When I play me/e I have it like this.
Backfire
Cry of Frustration
Empathy
Chaos Storm
Fire Storm
Echo
Meteor Shower
Glyph of lesser energy
Lets face it people will pick up an elm over you since mesmers do not have enough energy and the superior fire runes.
You can use your mesmer skills to your advantage by blocking casters with backfire and cry of frustration.
Empathy is good for warriors
You can use the mesmer skill ECHO (IT IS AN ELITE AND YOU HAVE TO CAP IT http://www.xennon.co.uk/eliteskills/ ) to create 2 fire storms or dulicate anything you want.
I have
9 Fast cast
12 Fire
Rest in domination + I have superior domination.

Just wanted to add that Runes DO NOT stack. So having 5 fast casting runes in your 5 peices of armor will only give you +1 fast casting.
bigfatguy
runes don't stack??crap i just spent loads of money on runes for my warrior and i gots loads of them twice

...
sorry for you, if you have a minor, major and superior rune in your armor, only the superior rune on your armor will be counted.
Different for energy bonuses: if you have +5 energy on 3pieces of your inventory, you will get a total of 15.
Sadly Health runes dont stack too. Only counts for item bonuses.

Hmmm. A mesmer shouldn't be set up like that. I ran a Me/Mo Smiter and realized the uselessness of it. Then I changed it to a Me/Mo Prot Monk and realized that a regular monk is just alot better. Then I opened my eyes to the wonderful world of mesmering.
You should always keep your inspiration nice and high. Here are 2 of my builds for my mesmer. This first one is a Domination based -
Backfire - Must
Ether Feast - Must
Mantra of your choice depending on the level - must be something like mantra of fire/frost etc. No Hex breaker.
Shatter Hex - Must - It's a great way to do a shitload of damage whenever your enemy uses a hex.
Drain Enchantment - Must - Regain plenty of energy
Res Sig - Of course!
Here are some nice options to go along -
Energy tap, Inspired Enchantment/Hex, Wastrels worry, Energy burn.
For Elites, good options are-
Energy Drain, Energy Surge, Echo (Drain Enchant 2x for plenty of energy), and Sig of Midnight. Use what you can, I suppose.
For Illusion magic, here are some very nice little skills that come in handy -
Inspired Hex - You will see why
Drain enchant - for energy
Mantra of persistence - Your hexes using illusion magic will last ALOT longer. It is definitely worth bringing just for the ~30 second long conjure phantasm.
Clumsiness - Great vs warriors
Phantom pain - Combine this with Persistence and conjure and you have 18 seconds of -7 degen and then a deep wound, with -5 proceeding for quite a while.
Res Sig
Good options for elites/ other skills :
Ineptitude - A nice blind and interupt+damage. Goes wonderfully with clumsiness.
Ethereal Burden - A snare + energy. Worthwhile bringing it.
Crippling Anguish - Another nice way to add onto that degen pyramid.
Energy Drain
Arcane echo with any of the above (except for burden/anguish)
Echo+Arcane echo+clumsiness if you want to serve no use except to annoy the warrior.
Also, try to fit in Leech signet somewhere. It's a nice worthwhile res/heal interupter.
Good luck!

I finished the game with my Me/E. Trust me, Me/E is very versatile. You can be an interrupter or an echo nuker.
When I was in the fire Island, I was mainly a interrupter and partly nuker.
Just bring:
power spike
arcane echo
echo
chaos storm
cry of frustraion
energy tap
ether feast
rez signet
When you need nuking power, triple chaos storm will do the job. When you wanna interrupt caster (esp when they are using chain lightning or energy surge), triple power spike and cry of frustration will stop all the casters in the area from casting--stoping 1 chain lightning and 1 energy surge can save your teammates. This build is for Pve only tho.
Btw, Me/E is awesome farmer. (hint: fire is your friend)

I'm also a Memser Elementalist, and i will play like that:
12 Fire
11 Fast Casting
10 Inspiration Magic
my skill go like that
-Flare
-FireBall
-Arcane Echo
-Fire Storm
-Metor Shower
-Fire Attunment
-Matre of Recall
-Rez Signet
When playing, do the follow steps:
1. Cast Matre of Recall
2. Cast Fire Attunement
When attack enemy:
1. Arcane Echo
2. Metor Shower
3. Metor Shower Again
4. Fire Storm
5. Fire Ball
I will not use Elite skill Echo because i'm not Primary Elementalist, so i need Matre of Recall to recover mana.
Fast Cast i really cool, with Collector Fire Wand and Fire Artifact, which give me 40% fast cast and 20% fast recast, sometimes i can use Fire Storm without the Loading bar appear.

I actually play a very weird Me/e build for PvP (it's fine tuned for PvP, but is quite able in PvE too), the Fast Casting Water Elementalist. It requires a lot of timing and field awareness, but it's amazingly fun to play if you can manage it.
You can read about it in great detail (perhaps too much detail) there: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=64821
Well, since the thread is somewhat messy and hard to follow, here's how I run it right now:
12 Water Elemental, Rest in Fast Cast (runes if you think it'd be more useful than the life)
Ice Prison: Single-Target 10 seconds snare; dissappears if you've got a trigger happy fire damage dealer around
Water Trident (Elite): Single target damage skill; nice damage and trips people over. This'll be the spell you'll cast the most often. Enemy warriors just loooove a combinaison of the above.
Blurred Vision: Not too useful in Team and Competition Arenas, but it's great for tombs, where large group of warriors often band together. Excellent anti-IWAY skill. It also goes off hyper quick.
Ice Spikes: AoE snare / damage. It's most useful feature is the short casting time and that it doesn't need a line of sight. It's also the cheapest way to slow a whole group down (and is downright devastating when combined with Deep Freeze on the whole enemy team). Short time snare, though.
Deep Freeze: This one is a love/hate relationship. Its casting cost is very disturbing for a build without mana management, but its effect in the right place are worth the cost. Slowing a full IWAY group; or a full enemy group for that matter is worth pure gold. Just be careful when you use it.
Maelström: This is it. The greatest skill ever made. 5 seconds of wanding followed by this skill will kill a NPC Priest in PvP. Snare a caster, Water Trident him, throw this skill then Water Trident again until he dies. Some monks will be quick enough to escape that, but they'll be on the move so your Water Tridents should still knock them down until they calm down.
Mist Armor: This is great for getaways or to run flags (or relics). The armor boost is hardly noticeable, but the speed boost... It's also another tool to alienate warriors that persist in following you.
Res Signet: If I need to explain this one to you, maybe you should just start playing something else

That's a really interesting build Guizzy, I think I'll give it a try some time. A quick question about ice spikes with deep freeze; do the slow effects stack, or is it just a nice bonus to be able to keep the slow effect on them for an extended time? As you said, freeze is somewhat of a love/hate kinda spell, and I'm thinking that swapping it out for something else might be a good idea, especially since its a fast cast build and not a storage build, and with maelstrom at 25, energy seems to be in short supply if you need to stack spells quickly. How does your energy hold up with this build in general?
There should be plenty of attribute points left to put domination up to a decent level to take along chaos storm to use while maelstrom recharges. Those two spells together would make life a pain for smite groups or healing balls, especially if you have an AoE el or two in your group. (this would be in tombs)

I also have a mesmer/elementalist, but I pretty much play him as pure mesmer, except for one thing, that being the elementalist elite "Glyph of Renewal."
This is a build I made specifically to tackle Hell's Precipice, so I'm not sure how well it would function in a PVP setting.
Fastcast 12 (8 + Superior Rune)
Domination 13 (12 + Minor Rune)
Inspiration 11 (10 + Minor Rune)
Domination would sometimes fluctuate up to 16, as I carry masks for all four attribute lines around in his inventory, each with either a major or superior rune on it.
Spells:
Backfire
Empathy
Shatter Hex
Drain Enchantment
Power Drain
Cry of Frustration
Ether Feast
Glyph of Renewal (Elementalist Elite)
Equipment: Insightful Inscribed Staff of Fortitude (+2 Energy, +27 Health), Rune of Major Vigor, Enchanter's Armor AL60.
Frequently, this resulted in:
Renewal -> Backfire target #1 -> Drain Enchantment -> Backfire target #2
Renewal -> Drain Enchantment -> Drain Enchantment -> Shatter Hex
Empathy -> Renewal -> Ether Feast -> Ether Feast -> Target swings itself to death, already at 70 or less hp, while the mesmer's health increases from a measly 30hp left to over 200.
So on and so forth. The echo drains were particularly effective in keeping him well stocked with energy, once or twice to the point where all his skills were still recharging but the energy bar was topped off to the max. It also allowed me to treat more spells as "fire and forget" than before, a sort of "machine gun" spray across the battlefield. A bit sloppy, IMHO, but it was effective.
The above build also plays fairly well with the ele Glyph of Energy and Lesser Energy.
(Yeah, yeah, no res signet. Bad BAD Me.)

How does your energy hold up with this build in general? Energy certainly is a problem; and the main limitation of this build. You can't cast both Deep Freeze and Maelström in succession. You usually have situations where either Deep Freeze or Maelström are a clear choice. If both situations happen too close to another; you'll have to wait for the mana to come back. I like Deep Freeze because of its long snare duration and its quite large range. It's improbable you'll freeze the whole enemy group with Spikes, but you might succeed with Deep Freeze.[/QUOTE]

Indeed; you can easily sacrifice some Fast Cast to put in Domination, but Chaos Storm is quite a costly spell to use. If you use it while Maelström recharges, you won't have enough energy to recast Maelström right away. There would be better things to do with that Domination... Shame, maybe?
Amused Observer
I actually prefer to do an AoE based me/e. So for me, that means chaos storm, arcane echo, firestorm, fireball, glphy lesser energy, glyph renewal. And I toss in a ward melee b/c my character seems to be a priority target for mobs. (final skill is rez sig, obviously.) My points are 12+4 dom, 9 fire, rest in earth.
I use this build for SF and UW. And I actually don't run out of energy with this build. EnzimX
Ahh gr8 thanx you guys, I have mesmer/ele and I was stuck, i couldn't find a good build and strategy, but this topic really makes all the difference
TyLLy_4
Hey guys .. that aint working ...... i tried almost evry build here... and NOTHING WORKS so far .... i just get raped by the wars .... (and i use protection vs melee clumsiness and spirit of failure ........ ) WTF do we do?
Foppe
Try something like Armor of the earth or get a better monk.
smurfhunter
mesmer warrior hate is mostly in the illusion line: imagined burden, soothing images, and then just run. if you really love snares you could go with crippling anguish but i advise against it ._.
TyLLy_4
iv found out that for TA this its prettty efective
Meteor shower Glyph of lesser energy Echoe {elite} fire storm Magnetic aura ward vs melee armor of earth with the following atributes 12 fire 10 earth rest in Fast casting (with runes in fast casting) gameplay .... jsut nuke th crpa out of enemy monks frist ... then go for rangers then warriors ... if a sigle war atacks you. cast magnetic aura (they usually get tired and go for next target) if he insist you cuild nuke him or cast ward and armour work pretty good .. only real problem its when ur low in mana and ur facin more than one war .... but nukes come in pretty handy Xenrath
Check the last few posts in this thread - http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=2809
I added my mesmentalist setup which works well for PvE. I agree it's not how a Mesmer should be set up but that's the breaks. In places like Thunderhead keep etc. I found I got invited into more groups if I advertised as fast casting elementalist type instead of proper mesmer. My build dishes out a lot of damage and does it a whole lot quicker than a regular elementalist, and still end up with surplus energy at the end of the fight... works for me Morganas
Yeah I went fast cast nuker to with my pve mesmer, despite the fact that is was terrible compared to a real mesmer it got me into groups easily. I just respeced back to a normal mes when I wanted to hench things.
Although, fast casting water magic is a good idea it seems. Casting speed and timing reallly screw me up when I'm playing a water ele, though if I were to make a fast cast water ele I would definitely bring drain enchant and inspired hex instead of one of the nukes (probably deep freeze) and armor of mist, leave the running to another character, your slow abilities are too useful on relic maps anyways for you to waste your time running. jesh

Sorry for picking this out, but I couldn't help but notice it and disagree. While using mesmer skills is all well and good, there are a lot of things that you can do with your secondary skills. Here's the build I use for protection on my mesmer.
12 fast cast 12 protect 11 insp or so? Can't remember Shield of Deflection {e} Guardian Spirit of Failure Rebirth Reversal of Fortune Aegis Archane Echo/Mend Ailment Inspired Hex The main idea is to cast spirit of failure on a target at high health, that can attack fast, prefferably. When it recharges, pick another monster. Use Shield/Guardian on whoever is getting hit to regain energy, all you need is around 3 hits to make those a free cast. The more hexed enemies, the faster you can protect. Aegis is an emergency skill. I echoed it as needed, I had the energy to do so. ** Notice the longest enchant I have is 10 seconds, which means even on the areas that are really enchant removal heavy, this build still did just fine, since I switch targets/renew enchants a lot anyway. |
