i would get an IPOD, IPOD mini, or IPOD nano lol. they kick ass and are reliable, ahve great sound. IPOD is definitly most space for music. the ipod mini can look cool if you like any of the colors. the nano is defiintly cool to. the normal IPOD can have lots of things like colored covers etc. to look cool. another thing is accesories, im not sure what kind of ipod can use certain accesories but you might wanna look into that

I have to throw my hat in the ring for the ipod. The "total package" of the ipod+itunes for management/content is great. The ipod by itself is a very good mp3 player, but once you factor in itunes (for ripping, burning, web radio, podcasts, video casts, music purchases, etc. etc.) it is unparalleled. You can, of course, do most of these things in other ways, but not from a single, polished and unified application.

If you plan on downloading music from any legal source besides the itunes music store, an ipod will not play it.
If you plan on downloading music from the itunes music store, only the ipod will play it.
If you plan on downloading music from illegal sources, I hope hyenas eat your kidneys.

2. You can burn to a CD and play the music anywhere. You can even re-rip the music in some other format (mp3, etc.) if you really want to.
3. Mmmm fava beans.
