Guild Wars World Championship Unveiled 26 September 2005

We are pleased to announce that the qualifying season for the first Guild Wars World Championship will begin this week. In preparation, the Guild Wars Ladder will be reset at 12:00 am PDT (7:00 am GMT) on October 1 to start the first ladder season. The inaugural season will last three months and will culminate in regional playoffs among top-ranked guilds in each of America, Europe, and Korea, followed by the global Guild Wars World Championship, a live event to be held early next year. We'll be making a formal announcement on Thursday with further details.

Prior to the October 1 ladder reset, we will be updating Guild Wars with a comprehensive set of skill balance changes to refresh the competitive landscape.

woot. maybe some of the annoying guilds that are just coasting on the rank they earned like 2 months ago will get dumped, as they should

World Championship=awesome
Skill reset=maybe awesome...

Good thing is, this will measure the TRUE skill of guilds since smiting, IWAY, and Ranger spikes will likely be nerfed (or any other cookie-cutter), making the most creative guild win, the one who is quickest to adapt to changes.

Sounds nice.

The best part is that, at least at first, there won't be time to figure out new FoTW. That might actually take a day or two.

Sounds like a breath of fresh air for PvP.

Wooohooo.. this'll be exciting..maybe.
New skill balances will really change all the PvP styles in so far...maybe it'll create chances for new strategies.

I still cannot understand how ANet is more active at no cost than Blizzard is at a price per month...

...and I still don't care. ^_^

Go ANet!

Not my poor ranger. please

on a more serious tone:
this is funny.
I remember: 'rangers suck in pvp'
then we had spirit spam
-->rangers nerfed
now we have rangerspike
--> rangers nerfed again?

that really makes fun of everyone that claimed 'rangers suck in pvp'

When it comes down to it, if you don't want or you can't adapt to balance changes, then you probably aren't that good at the game anyhow. Online games, especially which strong PvP elements are going to have their skills modified, that's just common sense. If you want to play the same build, with the same skills, the same way, I suggest you look for a single player game.

I would actually like to see monthly skill balance changes. Nerf skills that are overused, and pump up skills that are underused. If done on a regular, biweekly basis, it would increase the churn of FotW builds, and force much greater tech.

Ranger spike hasn't been around for nearly as long as Air Spike or Spirits were. I wonder what they can even do to it.
