Reputation?
A NERD1989
i think they should make reputatioon when you do good things for free and stuff people can give you rep+ or if they dont like you they can give you rep- and so on. so you know if some one has lots of +rep they can be trusted

Hmm, it's a good idea, but easily abusable. People could go around doing "good stuff" for a week, with the aim of ripping somebody off when they have enough +rep.
Gerbill
Or people could just give other people -rep.. just for the fun of it.
it should be gained in like a more difficult way.. so that you'd actually have to do quite a lot to get it, but you can lose it quite easily, but it shouldn't be up to other players to decide

A reputation system would be much easier to implement if trade was an automatic and scam-free process, such as an ingame auction.
With regard to running and doing good deeds, i think it would be a real pain for the devs to create. It's a fun idea in principle but realistically, i don't think it would be worth the hassle that it would cause the developers.

it would be abusable, and hard to program

Ever play a free side-scrolling MMORPG called Maple Story?
It has a fame system. Basically, you can only fame up or fame down someone once a day (must be level 15 first). If you fame someone up, you can't fame another person up the same day. There is some pieces of equipment that have a fame requirement. Do you know how this system turned out for the community? Fame is used simply as a currency, a way for newbies to make quick gold by faming someone up for say 2k. There are few people who randomly rate down others, but that is few.
The point is, the system would have no meaning - it would simply be another form of currency.

I don't like the reputation idea. People who have a LOT of friends can make each other famous. Those who just give extra gold after they farm can be made famous. I think it'd make a lot more people arrogant. And give others undeserved bragging rights.
I help people wherever/whenever I can. I don't ask people to say, hey tell your friends about me, blah blah blah. And I'm sure none of you do too.
It's just going to be a popularity contest that I don't want to see. It's a game. And I take games seriously because it takes me away from my real life that I really don't want to be in. I prefer not see high school all over again.
