I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars this month but I'm kinda afraid that it'll dissapoint me.

Seeing the movies and screenshots people posted it looks awesome in both gameplay and graphic terms.

All though I have always been thinking of getting WoW, it always stopped me thanks to that monthly fee.

Is this game worth the 45 euro's or should I waste my money on something else?

I forget. Really. I don't know.

Mo/

Do you know of anyone who has WoW or GW. Play both a decided for yourself.

I like GW. The map is huge. It will take you many months to finish. There are no monthly fees, but the quality is better than WoW because the game was thought out better. No ganking, there is a huge storyline, lvl 20 cap (but that's where the game really starts!)

How many hours of enjoyable time do you want to get for 45 euros? 20? 40? 100?

The game is fun, and I imagine most of the people playing enjoy the play.

Frankly I don't think anyone can answer you. I enjoy the game, I've been playing in hte Beta Weekends for 6 months. I like that way the game plays. There are sufficient choices as to professions, skills, weapons and things to do to keep me entertained for quite a long time. I haven't played WOW but I have tried EQ2, I like Guild Wars better. Doesn't mean you will though. I understand not wanting to shell out a lot of money for a game you may not like, I hate to do the same thing. I recommend the game but do not guarantee that you will like it as much as I do. Explore the guides on this site, they should give you more info on gameplay and draw your own conclusion.

Yes it's easily worth the price. This game will last many hours, far more than most $50 games provide.

Now whether you will like it or not is another question, one which nobody here can answer.

Looking at all the screenies and reading the Online Manual it looks very promising..

It might be a little hard for me to get into the GW world itself since I'm not really familiar with the RPG standards. But I really liked KoToR and Fable and stuff like that.. And yes, I know KoToR and Fable is different then GW

Last week I spent $50 on God of War, played it enthusiastically for 3 days, beat the game. I don't regret spending the money, it was a great game and well worth the price. This week I spent $50 on Guild Wars, spent twice as much time as I have on God of War already, and am barely scratching the surface of the game. Its worth > $50 easily. I would pay monthly. Heck if I knew where to donate monthly I would do that.

It costs around € 44,99 here.. I'm pretty sure it's worth the € 25,00's then cause I got € 20,00's worth of freebees

I don't hope they will put a monthly fee on it like that game from Sony: Infantry..
I played that (free) game for about 3 years and then those Sony bastards put a monthly fee on it which totally ruined the game.

Yeah, I played that when it first came out. I still play it from time to time. You have like 30 minutes to play, then you have to restart the station.

And, We're getting Guild Wars today!

I would love a monthly fee on this. There's lots of "types" they weed out. And it would most likely mean more content since they could have a bigger staff working on it.

But I don't think it will happen.

I agree with you completely. I hope we don't end up getting all the runescape crowd, at least there is that initial $50. Hopefully it doesn't drop too soon.

Oh please shut up would ya.

The majority of the people who play Guild Wars are the one's who dont want to pay to play. I hope for gods sakes that it just stays this way or else the company just sucks allot.

Man, if it happens I hope the company gets a major lawsuit up their arse.

I think the idea of a monthly fee, despite "Weeding out bad apples" it would weed out more "good apples" who cant afford to play or are more inclined to pay for another game then GW, then it would "Bad" players.

I agree with this. I have looked at other MMORPGs and this one intriuged me because there was no monthly fee. I would move on should a montly fee be attached to this game.

However, back to the question at hand ... is it worth the money?

In my opinion yes. I was very skeptical at first. Didn't play any demos but heard from members of my Sacred gaming clan about this game. watched the reviews when it came out. I bit the bullet last thursday and have played all weekend. Started four different characters and have been schemeing while at work how I can get more play time in.

So, in the end it may not be worth the US$50 I paid after I loose my job.

Well, since I am one of the many who is experiencing intermittant system crashes with GW, I wouldn't recommend purchasing it until those issues are resolved.

It is quite good, though, for the 5-50 minutes of gameplay....

Well this is true, but not all the time. The community in WoW is by FAR the worst I have ever encountered in my life. The forums are a coalation on mindless dribble that never ends. Everyone is always complaining it seems, rather than playing the game. I played WoW since release and only found a few people who don't act like 10 year olds.

On that note, I'm very glad that this game requires strategy. hopefully making a hard time for the immature ones who've bought the game, so maybe they'll quit. I do think that this game is not aimed for young kids, not that im saying that all are immature, just quite a few I've met. From what I've seen Guild Wars has a good community, but whose to say that it won't go down the toilet in a few months, when the price of the game drops to $29.99. Only time will tell

Hah.. this is total BS, sorry. Anyone who can't afford $15 /month for a game is either an immature kid who doesn't even know how to mow a single lawn a month to cover his gaming expenses or an old dog that is stuck in his old ways of not taking on any recurring charges while he spends 10 times more per month on buying 4+ new games instead of one. GW is an ongoing service, they would be quite justified in charging monthly.

I agree. You'll get rid of more bad apples then good ones with monthly fees. I do like the different approach in the fact I am not paying one.

BUT, I do see a lot more bad apples playing this game then I do EQ2 and MxO. And yes I play those still

EQ2 I beleive is aimed at an older audience. It also requires a significant time investment... Most "bad apples" don't want to spent 400 hours maxing their char, so they can greif. Greifers in GW, from what I've seen have only been spammers in the trade channel. But greifing in this game is limited due to game dynamics.

This has got to be the most ignorant response I've ever read on these forums...

I, for one, can shell out $15 a month to play this game with no problem, however, I KNOW the VALUE of a dollor and I dont' take lightly to having to pay for games. That is absolutely ridiculous. I admin, I have played pay to play games ever since EQ1 and I still am paying for a few, but now that guild wars has arrived it has shown that quality game that can be produced without montly fees and I am dropping my subscriptions to the other pay to play games. No montly fee is the way to go. If you are worried about teenage punks coming and ruining the game you have bigger issues to worry about. When you hit the 'N' button in guild wars it brings up a list where you can add friends and a list where you can add people to ignore. When that teenage punk starts bothering you, use that list and add his name to it. I can gaurantee that he wont bother you again!

Just my two cents...

Imo, after playing the game for a couple days it is definetly worth the price. Already had a ton of fun rolling around with some friends exploring, questing, and killing stuff and have only explored a tiny bit of the massive map.

As a veteran MMO player (swg,PS, WOW, MxO, etc) this game has exactly what I was looking for. Specifically no monthly fees, elimination of needless travel, and no endless grind to some insane level. I like to just jump on and play and this game allows that. The henchmen are sweet for soloing and I run the game at highest settings with no lag. I am loving it so far and am looking forward to exploring more of the world! If anybody wants to meet up my ingame name is Mordread. Props to the dev team for giving players what they want! Heres hoping they listen to feedback now that we are in release as well.

I like the game its worth the price one thing I hope they fix is the constant spammers in the chat window selling things they should find a way to force the spammers who are selling into the trade window.

Well I bought the collectors edition of WoW the day the game went retail, and just bought GW yesterday, so all I can really say is that compared to WOW so far there are things I like more about one, and more about the other

One of WoW's strongest points is its community, roughly half a million active players, the pvp combat is just insane

The main reason I picked up GW was because futureshop had it for 40$, and thats as much as it costs me to play WoW for two months, so, I guess I will still find out which is more worth the $$

From what I've seen so far graphics wise and with no extra fee it is worth it easy. Of course 45 euros is a little high but EQ or WoW, are gonna cost much more in the long run.
