am i the only one who remmebers the fun days of when you first started the game? nothing is more exciting than when you have it installed, run the game successfully, and enter it for the first time. you dont want to skip the videos in the missions, because even though the plotline could be renacted using various fruits&vegetables, its a plotline nonetheless. and you're oh-so-excited to find that 200gp item. maybee its just me, but i see this time as the most fun i had in the game, spending my time striving for greatness. and now, with all my dreams accomplished, i have to start new characters for some modicum level of excitement. it's an odd cycle shared by every game. do you guys think its more prevalent with mmorpgs perhaps? or is it just that we forget about the hardships of those first moments, and cling to the good memories, that makes it seem more exciting? and when our attempts to reinact the past with new characters fail (because we cannot help but become bored with the mundane repetition in quests) it loosens our thrill of the game, does it not?

For me, it's the exploration of new areas which i remember so fondly. I was just browsing through hundreds of random screenshots which i took 4 months ago while playing with my first character.
One of them was a hydra which i had killed just before reaching travellers vale. I remeber thinking "OMG what is that?" and wondering if i could kill it with the henchmen accompanying me.
I looked at my skillbar and had some weird noobish skill setups. On a few screenies, i had mending, vital blessing and scourge healing. Even up to level 19 i had some really silly skill setups, lol.
I am glad i took screenies of my first character on his road to ascension, it's like a photo album encapsulating fond memories.

I can't wait for new areas or indeed entirely new continents. New explorable zones are what make this game exciting for me.

Earlier i headed east from the frontier gate and cleared my last part of unexplored terrain. I had that magical feeling as i blasted those lowly charr into oblivion with my uber bow and elite skills

C'mon ArenaNet, give us some more explorable zones extending in all directions. [Beg emote] lol

I remember when i first played, i was SO confused. It took me like 20 minutes of running around ascalon to figure out what the hell to do. But it was REALLy fun.

Now, it is still fun starting over and being able to go through everything fast (i did every quest with my first char, until i got to kryta). I didnt leave pre-searing until level 9 (level 4 & 5 with my other two characters). When i first go to post-searing i was AMAZED. I thought it was so cool. I ran around for a while checking out the traders and stuff. Then I wanted to get to lions arch so bad i paid 3k for a run there from yaks, just to run around there for a while, then do the missions to get there like a week later.

Now, ive beat the game with 1 character, and im almost to kryta with two of my other ones. I'll probably make another one before either of my other two are done.

I did enjoy old Ascalon, and really felt upset when I left it. Really it would such a better area. It was easy to the point you could run about without issues, mobs left you alone, NPCs were all nice and friendly, the quests were interesting and EVERYTHING looked great, so carm and peaceful.

Even the players seemed more friendly, this has kind of changed since I started months ago, but when I started people were much friendlier, oh and music in old ascalon is great, hate how its not repeated anywhere else!

Sadly having played the whole game now and collected a lot of good items, been griefed, been farming, done all possible quests and now doing PvP, there nothing to WOW me about this game these days.

Even the two new areas were all that great, they looked great and the quests were good, but the WOW effect has long since passed

i just hope the expansion (hint hint wink wink nudge nudge arena net) is miraculous in every way, shape and forom, and expands the size of the map 10 fold...but then again, when i was a kid i dreamed of being a fighter pilot; our dreams and our reality are two entirely different things.

This is me totally the adventure of exploring the map trying to find things new monsters, new weapons, new skills.

When I started the game and played up to lions arch's there wasn't "interactive map" that Thanks to GWG we have now so up until then i was like where is this place so you explored everything every fog'd area this was so fun.

Now I'm just counting the days until chapter 2 when I get to have the joys again to be on the fore front of exploration.

Yeah the good old days they were fun and you appreciate them much more when you start a second character because you know what to expect so you can seat back and enjoy the landscapes.

Heh, I deleted my old male barb and made a female one just so I could go back to ascalon again. If I had the ability to have more characters I would keep one permanently in old ascalon just so it would be easy to go back and wonder around. (whiny violin music playing)

Remember the irritation like "wtf does this little girl want with me?" then later realizing what the iris flowers were for, the flute and the little red cape you had to give her. Heh, discovering the 3rd entrance to the catacombs was like wow, I had no idea THAT was there.

I made sure I spent almost an entire day just wondering around old ascalon to look back at what I had left behind. Remember the first time a vial of dye dropped for you and you saw people in town saying "Buying black dye 100 gold" lol and it was like OMG, the trader is only offering me 1 gold! cha-ching! Then you got to post-searing for the very first time and it was like black dye is HOW MUCH!!

I believe this will be my last character I will make for a while, I will finish all her quests, get her ascended and move on then go help out new players in ascalon who have just made the plunge.

Back when GW first came out I bought 2 copies just so I could make more characters later on. I wanted to be able to have a primary in every class.
I am so glad I did that as I recently took the time to make a few new characters as running around in GF/SF was getting repetitive.
My buddies couldn't believe I was having fun running around in pre-searing.

Im bored of PvE, new areas or not... PvP is still fun when you find a group who does not leave because you got a 6% moral boost instead of a 8%... Really the only reason i hang around is because of my guild, i hope some day it will be big enough for GvG but until then its D2 for me, amazingly the one game that never seems to get old....

After finishing the game for the third time and after spending 540 hours in this game, I decided to quit. I thought about how stupid I was for doing things over and over again....the excruciating feeling of doing missions with people who doesnt know what the hell they're doing! The pain of having to do the whole mission again when you're almost done just because some drunk dude aggroed a mob when he shouldn't....the having to stand for 20-30 mins doing LFG!!! LFG!!! LFG!!! Getting your first drop of shard/ecto in Underworld then DYING before you could get to it....the HORROR!!!

So, first and second day comes....felt good just to kick back, watch some movies, go out some more....it was nice!

THEN THE THIRD DAY COMES......can't sleep....can't eat.....can't focus! My body starts shaking. Hell I thought I was going crazy!! Then the unexpected thing happened....I started playing Guild Wars again. I deleted 1 of my lvl 20 character then decided to make a Ranger. I realized how fun it really is to play in pre-searing!! Suddenly I can feel my body healing itself, it's like Guild Wars is casting Healing breeze on me ....felt good!! Now, my lvl 20 Ranger is in the Ring of Fire. I will have him kill everyone who stands in his way to victory!! And when I'm done, I'll do it again!!

So far, I'm almost at 600 hrs....and will go for more!!!

TY ANET FOR GAME!!!

Pre is the best... I keep going back there because I miss it so much. Plus the newbies crack me up... claiming to be able to reach lv 20 fighting lv6 charr and that the charr actually go up in lv as you go up. Now thats a new one to me... Beautiful scenery, Beautiful music... More people are equal as there is only so many skills you can get.

I look back at all my screens and have a laugh... no wonder the game was tough for me... my first character was oblivious to collector armor and was still on her first set up to yaks bend lol... But yes.. the fear when I came across my first lv10 enemy... Now I live for that sh^%! lol

Its so hard... to decide "Ok I've come as far as I can in Pre" over "I really don't wanna go to Post Ascalon..." cause of the depression waiting for me there.

ah, d2, crack for the eyes.
when i quit that game te first time i went through withdrawl, and after a week came back to it. eventually i just uninstalled the game and told my brother to hide the cd...2 weeks later i find myself rummaging through his room to find it; SUCCESS! after another month of having my life destroyed by that brain-plague of synaptic extacy, i uninstalled the game and destroyed all my cds to keep from playing it, and now every time i go to buest buy i have to refrain form going to the "D" section of the pc games, for fear of not being able to contain myself.
its an addiction.

I actually had more fun with my second character

my first was a Necromancer
my second s monk.

I think we like making new characters because of the play styles.
I didn,t like the necromancer's playstyle but now that I,m a monk, i can't play with other characters. Warrior is just to boring, elementalist also I've yest to play a Mesmer (which is the next one I'm going to try)

But certain players don't settle until they find their *profession*.

Heh I know the d2 feeling, but it was also funny sitting in chat room and watching everyone saying "omfg, when is ladder reset?!" and then after it did it was always "OMFG, MY MAP HACK DONT WORK HOW GAY!!!!!!"

exiting or exciting?

either way... yes the fond memories... I remember the horror of realising the ascalon I loved was gone... then finally getting to the mountians, it looked beautiful but cold. Ah then the jungles of Kryta. That was refreshing to see, I came out of my depression... But when I need my fix, I make a new character lol and back to Pre I go.

This is in fact true, go out to the Northern Wall and keep letting the Charr kill you over and over and over, just as they would in post-searing they will gain levels. This is a design feature of the game and how some people have made it to lvl 20 in pre-searing.

lol... well charr never lv'd up from killing me to my knowledge before... maybe they never killed me enough? I'm the Charr Master in Post searing... But the charr killed me very easy in Pre Searing... lack of good armor and skills has something to do with it...

Someone got a pic of a high lv Charr in Pre to actually with facts PROVE this to me that Charr lv up? Thanks.

Wow, i didn't know that zaklex. I think i might let an aloe seed kill me a few hundred times.
Question - do the drops increase with the enemy levels too? Or will they still drop unnatural seeds and 2-4 hand axes?

You think I'm joking? Would you like to be put in contact with the lvl 19 in pre-searing who's about to reach level 20? Part of the problem is you can't log-out or it will reset the monster levels, which might be why you never notice it.

Try getting to level 11 in pre-searing, then let some of the Charr keep killing you over and over again, don't log out and don't leave the instance, then see what happens.

no no not trying to say that, just poking fun at mavrik's comment

I would LOVE to see a gold item drop in pre sear

however I have made my last character until the next chapter comes out so it would have to wait unless I buy myself another account for storage purposes which is getting to be very likely.

I just went back to my screenies folder, and damn! was I bad at this game. I had sever artery and gash at lvl12 while i was wielding a hammer

Don't forget about that purple ringmail I used till Droks all the way from Ascalon, that was some funny stuff.

I actually did go on a Charr excursion and had a purple armor drop. Well guess what? I couldn't expert salvage it to make it useful in pre-searing. I'm sure there are other logistical problems as well as I cant imaging it was an intentional design by the game dev for people to level to 20 in pre. It, too, is my favorite area for its serenity and the slower pace of just hanging out.

well I for one do not have hours sitting around letting charr kill me over and over until they show signs of leveling up... wow... I mean... I gotta provide food and shelter for my family... I got a job and social events to make appearances at. Not saying your lying but... how bored could you get?

I've gotten blue and purple armor drops from charr in pre searing, I could identify but did not salvage until going to post searing.

I can remember my first time in the game. I loaded in, and someone's character loaded right over mine and I couldn't see me. Had a panic moment of "OMG... I didn't make a male ranger, I made a female Elementalist, wtf is this?"

So THAT'S how you get to level 20 pre-searing... I need to do that sometime. When I'm really bored, anyways.

I so want to take a screenshot of me completing some quest and have the message come up, "_____ is now level 20!" in Ascalon City. Then go to the academy.

I, unfortunately, rushed my first character (at my friend's insistence) from Beacon's to Forge (for armor - no big deal) and then from ToA to Sanctum (which I got a run for also). I missed out on Henge of Denravi and a couple other jungle missions.

I regret it though - I missed out on the storyline. (I play straight on my third character, except for having Forge armor - and it's a lot more enjoyable when watching and understanding the developing story).

I ruined my own experience =(

Tip to new players: don't rush your first character through the storyline. absorb and enjoy it - it's entertaining.

I remember badmouthing the game about its camera rotation mechanism at first. This was, by the way, when I was walking around with mouse clicking.
