What happened to the storyline?
Bunny Dies
Ugh.. So okay, the game starts out and everything makes sense. Pre sear has a followable storyline, and then the world ends and you have to try and do stuff and it all makes sense, fighting the char back, getting people out of there.. its all slow and makes sense!.. But then once you get to kryta... rurik dies, okay, you see the evil undead boss guy who wants a scepter, you are inducted into the white mantle, not an hour later you are killing the white mantle.. but you are still doing quests for the white mantle.. you see some chick archer who shot somone and now all of a sudden the two of you are best friends even though i have no idea why they are not attacking me because as far as they should know im with the white mantle but they give me skills so i do the quests??! ;-;
Whats going on? Iv done all the quests i could find, used a map to run to all the towns around where the game takes me, but its all full of plot holes and whats going on ;-; I know that the white mantle killed some of the town guard guys, but i knew that before i even did any of the missions after lions arch, and now all of a sudden i have an option to tell the guy outside druids whatever that hes a lowlife skum.. but i also get to help him on a quest!?
Do things smooth out? You would spend three missions just to do one thing before, now its like you are missing three cutscenes worth of information every time you do one mission and im totaly lost as to WHY im doing the things im doing. Does the game just end at kryta and after that its a bunch of running around with verry verry simple explinations that dont even tie in with eachother so you can get skills and items so you can become more powerful?

first of all, MAJOR SPOILAGE (but i doesn't concern me, so what the hell).
second, i had no problems with the plot. it could be that you didn't do the missions in the right order (that happens alot in the magumma jungle, becuse it easier to run to aurora than it is to do the mission)...
what was the order of the missions you did?

Well i havnt done any missions in the jungle yet, i was doing the quests i got at the place you get sent to after you do the mission with the floating eye. The main thing that throws me is..
1. You get that mission.
2. You get the cutscene where the villagers are taken.
3. You get sent to a palce with a whitemantle person who assumes you are with the shining blade and you get told to deliver that message.
4. You do so and get lots of quests to help the shining blade...
5. You get moved ages away from where the undead are.. what of the scepter and the undead boss guy.. i know they probably show up again but..
6. Why am i even in the jungle? I dont get the reason that im there.. am i looking for the villagers? noone told me i was.. was i captured with the villagers but the cutscene didnt tell me?
Thats the main thing. Up to this point the places you get ploped down in has made sense. But it seems im just randomly placed at the edge of a jungle for no good reason ;-;
I figured in a thread about storyline spoilers would be a given ^^

The problem is the quest "Mysterious Message," which you get at the Outlook and eventually leads you to Quarrel Falls. You're not "supposed" to get to Quarrel until you've done both The Wilds and Bloodstone Fen, which will drop you off in Quarrel, after it's been explained why you're helping the Shining Blade. I did the same thing the first time I played through.
Bunny Dies
Oh, well that clears things up. But i still dont get why you can get that quest when and where you can. ;-; oh well

i totally agree with the op. the story sucks so far. i let it slide since it's only the first act of the whole story. the reason for leaving ascalon to the charr and moving the entire population of ascalon to the monster ridden jungles of kryta and the white mantle is strange to say the least. did the british flee their island when things didn't go their way in WW2? (okay maybe it's not a good comparison but you get the point).
now let's say the charr possessed some magical fire that makes the earth barren and scorched forever. what if the only way to stop the charr from destroying ascalon was to find the origin of that magical fire. what if the mantle said they have a reason to believe this is done by the undead lich only to strike a deal with him later and betray us? what if we have to follow that lich all the way to hell in order to fight him. now that's a progressive storyline, and i came up with it faster than a mesmer can cast his interrupts.
i'm sure anet's storytellers can do better than this. i hope chapter 2 will prove this to be right.

You were in the jungle cause you chased the shining blade in there. Then the shining blade told you what was really going on (showing you justicar hablion killing the chosen), so you befriended them or something.

I was confused by this also. Then I read in some forum that when the game was in beta, completing Divinity Coast dumped you into The Wilds, carrying the story forward in a sensible manner, but that when the game went retail, you got dumped into Outlook instead, thoroughly confusing anyone who does Mysteious Messenger before doing A Brother's Revenge. (It also makes you scratch your head at the response provided for declining A Brother's Revenge, until you've done The Wilds and Bloodstone Fen.)

The only thing I have a problem with (in the storyline) is the transition from charr to kryta....
What happends to ascalon, why are the charr there, where are do the charr come from?
Basically, I dont understand the function of the charr...

I'm just happy rurik is dead.
I didn't care what happened story wise after that.

OK. Basically, the storyline starts around when you meet the White Mantle. The Charr and Ascalon thing? Um...it teaches you to...draw aggro.
If you have any complaints, you can always blame it on Savio.

Maybe that's what's planned for Chapter 2 - liberating Ascalon from the Char.
On the other hand, who would want to live there? It was so pretty before and now it's all seared and gross - yuck.

Hmm... I wonder if any of you guys have beaten the game yet... I'm not going to put up spoilages, but I'll say this: if you are ranting about the storyline now, I want to see what you guys are going to say if you beat final mission. In short, the storyline is pretty much messed up, so don't worry about it too much. I take it as a joke (in a good way).

Basically, I dont understand the function of the charr... that's exactly what I thought. Until about half way through Kryta, I kinda figured you would go back to take care of the charr, but instead they just get ignored.
Let's hope that ANet can eventually clear up this plot hole.
