Trying all combinations with the 'create account' feature requires an insane amount of time, so if someone really found yours randomly, you are incredibly unlucky.
Just a few more words: don't ask for a free key on these boards. Ever.

But most keygens are made by looking at a couple cd-keys and finding some sort of pattern, then creating a program that creates a random key that fits into that pattern. If it's taken, then they just create another one and so on...chances are that the pattern they're using (sometimes just a number, letter (A-N), number (0-9), letter (O-Z), number (5-9)) is correct and there's a bunch of combos that can be used.
At least that's how I've been told they work. Since the number of 'valid' codes is so high, these people don't get caught or take forever to be caught since the chances of someone else getting that code are low.
Sadly, the only alternative to this is what Half-Life2 did with steam...which was a horrid pain in the butt
OP: Put some spice into it...do you have any really bitchy friends or parents? Ask them to do the work for you. LOL, sometimes it takes more than one trip while being loud in front of everyone else in the store to get your way. If you're too nice they'll step on you and ignore your problem...but if you're being loud and saying what happened in front of other customers in the store, they might appease you quicker. Aside from the BBB thing, that's the only thing I can think of. Good luck!
