.
But just like, what minor bugs tehy fixed so we don't have to worry about that, or so forth.

I'd like to see a patch info page. Definatly.
Or better yet - a text file that is added to the GW directory. All they'd have to do is a small update file for a .txt and add one line of text for each new thing.

I agree actually.
Every single game that I have ever played has a 'changelog' attached to ANY update.
GW seems to get daily updates... which is fantastic!.. I love updates.. but I HATE not knowing what the update is..
if we dont get something to tell us what the change is it will quickly get annoying, especially as the pride of our nation is at hands...
"Sorry, the americans lost that important match because the Koreans figured out what had changed before anyone else.."
Devs, get real.

I would like this as well. Like "Removed called targeting."
or nerfed Ithas Bow.

I whole heartedly agree. Sure, ANet is neat with it's invisible patching... but I want to know *WHAT* they are patching.

Yeah I think it would be useful to let players know what's being fixed/hot fixed/implemented. Since patches are seamless and instant, it's great to know that things are being fixed immediately but I would love to know WHAT is being fixed or has been changed or whatnot. If ArenaNet doesn't want to have an official web site, that's fine, but perhaps a pop-up or something in game that lists everything? Or perhaps just the major things?

Hmm.
At this point, I doubt they're making any changes you would care about (=player combat systems), but rather technical systems patches (fixing i/o errors, faulty graphics, etc). Server and client stability stuff.
And hey, technically they don't have to tell you squat, unless they want to. Not telling you leads to cabalesque conspiracy theories, telling you leads to "omfg you nerfed <>, I quitz0r!!!one11!1!111". No-win situation either way.
Not saying that's a good idea, they should add some patch notes somewhere, at least for major changes. I really don't care about 'fixed i/o feedback loop on port 270' though.

If you think that this is buggy or unstable, or if you think this is a bad release, I'd like to refer you to WORLD OF WARCRAFT. The patch history of that game has been so horrible that since day 1 they've had to give out free days of gameplay because the game has been unplayable for long stretches of time.

also, whats wrong with debating changes?.. isnt that what forums are for.. yes, people can be blunt or use foul language.. but we are all guilty of that.
Feedback seems to be what makes this game thrive, thats what they say, but feedback they wont get if it seems it falls on deaf ears, which would be a tradgedy if in fact they did listen but forgot to tell us!! even something very tiny.

Yay! My message was too short so I added this.

An update page...nice. I'm impresssed with ArenaNet so far. If they keep up this kind of quality of service..those other MMO companies had better be concerned.
