I've got a bow that I really like, and i'm thinking of getting it customized ... now, the question is:

If I kill my toon, and remake one with the same name, can I still use that bow? Or armor for that matter? Ie ranger John Smith has a customized bow, you bank it, kill John Smith, remake another John Smith as a ranger, can he use that bow? (I ask in case i want to start over with a different secondary )

Think i'll send a message to ArenaNet ... that is if someone here hasn't had the same experience already and would like to share it with me :-)

Flat answer: no. Customization is unique to a specific character, regardless if you make another one with the same name and class. Don't worry, you can change secondaries much later in the game. Chances are that you'll find a better bow anyway. Just customize and continue on.

I dunno ... it's a max damage gold 15% > 50 Firey Stormbow of Fortitude (+29 hp) ... now you see why i wanted to know

I've heard you can change secondaries later, and i've also heard that it's a real pain in the #$%@ with having to re-aquire your secondary skills, etc. and that you can only do it once. I'm a R/Mo at the moment, and i've heard Mesmer is a much better secondary. Perhaps i'm listening to other people too much, as I like being able to mend/orision and otherwise keep myself alive when Alesia goes running into a big group of angry MOB's and dies ... or our mission monk decides to take a bathroom break ...

Thanks for your input, guys. I figured someone else had tried this same thing before. I guess i'll just break down and go customize the dang thing ... i'd really like that +20% but I would have rather had the option to switch it over if available.

You don't lose any secondary skills when you switch secondary professions. I switch my monk between warrior and mesmer constantly. It might be a pain if you want to get all the skills for a new secondary, but if you're mainly looking for a few specific skills that is really easy now that the skill trainer on the island let's you get any non-elite skill. Then you just need to go back and cap any elites you might want and you're set...

and don't forget that when you change secondaries you can get a small number of skills from new quest's that come up that are profession specific. The number of quest's isn't great, but you can aquire 6-10 skills from doing them. These quest's will be found in the Ascalon region, as well as Yak's Bend & Traveller's Vale.

Best news i've heard all day! I'll leave my poor ranger alone then, he seems to get into enough trouble as it is without having to worry about that. I need to hurry up and cap some of those elite skills (i've been reading about them alot) and it's got me all excited. Halfway tempted to break out my laptop here at work and log in ... lol

You guys have been very helpful!
