Increase in 'entitlement'
melbo
Speaking of increases, anyone notice how snotty/mean/'entitled' low level players are getting? Maybe it's just me, but I noticed a lot of low level players EXPECT you to help them if you're a high level in Ascalon or Shiverpeaks. They also expect you to give them weapons, materials, and other things for ridiculously cheap/free just because they're low level. It's even getting to the point where I don't announce free items on the local chat because I'll get spammed "me me me" from the same player 20 times, or get yelled at for giving away an item to the first person who contacted me, or get bugged about "Do you have a free Chaos axe".
Last night I teamed up with another lvl 20 in Grendich Courthouse since I'd forgotten to do the Althea's Ashes quest way back when. While we wrote on the local chat "Need 2 more for Altheas" to see if anyone else wanted to join us, this lvl 8 monk whispers me "Run me to Nolani". I responded to her on the local chat since she had whispers turned off and said "That's pretty bold and rude, if you would have asked nicely I may have helped you". I was playing a E/Me by the way. She then proceeded to whine every minute about how "OMG ppl are so greedy" and "2 lvl 20s doing Altheas and they can't run me to Nolani". Someone said they'd run her for 50g (which is what I would have said if I saw a rude player like that) and she scoffed at him and continued to whine about not getting a free run. Then she was complaining how she 'has 3 other level 20s that she runs people with'.
Back when I started, there were still these kinds of people and beggers, but it seems like it's starting to get out of hand.

yeah Im in a guild that helped new members out a lot. I frequently give 10k away for their armor or for runs. Come to find they leave the guild in a couple weeks- never to return the favor to the next new guy.
Also I am tired of people asking me for money to dye their armor. I refuse to pay for someones vanity.

I'm confused, you're whining because they are whining?
Drink some tea, put on on soothing music, and just don't listen to them. I put on my apathy face when I play MMOs. I rarely get mad. People can yell at me all the want, all I have to do is hit ignore and *bloop* instant remedy

He's not whining or complaining but concerned about the lack of appreciation.. that all of a sudden its our duty to help lower levels as if we are slaves.. (maybe it should be vice versa?).. eh..

It's not like it really pisses me off in real life, it's just annoying enough to make me reconsider being so helpful. And the only problem with ignore is that you can only ignore so many people at once (and some of the ppl on my ignore list are those very players). I figured I'd let off a bit of steam here and allow others to do the same in this thread since I'm SURE it happens to others as well.

Sometimes, Low levels can be really nice, but most are jerkoffs who buy their gold on ebay and expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter from lv 20s and such.

Wait, you're surprised? It's like that in every MMORPG. If you're rich and appear in "low-level" area, beggars will gather around you as soon as they see they might gain something. I remember making out of them in some other game, where I simply drop 1gp(while having couple of millions) every time and they would follow me throughout entire town, like some damn bots spamming "gather/pick", hoping I would accidentally press it few times to much and drop much more. It was just so pathetic, dropping useless crap and having them pick it up before it even landed on the ground.

oh i so wish we could drop stuff in towns, i would love to watch people race for it, that would be fun for hours to me

Evil. Very evil.
I'd do the same.
Anyways, I know what you mean. But getting out of hand? Don't feel so. Just been the same for me everywhere I go. Just ignore them. If they keep talking, it's not getting them any closer for what they need to accomplish, so not much use in arguing. Just leave things be, they learn it now,the hard way, or not learn at all.

Yeah I don't say anything after my first whisper back (either No or I already gave it away). I dunno, maybe it's the times I play, or I'm just attracting them this week, but it seems like its been worse this past week than how it usually was. I'm not surprised in the least that it's happening, just surprised at how quickly it increased for me.
And I would totally do those drops, that'd be hilarious.

That reminds me of Ragnarok Online. Coming back from farming and dropping crappy drops in town and having all the new players following you picking them. Anyways I agree with the OP fully. With that attitude they aren't to get any sympathy runs or money.
The Purple Pants Guy
Has anyone besides me ran into the problem of people trying to sell you things you never said you wanted? I had my level 18 warrior in Yak's just to finish off some quests I didn't do and then some random person showed me an axe I didn't want. Then after repeated times of me saying I didn't want it, he finally said he didn't sell to rude people and told me to "go get owned by Summit."

Ember camp is good for having stuff shoved into your face. People apparently don't realise that if you cancel the trade instead of viewing it, you're not interested.
Hockster
I've been getting lots of that happening in LA dist 1 too.

People shove green crap in my face. "I WAS WONDERING FI YOU WATNED TO BUY"
And those damn bitches "I would have given you 100g BUT YOU GAVE IT FOR FREE TO THAT OTHER PERSON...YOURE A NEWB". Right. Like 100g will ever buy you a max fiery dragon...
On the other hand, I help out newbs who look like they're about to get scammed. Oh yeah, he'll buy your black dye for a whooping 2000 gold??? WOW!

Seriously...
If I say WTS and some idiot says I have one, how much do you offer for it? I seriously want to shoot his c*ck off. I would shoot his head, but he already lacks a brain.

So far I've been lucky enough to avoid those types (except once shortly after the game went retail). Maybe I'm one of the few... *phew*
I can understand the complaints, I really can. I've had my fair share of it too. I've never had a problem helping in ways that I can. I usually, like the rest of you, go to lower areas to complete a quest/mission that was never completed before and run across those who are in need. I always appreciated it when people did it for me and I've always tried to be considerate of that.
The two latest things I've done that I don't think much of (others certainly will) were these. Someone was looking for a handful of steel ingots and was willing to pay anything within reason. I told him to meet me and I had a few he could have. Before I told him how many I had I told him I was interested in just 100 gold for the whole trade. He was elated when he got 40 steel ingots for that small price. I just needed to clear out a portion of my storage.
The other thing I did was, while in an Ascalon district, wanted to get a ton of things out of my inventory. Some happened to be some decent gold and purple items and a few runes. I'm just happy to see people go away excited. All I ask in return (which I normally get) is a whisper. I always hear *Wow!* *Can I really have this?* *This is awesome.* *Thanks*. I don't care for much of anything and that was a response I got from someone in Ascalon when he got a free rune of Superior Swordsmanship.
There are plenty of troublesome people out there but that is always outweighed by those who are always happy for help... whether its free or they need to throw in some gold for some help. Keep 'em happy. Theres always a justification to keep "giving" even when you run into the ruthless and rude roadblock from time to time.

huh
I'm lucky enough to have only one person who didn't show any appreciation before.
Gave him some junk (junk to me anyway), and thats it. No thanks nothing.
So I whispered "thats nice of you, not even a thanks or anything" and got this "sorry was in a rush" and logged off before I could reply. I guess thats the worst I ever got...which is nothing compared to some of the stories here.
On the other hand, I've gotten so many "thanks", "OMFG YOU'RE SO DAMN AWESOME", "you da man!!" that I really enjoy helping out people.
Sometimes I just try to rile someone up to check if they're nice people, patient people or some dick (while appearing like a dick myself ), and based on their reaction, I'd give them something for free.
Or I might just start up a conversation since most rude people won't be bothered to continue a coversation, then give them something at the end of it.
"Got plenty of help when I first started out, just passing on the good deed."
I always end my conversations with that line, hoping to instill the 'bring it forward' idea into them if it wasn't already in there.

giving stuff away is a quick way of keeping your storage and inventory clean.
and it doesnt take as long as: WTS crappy shield here, crappy sword there

I've tried giving stuf away too. Seems as soon as you advertise Free <whatever item> every leech online appears. And if you specify a class and level for the items everyone else gets pissed off. Then come the inevitable "what velse do you have for free?", and "can I have some gold? I'm new and broke." lines of BS. The beggars actually get offended when someone suggests they actually go earn it.
It's very rare to find someone genuinely new anymore and who appreciates the helping hand.
