I really hate the nation/race bashing that goes on. Nearly every match I play, several of my party members make racist comments with impunity. It has to end. NCSoft needs to start suspending player accounts for this. If they do that, I'm sure much of it will stop. Also, remove the real-world regional nonsense. That serves no purpose and hinders multinational party making.
I play games to get away from the ethnonationalism and racism of society, not to see it even more. It really draws me out of the game. And I can't imagine parents wanting their children playing a game where racism is an accepted norm (it's NEVER condemned by anyone). So this is also a potential sales issue.
Furthermore, I don't understand why anyone would want to be identified with their nation in a video game, especially one that is fantasy-based. I had no idea that Korea, Europe, and America exist in fantasy worlds. Are they provinces of Ascalon? Orr? What? One of the best things about an online game is that you can shed yourselves of such labels and befriend people from all over the world. But Guild Wars works against that. Let people fight for the supremacy of their Guild, not their real-life region, and certainly not their race. I would like to see multinational guilds, but with this current setup, it's more likely people will refuse to cross regions out of some juvenile hatred of different nations and/or race.
NCSoft should remove the regional competition aspect and focus solely on guild conflicts.
I'm really enjoying this game, but I can see myself getting very weary of the constant nation-bashing that goes on in every single one of my pvp matches. Weary of hearing it, and weary of having to police my own party members to get them to shut up and play the game.
End the real-world regional battle system

Comparing the Olympics to this game is valid when looking at what they both do. They both emphasize what nation can mold the best athletes (or avatars). This then leads to hatred. After all hatred is bred through competition.
No such thing as the "korean" race, or the "european" race. Race is a social term dirived to seperate a group. So using using racism, and race only further reinforces so called "racism", that is really nationalism in your post.
So if we really want to get rid of hate in this game we will have to get rid of the game, because it only creates hatred through compitition.

I like the competition, makes it more interesting, and increases desire to succeed.
A few racist comments is not going to destroy that, if you cant handle that u need to grow up. Just dont listen to them for god sake.
and, i would never let my guild fight to become leader, im leader. thts tht.
so they need someone to fight.

My problem is that the periodic display of national names ruins that suspention of disbelief that makes things like movies and video games immersive. Every time I see the words "Team America" I get jolted out of the fantasy world. It would be the same if I were watching Star Wars and at one point all the main characters stop at a Starbucks for a mocha latte-- it just doesn't belong.
