Guild leader help

I hope this is not construed as recruiting. I only want to learn HOW to recruit. I started a guild when I got the game, however, I have never recruited anyone into it. I do have a guild hall, capes, etc., no website, though. I personally am not interested in GvG or even that much PvP, but I would not mind the guild doing it. My question is, how do I go about getting people? I am not overly outgoing, so I don't just want to spam "recruiting" in LA or something. I just want to get decent people that aren't jerks to play with. Any ideas on how to do it?

I usually play fun missions like Thunderhead, Ring of Fire, or Thirsty River - and to those that play well and get along with me, I invite to the guild. We don't get many people this way - but we get quality members that last and play well.

You'll find it's probably hardest just getting that first member since in the stage you're at right now you don't have much to offer. At the same time I wouldn't advise what I did and wait until someone asks you if you're recruiting. That led to 4 months of lonely fights.

You're best bet is to probably go to Ascalon and ask around if any guildless players need help with anything. I'm sure any new players would love any help they can receive, and would probably be glad to join your guild.

Yeh You got a point there. Most of my officers are friends

I started my guild with 2 friends and now I got 25 members. So it takes time but it is possible. The only thing is that there now are more guilds than players :P:P everyday someone makes a guild and try to recruit...If you ask me oneday everyone will be in an guild and there will be like 400 guilds with 2-3 members. Just wait till they merge into one :P:P

depends what kind of players you are looking for.
if you are looking for fresh guild war players, whom you would like to grow with the guild, go to aschalon.
if u want pvp players, go to tomb.

and whisper anyone without a guild/guild cape.

Yes and when they get further into the game and see another guild they might like to be in.They may think about leaving after that big investment after spending time with them and helping them out and not to mention paying 100gold to them for joining.The best way is to to it on the boards like this but if you just started one it maybe to late.I am seeing more guildless players around more than ever since the 100g invite fee came into effect leaders are reluctant to recruit in game as they will want it paid back.There is a big risk when recruiting as they can alway hit G and click on their name and leave.It has happened to me more than once and I spent a great deal of time with these ppl well not anymore unless I would get 1 or 2 K out of them.

Anyway, all you need is that one first member... someone you can trust. Then do missions together with other people.

Whenever I do a mission, there is always at least one other guildie on the team. Lately all of our recruiting has come due to random people who join our group for a mission, they see all the matching capes, and are immediately impressed - they know without speaking a word to us, that we are there for each other. We have not had to "recruit" anyone, instead they ask to be invited. They usually are already in a guild, but leave to come to ours.

Get a website. There are several forums that you can get a hold of for little to no money, but that way you can at least link you're name out there and get a little recognition. If you pay for a small server, it won't cost you much and you can find CMS services that take making a page dummy proof. PhP nuke just plugs in and you set it up without messing with HTML at all.

Also talk to people that are in the Looking for a Guild thread. If you have a little bit of structure, it will be a lot more appealing to people than "I personally am not interested in GvG or even that much PvP, but I would not mind the guild doing it." That tells people that you don't care what happens and a majority of players out there have been in guilds that have died out due to lack of direction. If you want to PvE, tell people that you are looking for groups to do missions with and enjoy the explorable aspects of the game. Or tell them you're looking for a few solid PvP minded players to take you up the ranks of the ladder. It's your call, but have some direction in mind.

Or look for a bigger guild that has your interests in mind that has a site and talk to them about a merger. Most mergers will include making the smaller guild leader one of the head officers. But most people have huge ego problems when it comes to "running" a guild.

It's taken me several months but I'm finally getting something resembling a guild. At the beginning you basically need friends (whether they be real-life or online ones) that play the game. At the moment, my guild consists of:

4 friends
1 friend who is also a co-worker
1 friend I got to know from a previous online game (Day of Defeat)
2 friends of friends
1 player we met through questing

So we're getting there - we're now a group of 10 - and now when we group together in missions/quests we usually don't need to ask to invite players, they usually approach us. So as long as you can get those initial numbers you should be set. It really helps if you can get your friends to play (as you can see a majority of my guild happens to be friends) - but you don't need to be pushy about it. Just keep playing GW and if your friends ever ask you what game you'd recommend, tell 'em about Guild Wars . Eventually they may get interested and take the plunge (especially if they're looking for an online RPG with no subscription fees)! Our 1 member we asked to join was through questing with us. We noticed that he was an exceptional healer plus he knew strategy - unfortunately, besides me and my friend, the same couldn't be said for the rest of the group. Since we were all in the same boat we thought it only natural to welcome him aboard and we are glad that he accepted.

I founded my guild in the betas because I found that many friends of mine from a different game were interested in guild wars.

My original roster:
Me
Two friends from RL (I saw them at school every day)
4 Friends from the other game

We had seven people (eight if you count that one of the accounts was being shared by two people) for the longest time.
Then the cousin of one of the guildees joined.
Then one of the other people left and we were back to 7 accounts.
I got another friend from RL in, but he went inactive over the summer so we had to kick him after a few months of him not coming back on .

Now we have a few more people from the game the 4 original people came from, we had to kick the cousin because she also went inactive, and right now we're up to 12 people... about 4 of whom are interested in PvP.
We're getting two more soon who will no doubt be interested in such things, and I'm slowly converting others.

Yup. My guild is made of friends, the guildleader is the one who first discovered the game. His wife and 2 best friends (and now me ) are officers. Then we sucked family members in, a couple co-workers, and then we picked up a few we actually met in game. slow and steady, reliable and trustworthy.

indigowulf - are you all on PST? I am always on the look out for other PST folks to play with as it seems lots of people are on EST and crash right when I log on!

Go to ascalon d1 and post your recruiting message. Instantly go to d2 and post it again, d3, d4, etc. When I do it this we I get 10 new members in an hour. They are new to the game, but will become experienced eventually.
