I don't think this would be entirely necessary if Anet did not take the time to create such an expansive world for what would seem like a relatively short span of playing time. I'm continually blown away by the attention to detail given to this title. However, I do find that running many of the quests the scenary and the fighting appear to be redundant.
The examples are plentiful however, I think Ascalon City provides a good example that many players can relate. There are many quests that require you to run to Diessa Lowlands or Regents valley and the like. There's a few "outposts" that make life easier certainly, however, I grow somewhat tired of killing those same two devourers right at the start of leaving Ascalon City. The same can be said for the Charr patrols outside of Piken Square.
I don't really mind the respawning so much as long as I stand to gain "something." My complaint is that many of these enemies are several levels lower than me and stand absolutely no chance. If I had a mount I could easily go back and complete the handful of quests that I opted not to because of this very issue. Mount being a means for avoiding combat and moving faster. I'm finding skills like sprint to be essential for "quest cleanup."
My other issue is that the rewards for quests always seem to bit redundant. This problem is really on early on, but I grow tired of Ascalon Bows, Protective Icons and Smiting Rods. The occasional "Long Sword" is nice, but how about a vial of dye or a salvaging kit or even better, how about the 20 gold because that's all these items ever seem to be worth. I have never once received an item (skills are cool) from a quest and thought, "Finally, a decent weapon."
Mounts please oh and please no more protective icons!

I was conned into play a storyline mission before I wanted to once.. I like to do all the minor quests in the area first as like, getting ready for the main mission thing.
joined a team after clearly stating I wanted to do Cities of Ascalon.. before I know it I was in the main mission.. so I thought.. ok Im gona rush this and not give them any chance to keep up.
It didnt work though, I killed everything and they kept up, and they were very gratfull
They should make it so that you have to be rewarded with certain items from minor quests BEFORE your alowed to carry on.. throw a few spanners in the works
