Petition to allow the use of Faction for PVE Characters
Wraith_
Alright, here's the deal:
1) Add priests of balthazar to all skill towns and major cities
2) Allow faction to be used to buy all the things from the priests that the skill traders in that location would normally sell, as well as upgrades (increase only by 1% each purchase) and runes.
3) Add a priest of Balthazar to the ember light camp and have that priest sell the elite skills.
4) Allow the conversion of faction to gold. 5 gold/faction (about 50,000 for a maxed out faction stock)
5) Add gold prizes to groups who win (50 gold-500 gold, 1 plat for a flawless victory)
Why do this?
This is the ultimate balance in the game. It is the final bridge between PVP characters and PVE characters. Instead of teadious grinding of levels to find enough gold to spend on skill points. I've currently got nearly 100 skill points between all characters and not nearly enough gold to spend them.
Thank you for listening.

I like this, but num 5 ("Add gold prizes to groups who win (50 gold-500 gold, 1 plat for a flawless victory)") Seems a little overbalanced don't you think?
Overall good ideas.
Best Regards, Ashleigh.

I do not like this idea. Buying elites already? I do feel this will make things worse. Of course I would love to use faction for my PvE characters, but I remember all the tedious work I put into getting these elites.

How about, PVE characters get Gold Rewards instead of Faction by participating in PVP? That way you cut out the middle man (PoB)

I like that this is producing some ideas. I like it. I really like it. As long as it wasn't chump change. You know? Not 50 gold a win....

I would like to see a way to convert faction to gold, as you suggested. That would be enough for me, but how do you balance the conversion? 1:1 is the fairest, but would also make it a less effective way of earning money.

Perhaps other types of faction will be added later. Say, with Dwayna or one of the others, and that may do what you have suggested here.
Of course, the big problem I see with this is that, those who win HoH are still a large portion of the rich, and they only play PvE to unlock things for PvP. Why give them even more rewards in PvE for their PvP play? Better to add more effective ways of earning money to PvE (say, a faction with dwayna that you earn when you complete quests/missions, and maybe add a few more repeatable missions). Hopefuly something that involves more than "zone here, kill these griffons, rinse and repeat"
Sad to say, I think they should not do this. Faction was ment as a way for PvP players to unlock more things without having to play PvE.
Well, that my 2 cents I suppose, sorry if I seemed harsh.

As you said Banebow, you're been playing almost exclusively PVP. Recently a lot of players have been leaving PVE as there is little else to do. You can't farm much anymore, and the quests have become teadious. You can only do FOW, UW or SF so many times. There needs to be a connection back from the PVP to the PVE.
Now say I've put in hours of effort into my PVE chracter and want to do some PVP? Do I have to delete him for the skills that I don't have that I've unlocked from other characters? I don't -need- faction at this point. I've got virtually everything unlocked which does me no good as I've got 4 PVE characters, none of which I'd be willing to part wtih. Also, I can't use collector or FOW armor on them, a critical flaw in the seperation of the styles I think.

Major vigor is back up to 80k. On my farming clock that's....12 hours of farming?
Ridiculous.

However, I should state that I could not have cared less about prices when the game came out, and so did not pay attention to them. What do you define as reasonable for, say, a 5:1 vampiric string?
But then, of course, I need to ask how much faction are we talking about to unlock these things? 1k faction for (to continue with the string example) a 5:1 vampiric string? That is out of line, whether or not you had to get the 1:1, 2:1 etc first. Did you have different costs in mind, or would faction prices stay the same? (barring skills, on which 1k faction is a reasonable cost) Perhaps, like runes, to unlock the better ones costs more than to unlock the minor ones (runes could also use a change, since even 5k faction is not a huge amount, 2k for a superior vigor is also perhaps cheaper than is best)
Also, I would recommend that the 'unlocks' do not actualy unlock the skill/item. As with purchasing runes from the trader, using your faction on a PvE character does not unlock the item/rune/skill for the acount, only for that character. In the case of runes/upgrades, the item would be added to your inventory.

Sorry to say and thmis is no flame but i dont like it... It sounds all to cheap.... i any case there should be like something at the end of the game that let you unlock this "feature" that Wraith posted.... like when you do the final quest you get this feature unlock....

People who have worked hard for their gold will feel cheated out. Those who have done PvP for the longest time might feel the same way. Isn't that Anet is made to TRY and keep everyone equal by not how many hours you have played, but how skilled you are? By adding gold to the arena, it will create the unbalance in the PvE world, and it will make prices actually go higher. The more gold people have, the more people want to buy more things, the more demand for items.
I say keep PvE to PvE, and PvP to PvP. Even though as much as I would love to have your ideas happen, but I'm in it for the new players who will be way behind from those who spend hours on it already.
By all means good ideas, just don't think it would work.

People getting filthy rich? It's hard work. It takes time. I believe those who are willing to put the work into it, and get something out of it deserve it. ANYONE can spend the time into it. Are others willing? If Anet does decide to do something like this, make it low gold. Maybe like 10. Or something.

Hey. I got a great idea. Since most PVP people dont give a shit about gold, maybe you should be able to buy PVP stuff with gold, too. That way PVP could actually have a use for it!
Stop complaining....no offense, but if you need help for a pve part of the game, you suck~
And faction comes from PVP play anyway...

I think you can see where I am going with this, so I will stop before I come off as even ruder than I would like.

i dont know, ive managed to unlock everything - runes and skills and elites. however i did almost all the skills (except maybe 8 of them) through PvE because i was unlocking before the whole faction thing came in.
meanwhile i used faction to unlock all runes because im more a PvPr than anything else.
however ive got this awkward feeling now, where i have 1 PvE character left (i deleted the others to make room for PvP chars), and its a monk, and im not having a heap of fun with it. however i know that if i restart a new character ill have to go to the ends of the earth and repeat my hard work to access the strategic fun of skill diversity.
it'd be nice if once you completed the game you earnt some kind of method to be able to unlock skills more readily for new characters. for instance being able to access 'account unlocked' skills on new characters for the price of faction or gold.
ie. for 10,000 faction you can purchase access to all the normal skills you had unlocked for your pvp account so far. for another 10,000 faction you can purchase all the elite skills (once youve purchased the normal) you had already unlocked for your pvp account so far.
(kinda spoiler)
these options only being available if youve actually finished the last mission in the ring of fire isles
(ok wasnt a huge spoiler)
so you dont gain anything you havent already earnt in some way. and it gives an alt method for peeps to access their favorite skills for new characters.

I think another poster put it best: We should just change the name of the game from Guild Wars to Guild Guess, because we're getting accustomed to all types of cool updates that make sure every player is happy. Well, at least, the most vocal, whiny ones are happy.
Let's nerf the price of the game to accomodate its crappy updates! That would be "fair". I think the price of Guild Wars needs a serious "nerfing". Perhaps we should charge a dollar for every update I've enjoyed so far? Oh wait, then they'd be handing out copies of GW for free.
Scratch that idea.
Hey, I don't know what I'm talking about, anyway. I'm not a GW dev.

I meant that generallly people who want more crap added to their pve experience means...they find pve is hard. If you find pve is hard...no offense, but you arent just the greatest game player around.
