no
you either charm or you dont
also if you remove CHARM ANIMAL from your bar the animal will disappear until it is back in the skill bar
if you and your pet die you will be resurected at the nearest shrine but the pet wont
to save yourself a long hunt for the pets body just exit the area you are in and it will be back with you with full health
