Sup Absorption + Knights armor
mikechap
ok so right now i have 5 pieces of 15k platemail armor with sup absorption on one of them. suppose i put a piece of knights armor like the gauntlets on. will i then recieve a recieved dmg bonus of -4 as opposed to -3? if so i have been missing out for 600 hours of gameplay :P.

Long story short:
Knight's gives a damage reduction of -2. If you put a piece of it on, it will stack, giving you -5.

Yeah, but I think the Knight's bonus is only against "attacks," which are skills labeled "bow attack, melee attack, axe attack" and weapon swings and wand shots. Still, it's worth having.

Absorption has the same description as Knight's/Ascalon armor: "Reduces damage from attacks." I'm not sure what they both defend against, though I'd rather just have both.

hmmm....over all knights armour is better than pl8 mail? cause I have pl8
Murder In China
No, Plate Mail has higher amount of AL than Knight's and looks better IMO. Plus one piece of knight will absorb 2 damage from a damage source.

Saying "pl8" in a forum ruins your credibility.
roalgumo7
Oh well, this is too confusing, after playing guild wars for so long I still do not understand knights set, oh well, guess I will figure it out on my own.
about the "pl8".......what the hell? Was I supposed to laugh or something? or maybe get mad?

After some testing today (10/2/05), I have confirmed (again) that the Knight's set damage is indeed global. This testing was in response to assertions contrary to my previous statements concerning this equipment situation.
My grind warrior has the following:
+1 Axe helmet with a Superior Axe rune
Gladiator's chest with Superior Absorption
Gladiator's leggings with Superior Vigor
Knight's gloves with a minor Strength
Gladiator's boots with minor Tactics (why not).
A 16 AL Strength shield.
I'm rich, biatch! And I don't even PVE anymore. WTF.
Anyway, here's what I did:
I went outside Grendich Courthouse and found a Charr Hunter. Hunters use Ignite Arrows, which has no random damage range on it, thereby simplifying the testing. First, I killed everything but the Hunter, then I slapped on a godly 3 pip Mending to grant invincibility. I first stayed fully equipped and let the Hunter attack me for about 5 minutes. Ignite Arrows did 0 damage every time it hit. Then I took off the gloves and let him attack for another 5 minutes. -2 damage every hit from Ignite. I allowed a long time period for this testing in order to allow for any randomness in hit locations.
For fun, I removed my armor chest piece. The Ignite damage remained at -2 except for a few hits here and there that were 6 damage, which I conclude were hits to the unarmored chest location. This shows that Ignite has location checking and therefore doesn't always hit the chest piece. Through deduction, the following is now obvious:
Ignite hits in a randomly chosen location.
With Knight's Gloves and Superior Absorption equipped, I never took anything but 0 damage from Ignite Arrows.
Without Knight's gloves, but with Sup. Absorption, I consistently took 2 damage from Ignite.
Conclusion:
Since Ignite is locational damage and I always took 0 damage with Knights gloves equipped and 2 without, Knight's gloves damage reduction is global, like we've been saying for months. Furthermore, due to the damage reduction being global, only one piece is needed.

I have platemail with knights gloves (with major absorption rune) seems to work fine. I also have Thorgails shield for a further -2 dmg. Combining the high Al from platemail with damage reduction is my goal. I do not know for sure however if the shield -2damage reduction stacks with my knights gloves giving -2 gloves -2 rune -2 shield = -6.
Anyone know this?

The shield stacks on top of everything else. Easy way to prove that is just get a max shield with no damage modifier and experiment like Bast just did. I've proven it myself already, as far as shields go.

So this works against elemental damage, not just physical?

since only the rune was left on in bast's test the rune does give elemental and pyshical -3.
you should probly do another test and see if the gloves' global affect is -2 vs physical and elemental.
life bond is worded the same way and it does not reduce dmg from spells, only normal attacks or attack skills. i don't know how preperations are classified b/c they are triggered by attacks.
