The second is katakana which expresses words used in japanese that have been borrowed from foreign languages. However they are still limited by the pronounciation vowels of the japanese language, therefore adopted words only sound partially similar to the actual word borrowed.
For example, "Orange" is written as "Orenji" and pronounced O (as in of) + ren (ren and stimpy) + Gee (As in G-Shock).
That explains why "The World" is written by Asplode as "Za Warudo"
I'v filled half the void by explaining what the word in his picture means. But i still dont understand the significance of it and I'm japanese, so maybe its not culturally related :P
Sorry for being long winded. My two cents Actually the japanese have more than 2 scripts
Hiragana
Katakana
Kanji
& Roomaji ( phonetics )

Sorry babe, you lose.
Kanji isn't really a script, nor is it really Japanese. It's the chinese character system they stole. I suppose this is a bit nitpicky, but calling it a script is silly because it is not a phonetic alphabet- thus why China took over the Japanese Hiragana and Katana in Firefly (Omg I'm such a nerd).
Roomaji is not considered a Japanese script- it's just the English approximations of the sounds. Really, it's not a Japanese script, no more than katakana is an English script.
Oh, I'm such a nitpicky loser. >>
