Questions about ranger

Well Ive played GW for about a month now and I want to make a ranger I already got him to lvl 4 but anyone have tips on building one?Like whats a good second profession?

Also is it best to keep one pet and level it or get newer one later on?Are some pets better than others are do they all have weaknesses and strenghts?

Your second profession should compliment your goal. If you want to cause as much damage as possible, Elementalist is a choice. If you want to eventually be an interrupter or energy drainer, Mesmer has a few goods skills to compliment your arsenal of bow attacks. If you want to be a beast master with a pet, some people like to have a Warrior secondary. If you just want to be an all-around ranger, Monk is good for a re-usable Resurrect skill. If you want to provide good support to your party members and weaken your enemies a bit before you start your barrage of arrows, Necromancer is a great choice with its Curses line of hexes.

What is it you hope to accomplish, Satde lancer? Damage, interruption, weakening your targets, or a little bit of everything?

Right now I think the best ranger is the one running degen, or semi disrupt + dmg (kindle and double shot)
