The New Faction Bot
DavenXion
Hey guys, just wanted to give ya a heads up to the lastest attempt to ruin fun in 4v4 randoms. Botters have gotten a wee bit more advanced in there attempts. The Bot doesn't just sit there and enter mission, it now follows a person around.
I was playing a necro, so I run in cast my crap and ran back abit, thought I was being chased by a warrior from the other team, then I realized that it was my team color on him. I stop, he stops, I run he's right behind me. So I ask the other team to hold up and tell them what's going on. A few of them do and I try to rake him off on them to see if he attacks. Nope, his only function is to pick a name and continually spacebar follow. After I die, he just stands there by my corpse.
I'd guess they weren't getting enough people willing to fight when the bot would just stand there, so might as well make the illusion of movement....Now if only they could program it to attack, it'd be better than several warriors I've seen

Why would you want to bot faction? Damn botters.
Loops4879
I had that happen to me but he was an ele and anoying as hell i mean a guy just running behind u all the time is distracting more than any ranger.

think about it, you continuously enter into radom arenas all ngiht while you sleep, you lose maybe 75% of all the matchs but you stil gain 10k or so faction for the night. I dotn condone this nor do I like it but theres a reason they do it!

What's worst is if your group has a jerk for a monk and will not rez any of you but just keeps casting prot spirit on himself waiting for the other team to just get bored and leave so he can leech faction.
I was in a match at yak's that lasted like 12 minutes and the last 10 of it was just watching the monk keep this up.
So then when I would be on a team opposing him I would just tell them your monk won't rez you and I would tell my team mates to not attack him so he can't build up his energy.
If you get the faction because you helped earn it fine, but leeching it is just stupid. Efective but still stupid.
Major suckage

rofl thats just funny. are you totally sure its not some complete idiot controlling it? i mean just because it acts like a bot you cant be 100% sure... some people i know would make even a bot sit down and cry.
DavenXion
It's possible smurf. My wife asked if she went into arena and just click followed, would she be called a bot...I told her not to try it because she'd probably get reported and I don't wanna buy another copy of GW.

No we would finally get him by spiking him but it was just the fact he even admitted to just leeching faction.
First time he did this though he was on my team, that when I found out what he was doing.

Maybe it's a new noob trend, follow the leader?
Suokkis
Definately a new faction farming bot around. I recently was in random arena with an ele. Before and after the match, she would randomly follow a party member and choose a new (closest) party member to follow at some interval. While battling, she would move in prerecorded line to a certain point in the map, cast Ether Renewal (without any enchants on herself at any time) and then use Stone Daggers and Obsidian Flame on random targets (I assume the nearest target).
unienaule
Wait, stone daggers and ob flame sounds like some noob who doesn't quite understand how ether renewal is supposed to work. Lol i'm kidding im kidding... or am I? The sad part is, I might not be.

its happening in GvG too. I've been reporting the nicks as I find em. its a ongoing effort though. I recommend you guys do the same... Anet has a way to check the logs for such activity. By what commands the Bot character is sending the instances...
Just email where you were (Arena, Guild (If applicable), Tombs, GvG hall type), Your time and time zone... and the bots nick and guild name if applicable) to [email protected] If you want a SS go ahead. they like that as well...
Example: Team arenas, (guildname), (Offenders Nick) 14.35 EST
Attached SS...
Explanation: This (insert offenders nick here) player appears to be a bot for farming faction. it was inactive during PvP, and only following me around and never attacking anything or speaking to anyone in game.
(Describe actions further if you wish)
sign it and e-mail it away...
Anet is very open to listening to complaints... And they review the server logs and find the instance in question, then does a global search for similar actions. Quite often this will result in a ban of the offending accounts, and possible elimination of the guild that was supporting it...
So please if you come across these bots, please report them... it does help to get rid of them eventually...

that works ingram? I came to the point of not reporting anything because I thought I had to go through the web form on gw.com's support page...which is annoying.
Ollj
the funny thing about faction bots is that they give the opposing teams more faction than self and the 3 allied players that just leave it alone can fight and win against another one later.

speaking of bots, they recently invaded id 1 spamming some retarded website.

Of course, I'm not an idiot enough to do this and it'd be very easy for ANet to detect it.
Numa Pompilius
Hell, anyone with two braincells to rub together could make a script to join random arena, follow teammate and/or attack closest <rinse repeat>. The question is WHY someone with two braincells to rub together would do this.
It's just retarded.
Yeah, you can probably get a couple of hundred faction per hour, but at the pretty big risk of getting detected and having the game CD's turned into two $50 coasters. I mean, if even someone as sucky as I can make 2400 faction per hour in random arena, then anyone even half-way serious about PvP can probably make twice that, without risking getting banned.

And, well, if you suck that badly at Random Arena that you need a bot for it...you should just stop playing the game.

If nothing else before convinced me not to play with PUGs, this one does.

I was wondering why last time I tried to play random arena, I noticed an increase of "botlike" names...
Saerden
Whats worse, a botter, or a game thats can be botted?
Numa Pompilius
Any game with an interface can be botted.
The Son Of Morgoth

I find it incredibly disappointing that they found a way to make CA even worse.

CA is a good way to quickly test and tweak skill combinations.. especially if you may need to re-make the character several times.
If you go in with low expectations in CA you can have quite a bit of fun.. the randomness is very interesting even if you get a bot, its just one more lovley suprise
Its good to make dev's aware of theses bots, but really.. its not worth getting frustrated about, I mean.. cmon.. its Competition arena!... lol.
Scourgey
I bet a monk that uses life bond, blessed signet, mantra of inscriptions, signet of devotion would probably win quite a few matches in CA for his team

CA is the best PvP there is. I wish it weren't so.
Teams/Tombs/GvG all take forever before you actually fight anyone and you have to have guild mates or it even takes longer.
CA you go in and make a difference to your team every match. If you make it to Teams you get this good feeling of accomplishment.
Blah blah, I know everyone knocks CA but until they do something about groups it's still the best we have. Quick, fun matches with a sense of accomplishment at ten wins.
Not only that but it's not that hard to make 10k faction a night. The only faction farm that's better is teams and that's only if you have a guild group.

BOTS FTW!!
Pisses off the trade community. Now pissing off the Random Pvp Community. Whats next?
ArenaNet really needs to get off their tushies and stop "updating" (nerfing) the REAL players, and start taking measures to erradicate the damn bots. Cmon!! they punish us for actually playing the game, and bots run free w/o any detriments. im tired of this...

I met a bot in CA arena months ago. She was not a bad bot either: she did cast a preset of skills, including attunements and did use tab and shift to attack an enemy, casting her spells.
We noticed her unusual behaviour first when she kept walking though lava towards a target. We tried talking to her but got no response. Later, we studied her and noticed the repeating patters of her behaviour.
It got quite funny when we won our way with her to the team arena's (losing our 12th battle or so). When we were in the team arena hall, she was stuck. We had a laugh. I had taken screenshots and reported her (filling Anet in with every possible detail). However, a few weeks later, I ran into the same character doing the same bot thing, which was something of a let-down. Still, she was good for a bot.
