I'm a casual gamer. I belong to a guild that I really like, but there are times when i like to just go out and kill stuff by myself. I've played the game since release day, so I'm very familiar with all aspects.

I have a W/Mo who does very well soloing/farming, but I want to change it up a bit and get some variety in my solo game-playing.

I've recently started a N/W, but he is still in pre-searing. Before I get too far with him however, I want to know if the N/W has any farming potential. If not, what are some other builds that dont involve anything Monk-related?

any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Most of the soloing is done by monks and warriors for a decently good reason. They have the best ways to reduce, evade, and outright stop damage. The other classes have some, but none even come close to what a warrior or monk can do. A ranger is a good choice, if you don't mind spending more time doing a solo run. Alot of their power comes from guerilla tactics, not just running up into a mob and exploding all over them. I can't tell you exact builds, but poison arrow and pin down work wonderfully from what I hear.

Outside of that, a Necro with Aura of the Lich can do some farming, though its more difficulty than some other farming builds. As can mesmers, to an extent. They arn't as versitile as a warrior or monk, but they can hold their own against smaller groups. Elementalists are....odd. They have some protection against damage, but they mainly rely on the "Kill them before they kill me" approach to the farming and the are also challenging to play. Use the search function for solo builds, or to get ideas. My advice is to start with looking at the skills in each profession, and picking out ones that do a few things: stop/prevent/evade damage, do mass damage (to one monster, or to all monsters), and constant/big healing.

Necros's have alot of the damage prevention, just in different forms. They can slow down attackers, and even reduce the damage they can deal. Mesmers can get a big boost in their armor with Physical Resistance, or that one spell that alows them to evade attacks, that I can't think of at the moment. And ele's get Mistform, which is just amazing in its own right, and also Aura of Restoration.

For damage dealing, necro's and mesmers can use hexes to do a good deal of damage over time, and necro's can actually do some AoE damage like a smiting monk could, if they want to use Dark Aura. Mesmers mainly rely on degen from hexes, or hexes that do damage when a condition is met. Ele's, of course, have massive AoE in the form of Meteor Shower, Firestorm, etc.

As for healing, necro's have skills like Life Syphon, Life Transfer, or Blood Renewal. For mesmer's, there is Ether feast, and I think a few more that are really interesting to use. Arcane Echoing Ether Feast is pretty funny, in my opinion. As for ele's, Aura of Restoration works well for life gain, and I really can't think of many others outside of that.

That should give you a good basis to start on, and just look at the skills for each class. My personal favorite to farm with is a Necro/Mesmer combination. It's challenging, and its quite different than useing my warrior or monk to farm. I don't have any experience with a ranger though, and I'm sorry I can't give a good insight onto them. I just know they rely on alot of guerilla tactics to take out monsters.

I hope that helps, and I hope I didn't rant too much.
