Ranger/mesmer with sword?!? LOOK
Shadowsong
this is my new buid need suggestion! ^^
Ranger/mesmer
illusion magic: 12
Beast mastery: 3
Expertise:9+1
Wilderness Survival:9+1
Skills:
Illusionary weaponry: use a sword.
Whirling defense:75% of attack blocked for a lot of seconds
Lightning reflex:75% evade, +33% attack speed
Distortion or (dryder's defenses):75%evade -1 energy
Tiger's fury: +33% attack speed
Storm chaser: more speed
Conjure phantasm: something to do when illusionary weaponry is recharging
Resurrection signet: res
use tiger's fury ever!
more speed = more damage with illusionary weaponry
if u are targetted use lighting reflex as first stance so you have the +33% attack speed anyways
after use whirling and a last stance use distortion.
illusionary weaponry has 30 second duration and 40 second of recharge time
in this 10 second use conjure phantasm to deal damage
kill fast!

I'm seeing a lot of evasion and precious little damage.

yep, if youre going for illusionary weapons, use sword adrenaline combos, or go fully on illusion, but with a ranger, just doesnt make sense. you will get killed anyways when your stances end, why not do more damage?
*Illusion of Weakness

You may find it odd, but this in fact is a very sound build... Why?
All the prevous posters forgot some VERY precious things regarding Illusionary Weaponry {E}...
1. You gain NO BENEFIT from bonus dmg warrior skills, AT ALL... That +32 Galrath slash isn't +32 damage, it's the IW dmg since the weapon never really connects, which leads to...
2. You gain NO ADRENALINE since you're not ever hitting the enemy. Hello? Always missing? Any adrenaline skills will never work.
3. Due to all this, there's only one thing an IW fighter needs to do, DODGE LIKE A MOFO!!! ^_^ Conditions and hexes which cause you to miss are useless, which makes a IW quite deadly.
4. Your damage is constant. No amount of enchanting, stance use, hexing, conditioning, or ANYTHING can stop your damage. Plain and simple.
I think it's alright, though instead of Conjure Phantasm, I'd personally use either Ethereal Burden or Arcane Conundrum/Soothing Images... Both excellent defensive skills. One of which is an energy management skill.
I'd also only use a starter sword just for kicks.

Bring serpents quickness to drop the recharge time... thats too many stances though.
You have too many stances anyway.
Whats the use in having all those stances when you're going to be spamming tiger's fury?

I have seen a better IW R/Me build on another forum. I would have to guess you took inspiration from it. You might want to check other forums for improvements. It is a very effective build (the one elsewhere).
Savio
You really need a cover enchant. One Mesmer or Necro and it quickly becomes another useless player swinging for -0s.
Also, with a +20% enchantment weapon, IW will last 36 seconds. I'd find something better to do in the 4-second downtime rather than Conjure Phantasm.
Lastly, I agree with what others said in that TF will be your main stance, and the others pretty much won't help, at least for PvP.

Well, can I suggest that Conjure Phantasm be replaced with Arcane Echo? You see, when that IW gets off (either naturally or otherwise), you can recast it immediately.
And the starter sword is nice for kicks, but any sword with health or energy boosting upgrades would be my best bet.

yes IW is one of my favorite enchants to drain off along with vengence, unyielding, and shield of judgement

1. The +32 Galrath slash damage IS +32 DAMAGE (what should it be else?)
2. Learn to read, the spell says: "you won't be dealing any melee damage, but you deal xx damage due to IW", it's like with mist form, you don't take damage, but arrows that hit you, and they still interrupt you.
SO YOU DO GAIN ADRENALINE.
3. whats you point? I dont get you. Why does it make you deadly if you miss all the time?
4. there's more than one thing that can diminue your IW damage, try to think a bit before you post, I just give a simple example: "Protective Spirit"

Reject Hustler
seems like u took my idea
My build
Equipment:
Druid armor
Travelers Mask
Sword with enchanting pommel
Rockmolder
Stats:
Illusion Magic 12
Beast Mastery 9
Expertise 8
Wilderness Survival 10
Tigers Fury
Maiming Strike/Disrupting Lunge/Storm Chaser
Illusionary Weaponry
Troll Urgent
Phantom Pain
Charm Animal
Whirling Defense
Ressurection Signet
Start off with phantom pain cause it does deep wound.
Tigers fury last 9 seconds so you can keep it up for the most part.
Pet helps if they run away and its just there to annoy even further.
Can use Maiming Strike, Disrupting Lunge, Storm Chaser. or a different skill to complete the build depending on what your going for.
Try to stay away from mesmers or necros cause they might remove your IW

This whole post is filled with bs. You never tried or else you are just blatantly stupid. Iw removes regular dmg. it says so even in the spell. Galrath does shit. No adrenaline= no galrath and you get +32 but Iw reduces it to 0.You can't dodge or evade or miss with IW it just doesn't happen. Prot sprit is shit against IW. Go and try something before posting. It doesn't help. Shielding hands will. UGH

4. there's more than one thing that can diminue your IW damage, try to think a bit before you post, I just give a simple example: "Protective Spirit" This is completely untrue.
1. The +32 dmg is +32 that misses, since IW doesn't actually hit.
2. You take dmg if you use IW, your analogy is asinine and incorrect. You don't hit, so you don't gain adrenaline, unless you use something like "To the limit!" Either way, adrenaline is useless unless you wanted to use for stances.
3. IW is deadly because the IW user is unaffected by conditions such as blind or weakness.
4. Prot spirit decreases max dmg you take by 10%. That means, for a nomral person wearing one sup rune, and sup vigor would have 455 health. That means the max dmg he can take is 45. IW at lvl 16 illusion does 42. That's less than 45, so no, prot spirit doesn't help, unless the person has less than 420 max life.
Before you flame someone and claim to understand IW, maybe you should learn a thing or two about the game.
Back to the original poster, however. I've used a similiar IW build to great effect. I would recommend illusion of weakness or something in place of distortion. With it on, it also allows you to use the +5 armor, +45 health while enchanted chakram, which is a big bonus defensively. Distortion is a rather useless skill, given your other stances.
This build is pretty fun to mess around in CA, otherwise, it's not especially great. Also, for the person suggesting to use arcane echo, you would have to be able to keep track of the time so you can cast the echo'd IW before the timer runs out, since it lasts for only 20 seconds. However, it would be nice if the first IW was stripped, it could instantly be recast, so there's a second benefit, other than the downtime for IW.

So with 16 illusion IW hits a 42, and with 16 illusion + Galrath Slash also hits a 42.
2.The discription is wrong because you miss with your swipes.
3.You miss all the time, but the target takes the IW damage anyway.
4.In this build IW is hitting for 32's so the target would have to have 320 or less health(or something like that) maxiumum health. Sheilding hands and certain warrior armors are the worst things in this topic.
(This is being written really late so it will probably have bad grammar.)
Didn't read post above mine sorry.
